Be the first to enjoy smooth jazz sounds and the aroma of fire-cooked meat during the first Smokin’ Notes jazz and barbecue festival on Saturday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Knickerbocker Park, located on 10695 Dorrell Lane in the Providence Master Planned Community. The free family-friendly event is being presented by KXPT-97.1 FM The Point and the Providence Master Planned Community and Providence Master Homeowner’s Association.

Barbecue food will be available to purchase, including barbecue and smoked meats from Smoken Sams. The Tommy Thompson Project, a past best local jazz band winner in The Best of Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Review Journal, will perform. Other entertainment will be provided by 97.1 FM The Point. Attendees are invited to bring blankets, picnic baskets and well-behaved, leashed dogs.

The inaugural Smokin’ Notes will feature a Safety Fair from the Southern Nevada Traffic Safety Coalition (SNTSC). Comprised of Southern Nevada emergency entities, the nonprofit organization was created to increase road and pedestrian safety. The Safety Fair will promote Nevada’s Zero Fatality campaign, and includes motorcycle safety, beer goggle demonstrations, mounted police and more.

SNTSC representatives will compete against each other for bragging rights during a barbecue sauce-making competition, with event attendees getting to sample their creations.

A children’s activity area will feature chalk drawing, kid-friendly obstacle course and other crafts.

Youngsters also will enjoy P.D., Providence’s lovable canine mascot, and Knickerbocker Park’s tot lots, swings, splash pad, baseball field and multi-use fields. Other amenities are jogging paths with exercise stations, dog park for small and large dogs, picnic tables, and the park’s high elevation and design providing a great vantage point of the entire Las Vegas Valley.
