UNLV’S MIGUEL DUENAS JR. NAMED WAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR RECORD THIRD TIME

Rebel sophomore is in the top 10 in the nation in GAA, save percentage and shutouts

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Miguel Duenas Jr. became the second Rebel to earn WAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors three times in the same season, as he picked up Defensive Player of the Week honor Monday morning after posting his third consecutive shutout. He joins Danny Musovski (2017) as the only players to earn WAC weekly honors three times in a season, and the first defensive player to do so.

 

The North Las Vegas was recognized after recording four saves for his fifth shutout of the on March 31 in a 2-0 victory on the road over Dixie State. He has now gone the entire month of March without allowing a goal, owning a shutout streak of over 400 minutes dating back to Feb. 27.

 

NCAA RANKINGS: Duenas continued his climb among the leaders in NCAA Men’s Soccer, as he ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.958), third in goals against average (.151) and is tied for ninth in total shutouts (five). He is just one of five goalies in all of men’s college soccer to have allowed just one goal.Duenas, who made his collegiate debut earlier this season, has recorded five shutouts in just six career appearances, and has a 4-0-2 record in those six games.

 

NEXT TIME OUT: UNLV has two key games remaining in the regular season, as the Rebels take on fourth place San Jose State Monday night at 7 pm on the road, before finishing the regular season Saturday night against Grand Canyon in a 7 pm match at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
