During the month of September, Lawry’s The Prime Rib Las Vegas will team up with Three Square Food Bank to benefit their mission to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community.

Beginning Sept. 1, for each $10 donation to Three Square, up to $50, VIP Rewards guests will receive a $25 bonus reward on their loyalty account to use the next time they dine at any of Lawry’s restaurants. Non-loyalty members will receive $25 rewards should they donate a minimum of $10 and sign up for the VIP Rewards program. For the first time, guests will also be able to donate to Three Square Food Bank when placing take-out orders through lawryslasvegas.com.

“We are proud to partner with Three Square throughout the month of September and educate our guests on the integral role this organization plays in the Las Vegas community,” said Lawry’s The Prime Rib Las Vegas Sales & Marketing Manager Michelle Rizzo. “Due to how COVID-19 has affected our community, it’s more important than ever to help during this extremely difficult time. We encourage our guests to stop by our restaurant, enjoy some delicious food and donate to a great cause.”

Three Square estimates more than 447,000 Southern Nevadans, including approximately 171,000 children, will experience food insecurity this year. With unemployment at an all-time high and children not returning to classrooms due to the Coronavirus, the child food insecurity rate has increased from 19.5% up to 33.4%, leaving one in three children in Southern Nevada living in a food-insecure household.

“As the demand for food assistance continues to rise, community support is essential, so we’re grateful to Lawry’s The Prime Rib Las Vegas for partnering with us and helping to provide as many meals as possible for those in need,” said Three Square President and CEO Brian Burton.

About Three Square Food Bank

Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization, serving Las Vegas and all of Clark, Lincoln, Esmeralda, and Nye counties. Since opening in 2007, Three Square has provided more than 385 million pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of people in need and earned a reputation as one of the most efficient and effective food banks in the country. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Three Square immediately implemented a disaster response plan to answer sudden school and business closures, drastic declines in retail food donations, social distancing limitations on volunteer efforts, reduced on-site staff support, and the need for low-contact food distributions. Within days, Three Square had increased food distribution by 250,000 meals a week and increased the capacity of its Call Center to refer Southern Nevadans to available food resources, social services, and unemployment benefits. While Three Square’s COVID-19 relief efforts have superseded regular programs and operations for the foreseeable future, it is more committed than ever to its mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Three Square Food Bank to Continue Fight Against Food Insecurity During Hunger Action Month

Three Square Food Bank to Continue Fight Against Food Insecurity During Hunger Action Month

With the grand opening of its new East Campus facility, the launch of a virtual fundraiser and volunteer opportunities at its food distribution sites, Three Square Food Bank continues to raise awareness of Southern Nevada’s record-high levels of food insecurity during Hunger Action Month this September.

The 2020 Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study revealed a significant increase in food insecurity across Southern Nevada. In the wake of COVID-19, 447,820 Southern Nevadans are struggling with hunger, including 171,510 children.

“Hunger Action Month is a time when people all over the country stand together with Feeding America and its nationwide network of food banks to raise awareness about the hunger crisis facing our communities,” said Brian Burton, president and CEO of Three Square. “Traditionally we would encourage the community to support our ‘Fill the Plate’ food and fund drive during this time of year. Finding ourselves in a new reality as our community faces the health and economic fallout of COVID-19, we need your help now more than ever to help our neighbors in need.”

Three Square’s new East Campus facility is scheduled to officially open on Hunger Action Day, Sept. 10. The 31,000-square-foot facility will allow Three Square to bolster services with an expanded call center, capacity to serve additional seniors and more. Construction of the facility is supported by key donors as well as federal funding from the New Markets Tax Credit Program (NMTC) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Additional details will be released soon.

In addition, Southern Nevada residents can support Three Square during Hunger Action Month with the following:

Virtual Fundraiser
Throughout the month of September, those in a position to donate can contribute to Three Square’s Hunger Action Month virtual fundraiser – all proceeds benefit the nonprofit’s efforts to combat food insecurity. Unique donation options will be available, such as “take home meals for kids” or “health conscious foods for seniors,” with an equivalent dollar amount given. For every one dollar donated, Three Square can provide three wholesome meals. The Hunger Action Month virtual fundraising site, www.threesquare.org/ham, launches Sept. 1.

Volunteer Opportunities at Food Distribution Sites
Three Square continues to distribute food to residents in need at sites across the valley and is looking for helping hands. Community members interesting in volunteering are encouraged to call 702-644-3663 or visit www.threesquare.org/how-to-help/volunteer for more information.

During September and throughout the year, local businesses, faith-based organizations and other groups give back by partnering with Three Square to host events and offer unique promotions that benefit the nonprofit. A full list of events happening during Hunger Action Month and beyond is available at www.threesquare.org/how-to-help/events.

Stay tuned in to Three Square’s FacebookInstagram and Twitter pages throughout September for the latest news and events and the debut of “5 Questions with Chef,” a video series on the issue of hunger featuring the valley’s most esteemed chefs and F&B professionals.

MGM Resorts International and Nevada Public Radio Members Team Up to Provide Nearly 105,000 Meals to Three Square Food Bank

A collaboration between Three Square Food Bank, MGM Resorts International (MGM Resorts) and Nevada Public Radio results in 104,305 meals donated to people in Southern Nevada who are food insecure. According to Feeding America, currently one in eight Nevadans is affected by hunger.

During Nevada Public Radio’s 2019 fall membership campaign, new and renewing members had an option to donate meals to Three Square in lieu of receiving traditional thank you gifts, with MGM Resorts wholly covering the value of the donated meals. Upon completion of the campaign, 104,305 meals were provided by MGM Resorts to Three Square–Southern Nevada’s only food bank, which provides food assistance to the residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark counties.

“We were proud to be involved in this year’s Nevada Public Radio fall membership campaign to help combat food insecurity in the Las Vegas community,” said Jyoti Chopra, Chief Diversity and Sustainability Officer, MGM Resorts International. “For more than 20 years MGM Resorts has partnered with nonprofit organizations, providing resources and services to those in need. As we look ahead to the new year, let us continue to join forces through public-private partnerships and extend our reach and impact to serve more people in need in Nevada.”

“Every year, our neighbor organizations in Southern Nevada show their true colors with generosity and compassion,” said Brian Burton, president and CEO of Three Square. “MGM Resorts and Nevada Public Radio members opened their hearts to the families that we feed, and we are honored and grateful for their kindness and contribution to the fight against food insecurity in our community.”

Three Square Food Bank’s Call Center Offers Hope to Food Insecure Seniors This Holiday Season

Three Square Food Bank’s Call Center Offers Hope to Food Insecure Seniors This Holiday Season
Hotline helps connect seniors with food assistance and resources

The holiday season is in full swing, but it’s not always joyful for the estimated 24,000 seniors in Southern Nevada who are food insecure. Three Square Food Bank encourages those 60 years of age and older who need assistance to call 702-765-4030 Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., where they will speak with a caring Advocate to determine which program, service or resource is best for them.

“The issue of hunger and isolation among seniors is a very real problem,” said Lisa Segler, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Three Square. “In a recent survey of food insecure seniors in our community, more than 30 percent reported having depression and nearly 48 percent reported experiencing loneliness. Through our Senior Hunger Programs we want to reach those folks who may be struggling and show them that they are not alone.”

Those who reach out to Three Square’s Call Center can be connected with a number of options that are available through the nonprofit’s Senior Hunger Programs and community partners, including:

Golden Groceries
With the help of Three Square’s community partners, Golden Groceries provides delicious, healthy and supplemental groceries at no cost to food insecure seniors. The program restores choice and dignity to seniors by enabling them to choose from an available inventory as well as the amount and type of food that meet their specific nutritional needs. Groceries, including lean proteins, whole grains and fresh produce, are available.

Golden Groceries locations can be found at multiple places across Southern Nevada and have special days and times dedicated to seniors to ensure they have a pleasant experience and avoid long lines.

More than 7,000 seniors access Golden Groceries in the valley, which includes rural communities.

Community Meal Programs
In addition to Golden Groceries, Three Square can provide information about community meal programs for seniors across the valley, including weekly dinner sites at the local VFW Post 10047 and lunch sites at New Beginnings Ministries.

In addition to providing healthy, hot meals, community meals provide opportunities for fellowship with friends, games and access to other community resources. These types of connections may be even more meaningful to seniors during the holidays, and this is a great way the community can pull together to take care of one another.

For more information about the finding the nearest Golden Groceries location or additional resources, please call 702-765-4030.

Three Square Food Bank’s ‘Bag Childhood Hunger’ Campaign Meets $2 Million Goal

Three Square Food Bank’s ‘Bag Childhood Hunger’ Campaign Meets $2 Million Goal

Three Square Food Bank met its goal of raising $2 million through the Bag Childhood Hunger campaign, April 1 – May 31, which supports the non-profit’s childhood nutrition programs (Kids Cafe®, BackPack for Kids and Meet Up and Eat Up). The contributions will be used right here in Southern Nevada to support the more than 103,000 food insecure children across the valley.

The Bag Childhood Hunger campaign was launched in 2011, providing healthy and nutritious meals to the one in five food insecure children living in Southern Nevada ever since. Additionally, more than 62 percent of children in Clark County schools are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs. That’s more than 203,000 students. Proper nutrition for children is critical as hunger can cause lasting physical and mental challenges.

The campaign culminated with a special celebratory event underwritten by the Bennett Family Foundation,  “Fashion for Three Square,” transforming Three Square’s north campus into a grand party venue on May 5. The gathering featured fashions by Etro, presented by Neiman Marcus, elegant decor, entertainment and food catered by chefs from top Las Vegas restaurants.

In its 10th year fighting hunger, Three Square is able to provide three meals for every dollar donated to the food bank. Thanks to the support of matching sponsors throughout the Bag Childhood Hunger campaign, Three Square can provide six meals for every dollar donated.

Contributions made to Three Square’s Bag Childhood Hunger Campaign, which continues through May 31, will be used right here in Southern Nevada and will have double the impact thanks to a generous $500,000 contribution to match gifts toward the food bank’s goal to raise $2 million.

The Bag Childhood Hunger campaign supports one of the most vulnerable populations in Southern Nevada, children. Proper nutrition for children is critical as hunger can cause lasting physical and mental challenges. One in four children in Southern Nevada live in households that are food insecure. Additionally, more than 62 percent of children in Clark County schools are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs. That’s more than 203,000 students.

In its 10th year fighting hunger, Three Square is able to provide three meals for every dollar donated to the food bank. Thanks to the support of matching sponsors throughout this campaign, Three Square will be able to provide six meals for every dollar donated.
