50TH ANNUAL ART IN THE PARK EVENT – October 6 & 7, 2012

Robert Fleming has been named Featured Artist for the Boulder City Hospital Foundation’s 50th Annual Art in the Park event. Fleming, who hails from Bermuda Dunes, CA, paints in traditional watercolors inspired by Southwest settings comprised of blooming cactus and lush desert scenes. Half of these works are painted on location (plein air). Robert says “I tend to stay loser and throw paint around more when I’m outside.” His featured art “Quail in the Thicket” flawlessly embraces his style and medium.

Fleming’s experience began with a strong sense of design originating at his first job: designing cards, gift wraps and books for Hallmark. Early in his career Fleming was told, “Your designs must have ‘pick up’ appeal as it is strongly competing with all the other cards in the rack.”  During his first week with Hallmark, Fleming was exposed to a watercolor demonstration by the world famous artist John Pike and from that moment on he was hooked.  Robert relates, Mr. Pike said, “Your paintings need to entertain” and I’ve been entertaining for 50 years now. Recently Fleming has developed a passion for the historical side of Golf. Last summer Fleming work, based on the 1913 U.S. Open, was accepted into the Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, FL. Fleming’s popularity continues to grow as collectors and fans are drawn to his watercolors.  You can view Roberts’s work in booth #179-180 at this year’s Art in the Park event – right next to his wife’s (Nancy Lynn) acrylic paintings – taking place October 6th and 7th, 2012.  Please note: room is still available for artists!  Please call for special pricing to become part of this time-honored event.

Art in the Park is one of the largest outdoor juried art festivals in the Southwest.  The event features hundreds of original artists in the fine art, fine/contemporary craft and traditional craft categories.  The festival is Boulder City Hospital Foundation’s signature fundraising event.  Proceeds from the event benefit the Boulder City Hospital.
