Blue Man Group, the critically acclaimed international production, is holding a casting call for talented performers to portray Blue Men in its existing and upcoming shows and tours. All auditions will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, by invitation only. 

Patrons interested in auditioning should send headshots and resumes to with the subject line “LA appointments.” Blue Man Group will contact performers to schedule appointments and provide audition time and location. 

The casting call is part of an ongoing national search to find performers who have the rare combination of talents including non-verbal storytelling, humor, musicianship and charisma that the Blue Man exhibits. With ongoing productions in Chicago, New York, Boston, Las Vegas, Berlin and Tokyo, Blue Man Group offers gifted men and women the opportunity to join their established but continuously evolving organization. 

Criteria for tryouts include:   

  • Height between 5’10” and 6’2” tall (athletic build)
  • Excellent acting/physical theater/improvisation skills
  • Drumming skills are an advantage but a good sense of rhythm is necessary
  • Willingness to relocate

Union Village has retained several local design and consulting firms, preeminent healthcare consulting firm Hammes Company and leading architectural design firm HKS Architects to assist in the project’s rapid growth and development.

Hammes Company, the nation’s largest healthcare facility development firm, with a local office in Henderson, will serve as the overall project manager for Union Village, including site development, hospital program management, and medical office building development. 

“With Union Village, we have a rare opportunity to participate in a groundbreaking concept that integrates comprehensive health and wellness capabilities with retail, entertainment and cultural amenities,” remarked Hammes Company Regional Manager Bill Foulkes.

HKS Architects will serve as Union Village’s master plan architect, and architect for the acute care hospitals.  Operating out of their Las Vegas office, HKS Architects’ role includes addressing specific design parameters for various components of the project, such as building use and density, public amenities, pedestrian and bicycle trails, energy and waste strategies, on and off site utilities, streets and parking and landscape design.

Several other local design and consulting firms have been retained to assist Hammes Company and HKS Architects in their efforts.  The Henderson office of civil engineering consulting company Cardno/WRG has been brought on to review the existing site, prepare a survey, and develop civil engineering and utility reports for the planned development. 

The Las Vegas branch of the nationally recognized geotechnical firm Terracon has been retained to complete the environmental site assessment.  

Las Vegas consulting firm Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc will conduct both the traffic and parking studies for the proposed development.  This includes reviewing Union Village’s parking needs and master plan for traffic improvements between the project site and the City of Henderson.

“Kimley-Horn’s Las Vegas staff is both excited to work with such a world-class team on this project, and also to see the use of local firms,” said Ana Mendoza, business development manager with Kimley-Horn.

“Through the hiring of these local firms, the City of Henderson will already begin to see a positive economic impact and the creation of local jobs as a result of this project,” Foulkes adds.  “And we have just begun.”

Fireworks and Free Rally Towels on Tap for First Locos Home Game

The Las Vegas Locomotives (Locos) are ready to give fans a great home opener at Sam Boyd Stadium as they take on the Omaha Nighthawks Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.

Fans can look forward to a night full of great football and fun promotions before, during and after the game as they see the team in action for the first time during the 2011 United Football League (UFL) season.

Festivities will begin prior to kickoff with the unveiling of the 2010 UFL Championship banner.  The first 2,000 fans to arrive at Sam Boyd Stadium will receive free Locos rally towels.  Pregame fun will also include a Fan Fest starting at 3 p.m. with “Tailgating Olympics,” interactive football drills, bounce houses for the kids and inflatable obstacle courses.  The coin toss will be performed by a lucky ESPN 1100/98.9 Radio listener.

Halftime entertainment will be provided by the Locomotion dance team along with any youth cheerleaders who attended the dance team’s Oct. 2 cheer camp. The Locomotion held several cheer and dance camps throughout the summer, and final rehearsals for the halftime performance took place during the Oct. 2 camp.

Following the game Locos players, coaches and dance team members will be available on the field for autographs and pictures.  Finally, a post game fireworks show will put the cap on a great night of football and fun! 

The Locos return to Sam Boyd Stadium on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. to face the Sacramento Mountain Lions and on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. to take on the Virginia Destroyers.  Fans can expect more spectacular entertainment before, during and after kickoff at these games. Promotions for the remaining home games will be announced in the weeks leading up to each game.

Vegas 24 Seven Interviews Top 40 Singer/Songwriter Jared Lee

On Saturday September 17th Jared Lee opened for Train at the Beach at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The show was fantastic and everyone had a great time! Jared likes Las Vegas because the city is “alive”! After the show we had the pleasure to interview Jared. This interview was so easy because Jared was fun to talk to and he was really nice.

Jared said that the show at the Mandalay Bay Beach was an amazing great event for him. The crowd was really into the show and it was a great venue. He liked the beach and pool setting and felt like diving in at one time during the show. The people were having a great time, and its no wonder because two great acts like Jared and Train were performing. Jared has been to Las Vegas before for weekend getaways and trips with his friends. He has also performed here before at the The M Resort, New York New York Hotel Casino and the Cosmopolitan.

Born and raised in Boston Jared move to California about four years ago. At a young age he was influenced by performers like Brian McKnight, Sting, John Mayer and Boys to Men. He told us that he would practice the way they sang note for note in his room. Jared has played such famous clubs such at The Roxy and The Troubador. When playing in these venues he said he felt the presence of all the great performers that have played there over the years. We ask him what kinds of music he likes. He said he likes almost all kinds of music. He told us he wants to go into a mosh pit with us the next time he is in Las Vegas. When he has free time he likes to go to the beach, workout, golf, go hiking and other outdoor recreation in California.

His new CD called “Falling Through Holes” debuts Oct 4th on BMG Chrysalis Music. This CD was helmed by Multi-Platinum producer Mike K. Who has produced Nelly Furtado and Natasha Bedingfield. It includes his hit songs “Beautiful World” and It’s Over “Goodbye). These two songs were featured as background songs on American Idol. There will be a release performance and party at the Roxy in LA on October 11th. Hope we are invited! We asked him what the inspiration was for his song “Beautiful World”. He said this song was written in Nashville, he was going though a transitional period in his life and he wanted a uplifting, high spirited song to to help him though. We can’t wait to get a hold of the “Falling Through Holes” CD to listen to the rest of the songs!

Clear Channel Radio selected Jared as an “Artist To Watch – Pop” on US Top Forty Radio Websites in January 2011. “Its Over (Goodbye) debuted at #40 on the Adult Pop Chart in August and is getting played on Top Forty radio stations.

Hogwart’s resident redhead, Rupert Grint, made the trek all the way from London to Las Vegas to celebrate his 23rd birthday in style at Sugar Factory at Paris Las Vegas.

As soon as he stepped foot into Sugar Factory, the world-famous wizard was swarmed by fans eagerly trying to catch a glimpse of the “Harry Potter” star.

Grint enjoyed a savory dinner of turkey sliders, bruschetta and steak frites, accompanied by a mouthwatering Berry Bliss goblet. For dessert, the table indulged in an over-the-top red velvet birthday sundae complete with sparklers. All eyes were on the man best known as “Ron Weasley” as he made his way to the expansive Sugar Factory retail store and noshed on jelly beans, Runts and sour apple gummy candies, along with a creamy orange signature Sugar Factory Couture Pop.

Also spotted at Sugar Factory was music superstar, Busta Rhymes. Rhymes stopped by the sweet shop to stock-up on sour candies before heading over to Gallery nightclub.

Dos Caminos will ring in Mexican Independence Day early with a fiesta on Thursday, September 15. Special guest DJs Lema and Hem will man the Red Bull DJ booth providing the sounds for partygoers to celebrate “Viva la Independencia” and Corzo margaritas will keep the party going all night.

Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada will celebrate its one-year anniversary at its home in Summerlin on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The event is open to the public, and JCC of Southern Nevada will highlight all of its programs and activities by giving guests a “Taste of the JCC.”  Free activities for all ages, complimentary cake and live entertainment by America’s Got Talent finalist and Acrobatic Magician Seth Grabel are just some of the highlights of the one-year anniversary festivities. New Addition Joins July Arrival as Newest Residents of
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat

The newest addition to The Mirage’s family of bottlenose dolphins is a healthy male calf born Saturday, Aug. 20 to Huf n Puf, who was born at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat in March 2000. The birth of this calf marks the second time within seven weeks that a dolphin has given birth at the facility.

Duchess, matriarch of the dolphin family and Huf n Puf’s mother, gave birth to a male on July 3 at the Dolphin Habitat. The energetic calf named K2 can be seen playing with his new “pool mate.”

“We’re delighted to welcome a second healthy calf to our family and invite guests to view not one, but two calves as they learn about how our conservation efforts today will help preserve these beautiful animals in the wild for future generations to enjoy,” said David Blasko, director of Animal Care at The Mirage. “The Dolphin Habitat staff takes incredible pride in our continuing efforts to expand the bottlenose gene pool while teaching the world about these animals’ remarkable capabilities.”

Huf n Puf and her calf remain in the Birthing and Research pool which is open to public viewing during regular operational hours of the Dolphin Habitat. Alongside the new mother and calf are Duchess, K2 and Huf n Puf’s daughter, Bella, who was born Sept. 6, 2008. The calf’s father, Lightning, is located in an adjacent pool.

Dolphin calves remain very delicate throughout their entire first year of life and the Animal Care staff will continue to monitor their development as they bond with their mothers, nursing and testing their independence.

Plans for naming the new calf will be announced at a later date.

The Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage is accredited by the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), an international association dedicated to the highest standards of care for marine mammals and to their conservation in the wild through public education, scientific study and wildlife presentations.

Four male dolphins are on long-term loan to The Mirage as part of cooperative agreements with other AMMPA member facilities. The agreements, combined with the sensitivity and outstanding professional care by the Dolphin Habitat staff, make possible the ongoing success of the dolphin breeding program at The Mirage.

Research confirms that seeing living, breathing animals up close or interacting with them at AMMPA member facilities promotes a strong personal connection between the public and the animals. One of two independent research studies published in 2010 concludes that guests viewing dolphins show a demonstrated increase in conservation-related knowledge, attitudes and behavioral intentions immediately following their experience. In a follow-up interview three months later, guests reported that they were engaging in more conservation-related behavior than they did before their dolphin experience.

Children take special delight in visiting the dolphins and new calves. As part of a continuing arrangement with the Clark County School District, The Mirage welcomes thousands of young students each year to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat during school field trips, at no charge, to view the animals up close.
