THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES LAS VEGAS HISTORY, K9, OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAMS, PROFESSIONAL TICKET SPECIALS, MORE IN MAY

 

The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of captivating public programs in May, including “Sons of the Pioneers: Remembering Las Vegas Legends,” “Metro Police K-9 Demonstration: Sniffing Out Bombs and Drugs” and “Taking Down the Triads: Asian Agents’ Fight Against Organized Crime.” Additionally, teachers can take advantage of buy one, get one free admission for a limited time while law enforcement professionals can also receive complimentary admission on select dates.

Buy One, Get One Admission During Teacher Appreciation Week
Date: Sunday, May 5 through Sunday, May 12
Time: Daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: The Mob Museum
Cost: Buy one, get one free admission for all teachers and support staff with proof of a valid school district I.D. Valid on general admission tickets only. Expires Sunday, May 12.
Description: During Teacher Appreciation Week, The Mob Museum will offer buy one, get one free admission to all teachers and educational support professionals. The Mob Museum is also honored to partner with educators and support staff through its Investigating History educational outreach program throughout the year. The award-winning outreach program is available for classes virtually and in person. With the program, Museum educators show off historical objects and deliver interactive, standards-based lessons in history and forensic science.

Sons of the Pioneers: Remembering Las Vegas Legends
Date: Wednesday, May 8
Time: 7 to 8:15 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor.

Description: ​​Benny Binion, Jackie Gaughan, Ross Miller and Bob Bailey were the legends of gambling and entertainment in the golden age of Las Vegas. Their sons, trailblazers in their own right, will tell stories and reflect on how their fathers helped shape Las Vegas. This conversation will deliver rare insights into how a desert whistle-stop became the world’s greatest resort destination.​
Speakers:

  • ​​Michael Gaughan is the son of Jackie Gaughan and current owner of the South Point Hotel. A Las Vegas resident since 1952, Gaughan has been licensed for 20 different gambling operations in Nevada across a 55-year-long period.
  • ​Jack Binion is the son of Benny Binion. For nearly 50 years, the innovations and style of Jack Binion led to success in the gaming industry. He developed the Horseshoe Casino into a Las Vegas icon, renowned for its high limits and generous odds.
  • ​​Former Nevada Governor Bob Miller is the son of Riviera Hotel & Casino Manager Ross Miller. Distinguished as the longest-serving governor in the state’s history, Miller also held several other public offices, including lieutenant governor and Clark County district attorney.
  • ​John Bailey is the son of celebrated Nevada entertainer and civil rights leader Bob Bailey and an attorney with nearly four decades of trial experience in commercial litigation, healthcare law and gaming law. In 2001, Bailey established one of Southern Nevada’s most preeminent law firms: Bailey Kennedy, LLP.
  • ​Geoff Schumacher, vice president of exhibits and programs at The Mob Museum, will moderate the discussion.

Cost: Complimentary admission for federal, state and local law enforcement professionals with a valid I.D.
Description: In conjunction with National Police Week, the Museum is pleased to offer free admission for all federal, state and local law enforcement professionals. The Museum also celebrates the heroic and historic achievements of law enforcement through authentic artifacts, exhibits and engaging programming throughout the year.

Metro Police K-9 Demonstration: Sniffing Out Bombs and Drugs
Date: Saturday, May 18
Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Location: Behind The Mob Museum

Description: ​​Police K-9 teams perform a range of duties, from searching for missing people and subduing criminal suspects to finding bombs and illicit drugs. Officer Mike Marano and Officer Remi Damole of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will explain how the dogs are selected and trained, and a live demonstration will illustrate how K-9 teams sniff out explosives and narcotics.​

Taking Down the Triads: Asian Agents’ Fight Against Organized Crime
Date: Tuesday, May 21
Time: 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor.

Description: ​​In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, three AAPI retired FBI agents will relate their experiences investigating Chinese organized crime. The agents will delve into the underworld of the Triads and the gangs’ involvement in international drug trafficking, human trafficking and other crimes. This discussion will highlight how diversity within law enforcement has strengthened its ability to investigate and take down syndicates. This event will be held in partnership with the FBI Las Vegas Citizens Academy Alumni Association.
Speakers:

  • William Wang worked primarily in counterintelligence and espionage matters in the Bureau. With his knowledge of several Chinese dialects and understanding of Chinese history and culture, he was often called upon to participate in Chinese criminal investigations in the FBI and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Dr. Kingman Wong retired as an FBI special agent after nearly 25 years of service. During his tenure he held investigative, supervisory, management and senior executive positions, including working undercover domestically and overseas.
  • Carol Lee became a special agent investigating Asian criminal enterprises in 1986. She is the recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for Outstanding Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.

Description: For a limited time, The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, presents the chance for one lucky winner to drive away in the 1977 Cadillac Sedan DeVille d’Elegance driven by Bryan Cranston as Walter White – aka Heisenberg – in the series finale of AMC’s hit series “Breaking Bad.”

Proceeds from the raffle will support The Mob Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in delivering its mission to advance the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society through exhibits, public programming and educational outreach.
