During the 1950s, doo-wop, R&B, and soul became the soundtrack of the neighborhoods. This music was played on radio stations and performed live on stages, and today remains a favorite among all generations.
The Drifters set musical trends singing doo-wop, R&B, and soul with 13 chart hits, most of which are legendary recordings, especially “Save The Last Dance For Me” and “Under the Boardwalk” (1964).
Cornell Gunter sang tenor with the group, and The Cornell Gunter Coasters were the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Impressive hit records include “Charlie Brown,” “Poison Ivy,” “Searchin,” and their biggest No. 1 hit, on the charts for seven weeks, “Yakety Yak.” The group brings the magic to the stage, singing their enduring hits.
The Platters are considered one of the most successful groups to come out of the 1950s. Their list of hits includes “Only You,” “(You’ve Got) The Magic Touch,” “My Prayer,” “Twilight Time,” “Harbor Lights,” “To Each His Own,” “If I Didn’t Care,” and Jerome Kern’s “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” Their music has been heard in movies and television shows as timeless classics.
Whether you remember the music from the first time it was played on the radio or stream it on a music app, their songs will live forever. While members in the three groups have evolved, the Drifters, the Cornell Gunter Coasters, and the Platters combine veterans with younger performers. Nearly half of the members from the three groups date back to having performed with original members on the original recordings.
