Knowing this, in 2016, Redken launched our beloved pH-Bonder collection to maintain the hair’s integrity during a coloring service. Now, in 2017, we’ve expanded the collection to include a 3-step, post-salon treatment called the Redken Color Extend Bonder Kit (launching October 2017) to help repair the hair fibers for two weeks after a coloring treatment, when hair is most vulnerable. With the new Redken Color Extend Bonder collection, hair regains full strength and consumers can then go back to their regular Redken haircare routine based on their hair needs (Redken Color Extend Magnetics is great for color protection, Redken Extreme for damage, Redken All Soft for softness, etc.)
But why two weeks after a coloring treatment? Your hair is in its most vulnerable state during the 2 weeks after a color service. Inside the hair fiber, bonds are fragile and chemical residue remains. Outside the fiber, the lipid layer is worn away and the cuticle is slightly lifted. The pH Bonder in-salon treatment protects the inner hair fiber during a color service while our NEW Redken Color Extend Bonder Kit continues to protect the inner hair fiber while ALSO repairing the outer lipid layer during the two weeks following a coloring appointment.
The Redken Color Extend Bonder Kit is a three-step process, including a Pre-Shampoo Treatment, Shampoo, and Conditioner, used 3 times a week for two weeks for professional-grade protection. (SRP: $30)
- STEP ONE: In the shower, apply Redken Color Extend Bonder Pre-Shampoo Treatment, which contains Maleic Acid which targets and chelates mineral deposits left after color services and helps maintain hair’s natural pH level, to damp hair from roots to tips. Leave on hair for 5 minutes. Rinse.
- STEP TWO: Redken Color Extend Bonder Shampoo and STEP THREE: Redken Color Extend Bonder Conditioner (regular shampoo / conditioner usage) contains Citric Acid and Taurine which reconnects and strengthen weak bonds while restoring the lipid layer for smoothness and shine and helping to protect the cuticle to maintain color vibrancy.

WHAT IS THE RESULT? While this level of strengthening is not completely visible to the eye (as it is happening on the weak bonds inside the hair fiber), improvements to the quality of hair are seen in visible sleekness, shine, bounce/shape when styled and overall smoothness/less flyaways. These results are especially impressive on blondes with high lift who often feel that their hair is dull/limp after being processed.
