culinary landscape with bold and vibrant flavors of coastal Mexico
Industry trendsetter, Clique Hospitality, has revealed a sneak peek of the menu for Mijo Modern Mexican Restaurant, opening this fall as part of the much-anticipated Durango Casino Resort. Highlighted by bold and vibrant flavors of coastal Mexico, Mijo’s menu showcases sizzling fajitas, prime meats, grilled whole fish, and to-die-for ceviche paired with exceptional margaritas and other craft cocktails that celebrate the spirits of Mexico.
Mijo’s tacos, which are presented open-face on locally made white corn tortillas and served with scratch-made salsas and sauces, include the crispy carnitas tacos made with slow-cooked pork, guacamole, pickled onion and salsa verde, and the butter-poached lobster tacos which are glazed with a chipotle cream sauce. The surf and turf burrito, filled with shrimp, carne asada, refried beans, Spanish rice and fire-roasted salsa, explodes with flavor. The 32-ounce locally dry-aged porterhouse steak is grilled to order, basted with chili butter, and served with charred scallion salsa.
Shareable plates include empanadas filled with shredded braised chicken and roasted poblanos served with crema and chipotle salsa, and charred octopus served over a bed of navy beans and chorizo with roasted potatoes and topped with pickled shallots.
Mijo’s unblemished beverage program is its calling card. A bevy of fragrant and flavorful cocktails and hard-to-find spirits complement the cuisine, including a carefully curated selection of tequilas. Signature margaritas include the Desert Thor, made with blanco tequila, Alchemist prickly pear, Grand Marnier and lime juice; and the el picante, made with Patron silver, jalapeno-infused agave, lime and habanero. Other craft cocktails include “Walk Along the Flowers,” a visually stunning shared drinking experience that features a basket adorned with flowers, serving as the vehicle for two libations crafted with Casa Dragones, fresh watermelon, tropical guava and honeyed lime; and the “Peace Thyme,” made with Del Maguey mezcal, wildflower syrup, lemon and peach and presented in a ceramic vessel of a hand making a peace sign.
Tequilas range from smooth, unaged blancos to rich and complex aged añejos, allowing everyone from novice tequila drinkers to connoisseurs plenty to discover and explore.
