Sends Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ message to millions around the world

Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas will be an official Las Vegas host site for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) and needs the public’s help to achieve the record. One hundred local children are required for instruction on Friday, June 20, when thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fifth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record™. The event serves to bring awareness to the importance of learning to swim and water safety tips. The global record attempt will take place at 8 a.m. PST.

To participate, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The WLSL covers a 30-minute basic swim lesson which will be held in the Red Rock Bay Wave Pool, without the waves.

“Red Rock Bay was named by the local community for our opening last year, and now is an ideal location to host a fun community event that delivers a great message of water safety,” said Takuya Ohki, general manager of Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas. “We take our role as a member of the Nevada Drowning Association and Southern Nevada Drowning Prevention Coalition seriously, and have been committed to ensuring everyone enjoys a fun and safe experience while at Wet‘n’Wild, since we opened in April and for the entire summer.”

To sign up to help set the record, email [email protected]. The deadline to register is Monday, June 16 and is on first come, first served basis. Once the maximum 100 children and 100 parents or guardians is reached, registration will close. Participants will be able to enjoy the water park’s more than 25 slides and attractions after the lesson, and will receive a certificate of participation in the event.

Team WLSL holds the current Guinness World Record™ for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson, which stands at 32,450 participants representing 13 different countries across five continents.

Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children, ages 1-5, though research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children.
