JAMES HAMPSHIRE TO JOIN UNLV MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM
7-foot-1-inch center from Pacific added to 2021-22 Runnin’ Rebel roster

The UNLV men’s basketball program has received a signed commitment from James Hampshire to join the Runnin’ Rebels for the 2021-22 season, head coach Kevin Kruger announced Friday.
Hampshire, who is originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, is transferring to UNLV from the University of the Pacific as a graduate transfer. He will be immediately eligible to play at UNLV and is expected to have two years of eligibility remaining.
“We are thrilled that James is joining the Runnin’ Rebel program,” Kruger said. “He is an excellent athlete with great size and we are excited about his shot-blocking ability and the rim protection that he offers.”
The 7-foot-1-inch, 240-pound center played two seasons at Pacific and prior to that played at Casper College in Wyoming.
As a junior at Pacific in 2019-20, he led the team in blocked shots and was second in rebounding. He appeared in 31 games and made 11 starts, tallying 43 blocks (second in the West Coast Conference with 1.39 bpg) and 136 rebounds (15th in WCC with 1.5 orpg). He shot 67.1% from the field (49 of 73), while averaging just over 15 minutes per game. As a senior, he played 11 games and made 66.7% of his shots.
At Casper College he shot 64 percent from the field and ranked 14th in the country with 2.3 bpg (NJCAA Division I).
Hampshire joins Josh Baker from Hutchinson Community College, Royce Hamm Jr., from Texas, Victor Iwaukor from Oklahoma, Jordan McCabe from West Virginia, David Muoka from Lamar, Michael Nuga from Kent State, Justin Webster from Hawaii and Donovan Williams, also from Texas, as incoming transfers to the UNLV men’s basketball program.
