UNLV volleyball featured a duo on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday morning, Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos and Chloe Thomas each picking up the award for the 2023 season.
Arretche-Ramos collects her second Academic All-District honor for the second-straight season, the senior outside hitter currently studying Kinesiological Sciences at UNLV. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native appeared in all 32 matches for the Rebels this past season and 121 sets, recording 2.66 kills per set with 359.5 points overall in 2023. She posted 135 kills for the Scarlet & Gray in their final 11 matches of the season, recording double-digit marks in nine of those previously-mentioned 11 games. Her highest mark was noted in the four-set home match against Fresno State, picking up 17 kills to lead the team.
Thomas also marked her second-straight CSC Academic All-District honor in the latest award, majoring in Anthropology with a Theater Arts minor. The Allen, Texas, native led the team in sets played over the course of the season with 122, playing in every set the Rebels faced off in. Thomas totaled a .229 season hitting percentage off of 225 kills in 2023, also boosting the defensive side with 67 total blocks over the course of the season. Thomas’ high night came in the Rebels’ 3-1 win over Air Force, hitting 13 kills on 25 attempts with four block assists in the four-set match.
The 2023 Academic All-District Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom across four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.5 GPA and compete in 90 percent of the institution’s contests or start in at least 66 percent of those.
