Comprehensive Cancer Centers Partners with Clark County Parks and Recreation to Offer Free Sunscreen

Comprehensive Cancer Centers Partners with Clark County Parks and Recreation to Offer Free Sunscreen at 42 Facilities

Colorful, easy to use sunscreen kiosks are available at 42 locations throughout Southern Nevada

Comprehensive Cancer Centers (Comprehensive) and Clark County Parks and Recreation have partnered to provide free SPF 30 sunscreen and skin safety tips at 42 locations throughout Southern Nevada.

Easy to use sunscreen kiosks have been made available at 28 Clark County Parks facilities (including recreation centers, community centers, senior centers and the Clark County Museums); three year-round pools; 10 seasonal pools and the Camp Lee/Mount Charleston Camp Site.

“Our skin safety partnerships with organizations throughout the valley started six years ago and this partnership with Clark County Parks and Recreation is bringing skin safety measures to so many new places where families enjoy their fun in the sun,” said Comprehensive’s chief executive officer, Jon Bilstein. “We’re always looking to help educate and protect our residents, so they can enjoy outdoor activities and hopefully never become a patient due to sun exposure. This partnership with Clark County Parks is an amazing step forward that will surely be an asset to so many throughout Southern Nevada.”

“Clark County Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to join Comprehensive in this partnership. We will be able reach the thousands of visitors that enjoy our Parks and Recreation facilities during the summer with both skin protection products and the message of skin cancer prevention. Safety is always our first mission,” said Daniel Hernandez, Director of Parks and Recreation.

In addition to its work with Clark County Parks and Recreation, Comprehensive has sunscreen partnerships with: Las Vegas Aviators, Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas, Nevada Cancer Coalition, Las Vegas Springs Preserve, Downtown Summerlin®, Cowabunga Bay, UNLV, Las Vegas Lights FC, The PENTA Building Group and Cadence master-planned community.

According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 850 Nevadans will be diagnosed with melanoma of the skin this year—higher than 2018. Amid rising rates of skin cancer and melanoma occurrences nationwide, awareness remains a powerful tool in mitigating the chance of a prospective skin-related diagnosis.

Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas Raises Awareness About Water Safety by Participating in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™, June 22

WET’N’WILD LAS VEGAS RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT WATER SAFETY BY PARTICIPATING IN
THE WORLD’S LARGEST SWIMMING LESSON™, JUNE 22

Participants receive free park entry for the remainder of the day after lesson is complete

Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas has announced that for the fourth consecutive year, the iconic water park will be an official host venue in the global record attempt for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson ™ (WLSL) on Thursday, June 22 at 9:45 a.m. Check-in will begin at 9:15 a.m.

Tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite to set a new Guinness World Recordwhile raising awareness about the importance of water safety and drowning prevention.

Team WLSL holds the current Guinness World Recordfor the largest simultaneous swimming lesson with 40,000 participants representing 24 different countries but is hoping to better that number this year.

“We are excited to be participating in this fun, world record-setting swimming lesson for the fourth year in a row,” said Takuya Ohki, general manager at Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas. “Our park is a committed member of the Nevada Drowning Association and Southern Nevada Drowning Prevention Coalition, and we are proud to be a part of this global, life-saving event. The opportunity to help raise awareness about the significance of water safety is something very important to us.”

Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended injury related death for children ages 1 to 5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows, participating in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children ages 1 to 4, yet many kids don’t receive formal swimming or water safety training.

Following the WLSL at Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, participants can enjoy the park’s world-class slides and attractions for free. To participate, each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The WLSL covers a 30-minute, basic swim lesson that will be held in the Red Rock Bay wave pool.

To register, visit www.wetnwildlasvegas.com and click on the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson event page. Availability is on first come, first served basis. Once the maximum 400 people is reached, registration will close. Each child who participates must have a parent assisting for one-on-one attention. Participants will be able to enjoy the water parks more than 25 slides and attractions after the lesson.

93.1 The Party’s Back To School Bash Featuring Jordan Fisher, FRANKIE and SYMON Presented by Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, Aug. 13

93.1 THE PARTY’S BACK TO SCHOOL BASH FEATURING
JORDAN FISHER, FRANKIE AND SYMON
PRESENTED BY WET’N’WILD LAS VEGAS

SATURDAY AUG. 13 AT 4 P.M.

93.1 The Party is counting down the days of summer with a “Back To School Bash,” presented by Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, at the Red Rock Bay wave pool on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. The performance will feature rising pop artists Jordan Fisher, FRANKIE and SYMON. The concert will have complimentary entry with paid admission to the water park and free for season pass holders. General admission to Wet’n’Wild starts at $39.99, and for a limited time, guests who purchase a one day ticket will receive the rest of the 2016 season for free.

Many know Fisher from his breakout role as “Doody” in Fox’s “Grease:  Live.” The show attracted more than 12.2 million viewers and ranked as the No. 1 most viral special live music event to date.  Already called out as “one to watch” by Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine, the multi-talented artist recently released “All About Us,” the first single from his upcoming debut album for Hollywood Records. Produced by Oak Felder, the song is complex in its modern yet retro vibe and seamlessly melds Fisher’s influences which include pop, soul, R&B and dance.  The 22-year-old singer, actor and dancer, has also just been crowned as Radio Disney’s latest “Next Big Thing” featured artist.

FRANKIE is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter, whose obsession with 90s music, strong female artists from the 70s, and a music degree, created the sound that is heard today. Her debut EP Dreamstate includes five songs which originated either on her acoustic guitar or from a dream state in her bedroom. Teaming up with her long-time friend Petros to produce the EP, the pair were able to create a unique sound that isn’t afraid to make pop music quirky and instrumentally eclectic.

Los Angeles-based recording artist SYMON has been singing, writing, and performing since her early teen years. Her big break came at 16 when she and her band at the time (The New Officials) got the gig of a lifetime, opening for Demi Lovato’s national tour. After separating from the band to pursue a solo career, SYMON found the perfect home at Artbeatz Entertainment. Fresh off her introduction to the world at the iHeart Radio summit, SYMON has been in the studio with co-writer and executive producer Gino “Farrago” Barletta crafting her debut album. Combining island grooves with pop melodies and urban lyrical flavors, SYMON’s music brings a unique and fresh sound to the airwaves. Her first single, “SAY”, released through Artbeatz Entertainment, is now available on iTunes.

Vegas
to Highlight Skin Safety Awareness and Provide Free Sunscreen to Park
Guests

Partnership promotes the importance of preventative and proactive skin safety measures

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) has teamed up with Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas for a community-focused partnership that encourages park guests to keep skin safety top-of-mind.

The components of this “first of its kind” partnership include a colorful sunscreen kiosk upon entrance to Wet’n’Wild, offering complimentary SPF 30 sunscreen to visitors for the remainder of the park’s operating season. Additionally, the kiosk is adorned with skin safety tips for guests to keep in mind not only during their visit to the park, but in their daily lives. Park-wide audio messages also will play periodically throughout the day, reminding guests to apply sunscreen and offering other proactive tips. Two additional kiosks, located at the entrance to Red Rock Bay wave pool and Splash Island, will be installed in the coming weeks.

The free sunscreen is a paraben-free, oxybenzone-free and waterproof blend. The broad-spectrum sunscreen fully protects skin against potentially harmful UV-A and UV-B rays, when applied and reapplied appropriately. The sunscreen kiosk and additional elements comprising the partnership were designed with all ages in mind and to urge park visitors to stay proactive with skin protection.

“Many negative skin conditions are fully avoidable with a hands-on approach and preventative measures,” said James Kilber, executive director of CCCN. “This partnership is ideal as it promotes fun in the sun, but also encourages safe behavior and tips on preventing skin damage. We hope that park guests will take advantage of the awareness messaging and free sunscreen throughout the remainder of the season.”

Now, Wet‘n’Wild guests who simply forgot their sunscreen, or need to conveniently reapply without interrupting the fun, have cost-free options within the park.

“Our partnership with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada to provide free sunscreen and skin safety tips at the park is a great example of our mission to provide a fun, safe and memorable experience for our guests throughout the season,” said Takuya Ohki, general manager of Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas.
