REBELS HEAD TO LONE STAR STATE FOR TEXAS TECH SHOOTOUT

 

UNLV track & field will compete Friday and Saturday in the Texas Tech Shootout held in Lubbock, Texas.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team will hit the road to the Lone Star State to compete in the Texas Tech Shootout. The two-day competition will take place Friday and Saturday at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.

 

UNLV will be competing against 25 other teams, including BIG-12’s Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor and BIG-10’s Purdue. UNLV will be the lone Mountain West representative.

 

Action gets underway Friday at 1 p.m. (PT) with the women’s weight throw event, followed by five running events. Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. (PT) with the women’s shot put event, followed by the remaining running events.

 

MOUNTAIN WEST RANKINGS: UNLV has a total of six student-athletes ranked in the top-20 for six events in the Mountain West standings. Cassidy Osborne-Butler sits second in the weight throw (19.53m), while Madelyn Wattles ranks 19th (14.58m). Emma Wahlenmaier sits fourth overall in the 800m (2:10.19), followed closely by Elisa Rovere who ranks fifth (2:10.54). Natalia Ruiz sits 13th in the mile (4:50.36) and 16th in the 800m (2:16.10), AnnaKay Maitland is tied for ninth in 60m (7.69) and 13th in the 200m (25.16).

 

LAST TIME OUT: The Rebels closed out the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico January 19, where the Scarlet & Gray collected six top-10 victories and a total of seven personal bests in their respective events. Osborne-Butler had a noteworthy finish securing her second consecutive weight throw event title of the season with a personal best of 64-01.00 (19.53m).
