The Smith Center for the Performing Arts Celebrates

10,000th Broadway Las Vegas Season Subscriber

Significant Milestone Surpassed Three Months Prior to Opening

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts reached an exciting milestone today as the 10,000th Broadway Las Vegas season subscription package was purchased on December 16, 2011 by Las Vegas resident Gretta Woodington. The Smith Center aimed to have 50 percent of all available seats purchased by season ticket subscribers by the time the season begins in March, which is the general industry standard. As of today, The Smith Center has exceeded that goal and sold 63 percent of all available tickets, with three months left before the performing arts center is scheduled to open its doors.

“We are extremely pleased at our community’s response to the inaugural Broadway Las Vegas series,” says Myron Martin, president and CEO of The Smith Center. “In a time of economic uncertainty in Southern Nevada, this achievement demonstrates that The Smith Center is fulfilling a strong need for world-class performing arts in Las Vegas.”

Woodington purchased her tickets as a surprise Christmas gift to her mother. Earlier this morning, Woodington received an unexpected call from Martin personally thanking her for her purchase and commitment not only to The Smith Center, but also to the arts in Southern Nevada.

“Wow,” said Woodington on the call. “I’ll have to tell my mother about her Christmas gift now, this is too exciting.”

Woodington plans to attend the Broadway performances along with her mother when the season kicks off with THE COLOR PURPLE in early April 2012.

The inaugural Broadway Las Vegas series will feature the best and brightest of Broadway, bringing full-length versions of THE COLOR PURPLE, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s MARY POPPINS, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and MEMPHIS to the stage in Las Vegas. Season ticket packages and individual tickets on are on-sale now for all titles. In addition, tickets are available for the best in music, dance and theater from around the world, including celebrated musicians the The Cleveland Orchestra and Yo-Yo Ma, dance masters the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and much more.
