UNLV LADY REBELS HOST SEASON TIP-OFF EVENT ON OCTOBER 22
Season preview event will take place in the Mendenhall Center at UNLV
Fans will get their first chance to see the 2016-17 UNLV women’s basketball team on Saturday, Oct. 22, as the Lady Rebels will be hosting their “Season Tip-Off” fan event that is free to the public at the Mendenhall Center. Doors will open at 9:45 am, with the event set to begin at 10 am.
The annual event, which was called “Open House” last season, gives Lady Rebel fans a chance to see this year’s squad in action. The morning will feature a scrimmage between the team, shooting contests, a Q&A with the players and UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier, and more. At the conclusion of the event, fans will have the chance to take pictures and get autographs from the players and coaches.
“Season Tip-Off is a great chance to get a sneak peak at the Lady Rebels,” said Olivier. “We have a number of experienced players coming back to the team and I think we will show off an exciting style of play this season. This season preview is an event we always look forward to, and its a great chance for the community to come out and connect with our players.”
The Lady Rebels bring back eight players from last year’s squad, including a Mountain West-best three players that averaged double-figures in scoring: junior guards Dakota Gonzalez, Brooke Johnson and Nikki Wheatley. Another key returnee is Dakota’s twin sister Dylan, the top scorer off the bench last year for the team. The event will also give fans their first look at four newcomers to this year’s squad, transfers Katie Powell, Tiara Tucker, Kennedy Wharton, along with freshman Rodjanae Wade.
UNLV opens the season in the Thomas & Mack Center for the fourth straight year, on Nov. 11 against Concordia (Calif.). That starts a month of home games for the Lady Rebels in the month of November, which includes games against Houston (Nov. 15), USC (Nov. 18) and the Lady Rebel Round-Up on Thanksgiving weekend with Power 5 schools Ole Miss and Wisconsin. Another early highlight of the 2016-17 slate is the Play4Kay Shootout at T-Mobile Arena on Dec. 19-21, an eight-team, three-day tournament that seems UNLV open the event against Oregon State on Dec. 19 at 8 pm. The Lady Rebels will hold their Mountain West season opener on Dec. 29 against Colorado State in Las Vegas in the Cox Pavilion.
