Two recent staff promotions in UNLV Athletics’ Compliance Department were announced on Thursday.

Stefany Valentino, who has served as the Rebels’ Director of Compliance since 2020, has been elevated to Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance, and Samuel Hersh, who has been Assistant Director of Compliance since 2020, is now the Associate Director of Compliance.

Valentino, who is a former UNLV softball student-athlete, will continue to serve as a compliance liaison for specific sports, manage financial aid and scholarships, and contribute as a member of the athletics department’s senior staff. She will also now have a major role in the day-to-day operations of the compliance department.

“Stefany is a consummate professional and a rising star in the compliance industry,” said Eric Nepomuceno, UNLV Deputy Athletics Director, Chief Operating Officer. “She is smart, selfless, and genuinely cares about the student-athlete experience, having gone through it herself. We are lucky to have Stef on the Rebel team.”

Valentino began working in the compliance department at UNLV in 2014 as a member of the fifth-year student works program and in 2016 became a graduate assistant. She was hired full-time in 2017.

“It is a privilege to continue to serve the athletics department that afforded me the opportunity to play collegiately and earn a degree,” Valentino said. “I am grateful for the leadership and guidance that Erick Harper and Eric Nepomuceno provide to our department and could not be more excited about the future of UNLV Athletics.”

Hersh, a former baseball student-athlete at Newman University, will continue to assist in the operations of UNLV’s NCAA compliance program, serving as the liaison for men’s and women’s soccer, and baseball. He will now also have a major role in the department’s name, image and likeness program “The Vegas Effect,” and will also oversee compliance operations for the men’s golf program.

“Sam has a work ethic that is second to none,” Nepomuceno said. “He is a great professional and even better person. I look forward to continuing to see Sam grow as a compliance professional here at UNLV.”

Hersh began working in the compliance department at UNLV as a graduate assistant before being hired full-time in 2020.

“I am thrilled and honored to call UNLV and Las Vegas home,” Hersh said. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that Erick Harper and Eric Nepomuceno have afforded me and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the student-athlete experience and success of our athletics programs.”
