Non-Profit CORE Receives $8,500 from Inaugural Golf Tournament

Education Non-Profit CORE Receives More Than $8,500 from Inaugural Golf Tournament Hosted by Tap N Ash Social Club

The recent Big Smoke Weekend Shoot Out Golf Tournament, hosted by Tap N Ash at Desert Pines Golf Club, proved to be a resounding success, raising $8,561 in support of local education non-profit CORE. The impactful funds will contribute to CORE’s ongoing mission of providing support and resources for CORE Scholars and families to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Under the backdrop of beautiful sunny skies, the inaugural tournament drew more than 100 enthusiastic players, who enjoyed a day of camaraderie and competition in the Scramble Format. The event featured not only spirited rounds on the greens but also a boxed lunch, exclusive swag bags brimming with goodies, and an array of contests and raffles with exciting prizes.

Beyond the golf tournament, Tap N Ash demonstrated its commitment to CORE through a comprehensive campaign of financial support. Direct donations from club members and the community – including a $1,000 donation from The Strat, along with a round-up program for retail sales at the premier cigar lounge and social club, further bolstered the charitable efforts.

“We are so pleased that our first-ever golf tournament was a success. Everyone had such a blast, and it was all for a good cause,” said Michelle and Melvin Runles, owner of Tap N Ash Social Club. “We love our community and are proud to play a part in supporting the important work that CORE does. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”

Local education non-profit CORE is grounded in the notion that all students deserve an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. CORE empowers student and family success through enrichment and education. Currently, CORE is working with five cohorts of Scholars and families and has a presence at four local schools.

The impact of CORE on the Scholars, families, and community is profound and undeniable, particularly in the North Las Vegas zip codes that CORE serves. CORE Scholars historically achieve a compelling range of positive outcomes including increased GPA, higher rates of promotion to the next grade, higher high school graduation rates, and higher acceptance rates into college/vocational schools. CORE’s multi-generational approach also provides support for parents from program staff and community partners allowing families to better meet their fundamental needs, ensuring Scholars stay on track for school.

“We are filled with gratitude and appreciative that Tap N Ash chose CORE as their benefiting partner charity for this first-ever golf tournament,” said CORE Executive Director Jeff Jones. “The generosity of the Southern Nevada community is uplifting. It makes me proud to be surrounded and supported by like-minded individuals and organizations that truly want to help make a difference.”

Dedicated to ensuring historically underserved students and their families achieve economic mobility and lead choice-filled lives, the CORE model focuses on a long-term cohort of students/families from 6th grade through 12th grade. Scholars participate in afterschool, weekend, and summer programming to enhance their academic, social-emotional, and leadership skills. Concurrently, their families work with CORE staff to develop support networks, continue their own education, and enhance the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace. After graduation, Scholars are engaged with CORE through an Alumni Network to ensure that they stay on track and reach their full potential. The entire CORE Scholar experience is provided free of charge to participating families.
