MGM Resorts Art & Culture presents a new artwork by Brooklyn-based artist Patrick Vale at Eataly Las Vegas at Park MGM. By evoking Italy’s rich history, Vale’s piece, titled Some Drawings I Made Whilst Waiting For The Agnolotti, showcases various regions as well as their exceptional food and culinary traditions.

The work provides a visual application of Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti’s philosophy: to enjoy sustainable, authentic cuisine, shop the best products available and feel empowered to learn about Italian culture. To create the artwork, Vale drew inspiration from the Eataly team’s mantra: “Food Unites All.” He also spent time in both Eataly New York and Eataly Las Vegas studying and sketching the food, chefs and atmosphere to encompass the concept in his artwork.

Vale used his exceptional talent and advanced technology to create this incredibly detailed digital painting for Eataly and Park MGM. An accomplished draftsman known for his representations of urban landscapes, Vale has worked closely with Apple over the last five years, helping to launch the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and was also recently featured in the company’s marketing campaigns and at several keynote presentations. Vale also has a custom commissioned design at Eataly in Flatiron Plaza, the first ever-kiosk across from its Manhattan flagship store that highlights two Eataly staples – Pizza al Padellino and artisanal gelato.

“This piece is conceptually simple,” said Vale. “I have married together views of Italy with observational studies of fresh food produce and the traditional process of making pasta. Hopefully the viewer will get a sense of the beauty and history of the country, as well as the Italian people’s passion for the food and produce alongside the traditions that goes into making many of the dishes. I wanted to give an equal footing to all the different elements in the piece, the places, the food and the tools of pasta making so I depicted all to the same level of detail and played with the scale.”

The finished piece boasts a width of nearly 79 feet and a height of 27 feet, showcasing elements woven together, rooted in graphical representations of Italian regions and typography inspired by 1930s travel posters. The painting is located above Eataly’s interior entrance inside Park MGM.
