RUNNIN’ REBELS LOOKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN TUESDAY NIGHT
UNLV at Utah State at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN3
The UNLV men’s basketball team will be going for its third straight win and first on the road in Mountain West play on Tuesday, Jan. 19, as it travels to Logan, Utah, to face Utah State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270) at 7 p.m. MST/6 p.m. PST.
UNLV is coming off two straight home wins in Interim Head Coach Todd Simon’s first two games at the helm of the program. The Runnin’ Rebels (11-7, 2-3 MW) averaged 93.0 ppg in victories over New Mexico (86-74) last Tuesday and Air Force (100-64) on Saturday. Prior to the New Mexico game, the Runnin’ Rebels had lost three straight to open conference play by a combined six points (Fresno State – 69-66; at Colorado State – 66-65; at Wyoming – 59-57). The UNM win also ended a stretch of five losses in six games for UNLV.
The Runnin’ Rebels were 9-4 during its non-conference season, playing three top-15 teams. UNLV went 2-1 in such games recording wins vs. then-No. 13/14 Indiana at the Maui Invitational and vs. then-No. 15/16 Oregon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The loss was at then-No. 13/12 Arizona.
Utah State (11-6, 3-3 MW) has won two straight as well: at home vs. Air Force (79-60) last Tuesday and Saturday at Colorado State (96-92). The Aggies went 8-3 during non-conference play.
Tuesday’s game will be streamed on ESPN3 with Trey Bender and Blaine Fowler calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM. All internet links along with live stats will be available at UNLVRebels.com.
