MGM Resorts International Teams Up with Nevada Public Radio to Provide Nearly 63,000 Meals to Three Square Food Bank
A collaboration between Three Square Food Bank, MGM Resorts International (MGM Resorts) and Nevada Public Radio resulted in 62,956 meals donated to Southern Nevadans struggling with hunger.
According to Feeding America, in a typical year, one in eight Nevadans is affected by hunger, but this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity has significantly increased across Southern Nevada. Currently, one in five people don’t know where their next meal is coming from and one in three children is now living in a food insecure household.
During Nevada Public Radio’s 2020 Fall Fund Drive, members had the option to donate meals to Three Square in lieu of receiving traditional thank you gifts when they made their pledge of support, with MGM Resorts wholly covering the value of the nearly 63,000 meals. Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank, providing food assistance to the residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark counties.
“We are honored, once again, to partner with Nevada Public Radio and Three Square to be part of this significant campaign and community effort to help combat food insecurity in the Southern Nevada community,” said Jyoti Chopra, Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer, MGM Resorts International. “This has been a challenging year for the people of Southern Nevada and we have seen the devastation that the COVID-19 pandemic has had here in our community. It is more important than ever to unite through public-private partnerships to deliver urgent assistance to those in need in our community.”
“We are so incredibly proud of our annual Fall partnership with Three Square Food Bank and the nearly 550,000 meals our members have designated since 2014,” said Jerry Nadal, President and CEO, Nevada Public Radio. “Without Three Square, and our partners at MGM Resorts International, the hundreds of thousands facing food insecurity in Southern Nevada – 1 in 3 of which are children – would have little hope.”
“Our city has been hit hard by the pandemic, and more and more of our neighbors are struggling to put food on the table,” said Brian Burton, President and CEO of Three Square. “Thanks to partners like MGM Resorts and Nevada Public Radio, we’re able to provide nutritious food to the nearly 440,000 people in our community who are food insecure.”

About Three Square Food Bank
Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization, serving Las Vegas and all of Clark, Lincoln, Esmeralda and Nye counties. Since opening in 2007, Three Square has provided more than 385 million pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of people in need and earned a reputation as one of the most efficient and effective food banks in the country. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Three Square immediately implemented a disaster response plan to answer sudden school and business closures, drastic declines in retail food donations, social distancing limitations on volunteer efforts, reduced on-site staff support, and the need for low-contact food distributions. Within days, Three Square had increased food distribution by 250,000 meals a week and increased the capacity of its Call Center to refer Southern Nevadans to available food resources, social services, and unemployment benefits. While Three Square’s COVID-19 relief efforts have superseded regular programs and operations for the foreseeable future, it is more committed than ever to its mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Three Square is a member of the Feeding America network of food banks.
