World-renowned indie musicians, Counting Crows, were joined by one of rock’s most recognizable acts, Rob Thomas, for an evening of unforgettable sound at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) on Saturday, September 17. With decades of musical experience between both acts, concert-goers were treated to a lively set of rock hits in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas.

California natives and eclectic music , Counting Crows, opened the show to a crowd of eager fans ready for a night of 90’s nostalgia. The group delivered a number of memorable singles including favorites like “Colorblind” and “Mr. Jones,” before concluding with a dynamic encore of hits, “Rain King” and “Holiday in Spain.” With the release of a new alt-rock album, “Somewhere Under Wonderland” in 2014, the group is no stranger to producing energetic music met with equally captivating live performances.

The exciting evening continued when Grammy Award-winning musician Rob Thomas took over the DLVEC stage to impress the audience with a showcase of chart-toppers and newly released material. Throughout the set, Thomas delivered Billboard hits like “Lonely No More,” “3 AM,” and “Someday.” He finished the performance with his award-winning hit, “Smooth,” for a dancing crowd of upbeat attendees.

The Venetian presents a NY special screening of ROCK OF AGES with Julianne Hough, Padma Lakshmi, Rob Thomas, and more

Celebrities rocked the red carpet Wednesday night at Landmark Cinemas for a special screening of Rock of Ages presented by The Venetian Las Vegas. The evening’s brightest stars Julianne Hough and director Adam Shankman kicked off the screening by welcoming their Hollywood friends and fans including Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas with wife Marisol Thomas, Padma Lakshmi, Dylan Lauren, Irina Shayk, Lisa Ling, Sean Lennon, and more.

Hough, clad in a curve-hugging Bluemarine dress and bright blue Giuseppe Zanotti heels, said she is looking forward to seeing when Rock of Ages debuts at The Venetian Las Vegas in December. “Vegas is as campy as it gets. It’s the perfect place!” she said. Added Shankman, “It’s the greatest honor that The Venetian just opened its very own Bourbon Room inspired by the movie. I can’t wait to go to the opening of the show at the end of the year!” The dancer-turned-actress had only the nicest words about her co-star Tom Cruise saying, “He’s hotter now than he was in his 20s” while giving a friendly shout-out to newly engaged stars Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth: “You guys will make beautiful babies!”

80s fashion and music were a hot topic of discussion pre-screening with Top Chef stunner Padma Lakshmi (in a YSL blazer, Alexander McQueen slacks, and Alexander Wang shoes) claiming vintage Chanel jewelry to be her favorite “it” accessory from the 80s. Dylan Thomas voted for neon as best 80s trend, while Rob Thomas joked “it’s time to bring the zebra-striped hot pants back.”

Post-screening, guests and celebrities were treated to appetizers and cocktails at Sons of Essex, which transformed into The Bourbon Room for the night. Friends toasted Hough and Shankman as John Waters capped off the evening’s festivities by exclaiming “That was awesome!”
