The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the 2015 National League Champion New York Mets, will open a brief four-game homestand on Friday, July 22 against intrastate rival the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, at Cashman Field.  All four games of the series from Friday-Monday, July 22-25 will begin at 7:05 p.m.

 

The 51s, under fourth-year manager Wally Backman, are currently on an eight-game Midwest road trip (3-3 record: 3-1 vs. Iowa; 0-2 vs. Omaha) that will conclude on Thursday evening against the Omaha Storm Chasers, Triple-A affiliate of the 2015 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals.

 

Las Vegas, 49-46 record (.516), is in second place in the Pacific Conference Southern Division. First-place El Paso (56-40, .583, best record in PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, leads Las Vegas by 6 ½ games.

 

The 51s organization have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada.

 

2016 ATTENDANCE: In 44 dates, Las Vegas’ total is 219,054 for an average of 4,979.  The season-high “home crowd” was an overflow sellout of 11,726 vs. Tacoma on April 28 for Fireworks/Star Wars Night. Las Vegas recorded its second sellout of the season vs. El Paso on May 13 with an overflow crowd of 11,449 on Fireworks/Hometown Heroes Night and then the third sellout was on the 4th of July vs. Salt Lake (10,143).  The Las Vegas franchise has reached the 300,000 plateau in “home” attendance in all 33 seasons (1983-2015). The all-time attendance total now stands at 11,196,783. The Las Vegas franchise welcomed the 11-millionth fan (Brian Johnson) during the opening homestand on April 14 vs. Sacramento.

 

            The 8 News Now Viva Las Vegas Fireworks (post-game show),” presented by The Orleans & Gold Coast will be featured in the series opener vs. the Aces on Friday, July 22.

 

Game two of the series on Saturday, July 23 vs. the Aces will feature 51s Socks Night, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates (open at 6 p.m.)

SILVER STATE DIAMOND CHALLENGE: In 2009, Las Vegas and Reno developed the Silver State Diamond Challenge and the “Silver Plate Trophy” to add to the excitement to the rivalry for the two PCL teams that represent the state of Nevada…Reno defeated Las Vegas, 3-games-to-1, in the 2015 PCL Conference Championship Series.

The 2016 campaign will mark the eighth season of the S.S.D.C.

2016: The 16-game season series is tied 6-6

 

Reno’s roster features two of the top 10 prospects in the Diamondbacks organization, according to Baseball America: Right-handed pitcher Braden Shipley (No. 3) and INF/OF Peter O’Brien (No. 10).

 

The 51s will broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on NBC Sports Radio AM 920 ‘THE GAME’, which will carry live all 144 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) at www.LV51.comRuss Langer, the 10-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), is in his 17th season behind the microphone calling 51s baseball. He also called the action for the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network (July 13).

 

All 51s games (home & away) will also be broadcast on MiLB.TV via LV51.com.

 

Following the homestand, the 51s will embark on a brief five-game (four-day) road trip to Northern California against the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, from Tuesday-Friday, July 26-29. The two teams will play a double-header on Thursday, July 28 from the Saturday, April 8 rainout at Cashman Field.

 

Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the America First Credit Union Box Office at Cashman Field. The box office is open Monday-Friday (non-game days) from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com). The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $11.00 (reserved, $12.00-Day of Game); $14.00 (plaza, $15.00-Day of Game) and $16.00 (field, $17.00-Day of Game) & the blue dugout seats at $30.00.  The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza, field and reserved seats throughout the season except for the “Fireworks Extravaganza” which was held on Monday, July 4.
