The No. 25 UNLV men’s golf team shot an opening-round 18-over-par 298 on Friday and is in 13th place at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, which is being played at Olympia Fields Country Club (par 70, 7,353 yards).

The tough season-opening tournament features 12 of the nation’s top 32-ranked teams (by Golfweek) at the course that has been home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has also hosted two U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.

Host and No. 2 Illinois is the only team under par and leads the standings at 6-under 274, while No. 27 Texas A&M is second at even-par 280. No. 4 Oklahoma State is third at 7-over 287, No. 32 Purdue is fourth at 11-over 291 and No. 28 Baylor rounds out the top five at 13-over 293. The Rebels are just four shots back of sixth place. There are a total of 15 teams competing.

Individually, Texas A&M’s Cameron Champ and Illinois’ Bryan Baumgarten are both tied for first at 5-under 65, two shots ahead of Arizona State’s Ki Taek Lee, who is in third place at 3-under 67.

UNLV was led by sophomore Harry Hall’s 1-over 71. He is in a four-way tie for 12th place. Junior John Oda and freshman Yash Majmudar are both tied for 40th at 5-over 75, while juniors Shintaro Ban and Ben Davis are both tied for 60th at 7-over 77. There are a total of 78 players competing.
