Event Recap: Libertine Social Celebrates Its
Grand Opening at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

The much anticipated debut of Chef Shawn McClain’s Libertine Social kicked off with a eclectic blow-out party at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino that saw a dress made out of champagne glasses, live ice carvings and Swizzle stations. Last night, Thursday, August 25, guests indulged in the opportunity to taste Libertine Social’s inventive new-age American bar food and artistic cocktails.

Chef Shawn McClain and Modern Mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim welcomed Las Vegas VIPs and culinary influencers with Libertine Social’s upbeat and adventurous energy. Guests were treated to an array of Libertine Social’s small plates, including Parmesan Churros, chilled king crab, flame-grilled sausages and Ahi Tuna Cones. Abou-Ganim’s reinvented classic cocktails also were served, including the Sunsplash, Aperol Spritz and Hemmingway Daiquiri.

Abou-Ganim showcased the diversity of his multi-faceted cocktail program with different stations throughout the space. Libertine Social’s outdoor patio offered a variety of Swizzles, the legendary Caribbean libations; and the Main Bar served an assortment of innovative draft and bottled cocktails. The Arcade Bar – Abou-Ganim’s bar-within-a-bar space celebrating forgotten classics – saw Abou-Ganim shaking a number of his favorites, such as the barrel-aged Boulevardier.

For Libertine Social, Principle Interior Designer Alessandro Munge created a space that celebrates the daring spirit of Americans with a story to tell whether the night-before was spent at a formal cocktail party, sneaking onto a rooftop terrace, or just hanging out at the go-to neighborhood bar. The Voyeur Lounge greets guests with eclectic furniture and a retro jukebox, while the social dining room is filled with a collection of personal photos to inspire guests of past journeys and those yet to come.

During the party, the main dining room transformed into a dance floor led by energetic DJ Sarah Landau pairing beats with a live drummer.

McClain’s belief that life’s greatest moments are those shared with friends resonated with the party guests who played “Dare From the Hare,” Libertine Social’s own bold card game encouraging guests to complete interactive dares.

In front of Libertine Social, guests snapped pictures from vintage Polaroid cameras with the backdrop of Alexis Diaz’ spectacular mural on Mandalay Bay’s iconic body wall. On their way out of the party, guests were treated to McClain’s signature Margarita Donut dessert from Libertine To-Go.

Libertine Social is now open at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Monday through Sunday from 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.

BEVERAGE BLOWOUT BURSTS ON THE SCENE
WITH THE MODERN MIXOLOGIST TONY ABOU-GANIM
An Experiential Event Honoring the Beverage Industry, Craft Mixology and Celebrity Pioneer, Tony Abou-Ganim

Celebrate the success of the Las Vegas beverage scene as Vegas rolls out the red carpet with the inaugural 2012 Beverage Blowout honoring The Modern MixologistTony Abou-Ganim. On Monday, October 8, industry guests will gather at the newly renovated Plaza Hotel & Casino for an experiential event featuring educational seminars, a pool party, downtown pub crawl and a gala dinner to honor Abou-Ganim, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Helen David Bartender Relief Fund.

To kick off the daylong event, guests are able to enroll in a variety of seminars from 9am to 11am. Featuring special guests such as National President of the United States Bartenders’ Guild Livio Lauro and world renowned mixologist Armando Rosario ($30 per person), as well as Abou-Ganim ($50 per person and includes copy of The Modern Mixologist), guests will be taken through an engaging journey along the byroads of mixology.

Immediately following, guests will hob knob with the who’s who of Vegas’s acclaimed beverage scene, lunching and partying at the Plaza Rooftop Pool for the Cointreau Pool Party ($10 entry with advance registration, $20 entry at the door) until 2pm. The party will feature a special DJ performance by Fremont Street’s Muse Le Deux, spinning the hottest club, house, top 40 and hip hop hits. Complimentary cocktails will be flowing throughout the event, showcasing the diverse creations of the best of the spirits’ world, with all of the fun captured in photos by Cashman Photo Enterprises. After the pool soiree, the party will continue from 2pm-5pm with an up-close-and-personal pub crawl with Abou-Ganim ($30 per person) featuring obscure and intricate cocktails from downtown’s swankiest craft cocktail specialists.

To finish off the evening, guests will dine at the Beverage Industry Appreciation Awards Gala ($150 per person) at Meet Las Vegas, honoring the best of the Las Vegas cocktail industry. Stay for the laughter as surprise guests roast Tony Abou-Ganim and award him with his first ever Lifetime Achievement Award.
