ROGERS FOUNDATION

THE ROGERS FOUNDATION NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
FOR $300,000 IN ARTS AND EDUCATION GRANTS

Application Period Open January 18 – March 25, 2016

Southern Nevada’s premier champion of arts and education, The Rogers Foundation, is now accepting applications for $300,000 in new grants. The three grants – each for $100,000 – will be open for submissions until March 25. Applicants can apply directly via The Rogers Foundation’s website at www.therogers.foundation.

The Rogers Foundation designed each grant to uplift Clark County School District (CCSD) children in three distinct areas, naming them Gift of Imagination, Gift of Knowledge and Gift of Assurance. Local CCSD institutions may individually apply for the grants, however any non-CCSD applicants must partner with a CCSD school to be considered. Recipients will be announced at the end of May.

“We encourage schools, teachers, nonprofits and community groups in Southern Nevada to explore our grants and submit their most impactful ideas,” said Beverly Rogers, Chairman of the Board for The Rogers Foundation. “My late husband Jim Rogers had a vision of strengthening and empowering Southern Nevada through arts and education, and we are seeking applicants who share that same devotion.”

On Feb. 8, GrantWell – a UNLV-based administrator of The Rogers Foundation’s grants – will begin hosting online grant writing workshops, which applicants can utilize 24/7 at their own convenience. GrantWell will also conduct in-person seminars, with dates forthcoming.

In addition to the grants, The Rogers Foundation is currently accepting applications for college scholarships, available to local high school seniors. Those interested in scholarship opportunities are urged to apply as soon as possible to meet the Feb. 1 deadline. A total of 11 Rogers Achievers Scholaships will be given away, ranging from $5,000 to $100,000, and the money is valid toward educational costs at any college or university in the United States. Additionally, The Rogers Foundation is giving out 15 full ride scholarships to Kentucky Wesleyan College, an institution many of Jim Rogers’ family members attended which also features one of the top arts programs in the area.

Terry Fator Launches ‘The Clinton Detweiler Scholarship presented by Terry Fator and Taylor Makakoa’

Singer, Comedian and Celebrity Impressionist Gives Back to the Ventriloquist Community; Awards Three Prize Packages to Vent Haven Convention in Cincinnati

The Mirage Hotel & Casino headliner Terry Fator would like to pay it forward to fellow ventriloquist enthusiasts with the announcement of “The Clinton Detweiler Scholarship” presented by he and his wife, Taylor Makakoa.

“Taylor and I created this scholarship to afford opportunities to those who otherwise may not have them,” said Fator. “I know firsthand the countless hours and endless effort that goes into ventriloquism and puppeteering. I want to reward those performers for their dedication and passion to their craft.”

Three Clinton Detweiler Scholarship packages will be awarded—two for performers 17 years of age and under and one going to a performer 18 years of age and up. Included in the scholarship packages is entry to the 2013 Vent Haven Convention (provided by Vent Haven) which takes place July 17 – 20 at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott. The scholarship package also includes:

– $2,000 in trip expenses for winner and a guest/chaperone, provided by Terry Fator and Taylor Makakoa.

– A $350 credit towards an Axtell Expressions puppet provided by Steve Axtell.

– Enrollment fees for nine ventriloquism courses at www.learn-ventriloquism.com provided by Tom Crowl.

To qualify for a Clinton Detweiler Scholarship, contestants must submit a two-minute video showcasing their ventriloquist talents to www.terryfator.com/scholarship. Submissions are due Friday, May 31. A panel of judges will select 10 finalists and announce the three scholarship winners Monday, June 10.

The scholarship’s namesake is dedicated to the late Clinton Detweiler, the former President of the North American Association of Ventriloquists. Detweiler was a major influence in the ventriloquist community and served as friend and mentor to many, including Fator.

Fator currently performs in Terry Fator: The Voice of Entertainment at The Mirage Monday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Terry Fator Box Office, online at Mirage Entertainment and www.terryfator.com and by phone at 702-792-7777 or 800-963-9634.

EPICUREAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CONTINUES CLOTHING AND LAPTOP DRIVE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH AUGUST

Epicurean Charitable Foundation Las Vegas (ECFLV) is continuing to accept donations of new and gently used laptops and new professional business attire for students the entire month of August before the 2011 fall semester begins.

While ECFLV offers financial assistance through scholarships, many of these students do not have the resources to purchase laptops and other necessities, such as appropriate attire for professional networking functions.

“The majority of students within our scholarship program do not have their own computer, or even professional attire to wear to a job interview,” said Kevin Dimond, president of the Epicurean Charitable Foundation. “While our program provides funding for tuition, books and fees; there is still much more that our students need to be successful. Plus, this is an opportunity for our community to come together to help benefit the education of these bright, young students.

Sting Systems, a local leading provider of advanced security and monitoring systems, is donating services to repair and uncover any operating system issues, remove viruses and spyware, and optimize all student laptops for improved performance.

ECFLV will collect laptops and new professional business attire donations for the month of July at the following locations in the Las Vegas Valley. Any remaining clothing and laptops will be re-donated to other children’s and educational foundations by the Epicurean Charitable Foundation.
