Renowned Local Band, The Melancholics, Ranks Among Top 30 on ReverbNation Rock Charts

The Melancholics, a group of local Las Vegan musicians, are celebrating making their way to the top 30 on ReverbNation.com. ReverbNation, an online social community, management resource and promotional tool for bands, musicians and recording artists, ranks bands based on their “Band Equity”. Currently, there are nearly 300 Las Vegas artists or bands listed on ReverbNation.com.

According to ReverbNation, Band Equity is a metric created that helps artists understand their overall brand value and how it is growing across the digital realm. This metric takes into account the total engagement of the artist across their entire base of fans and listeners, as well as their ability to convert casual listeners into “Fans” that can be contacted.

The Melancholics are Talmadge Pearsall (Vocals), Brian Lusk (Guitar), Phil Chamberlain (Guitar), Dwight Aguinaldo (Guitar), Edward Malik (Drums) and Neil Macintosh (Horns). Together since 1992, The Melancholics have recorded three albums and are currently working on their fourth, titled “It Could Be Worse”. Professionals by day and rockers by night, The Melancholics sound is a mix of Rock, Pop, and Alternative that offers a unique, refreshing sound with heartfelt lyrics and captivating melodies. Some of the band’s influences include notable bands including Cake, Death Cab for Cutie, Crowded House, Talking Heads, The Cure, China Crisis and R.E.M.

The Melancholics have built a strong reputation as a groove oriented quintet who draw on diverse influences while blending alternative rock, world beat, island folk, jam band and Brit-pop. The group performs regularly in Las Vegas and on the West Coast, and has appeared on several industry compilations, garnered North American and International radio play, recorded a soundtrack single for the skateboard movie Beyond the Neon and appeared at several industry showcases, festivals and battle of the band competitions. They were finalists in Gig Magazine’s “Best Unsigned Band” competition, and have performed live with Bamboo, opened for the Bare Naked Ladies and appeared on syndicated television shows “Back Stage Live” and “N-Side Track”. The Melancholics’ live performances range from clubs and coffee houses to appearances at the Joint at the Hard Rock, House of Blues, the Palms Hotel and the LA Fairplex. The Melancholics have a catalog of hundreds of songs, recorded on several studio self releases and compilations around the world, including one with platinum artists in the Philippines.

History of The Melancholics:
In 1992, Dwight and Jayme became brother in-laws. Both were active in the music scene in Southern California and began writing and recording their own material. As a duo, they performed in coffee houses and nightclubs as Melancholics. They recorded their first independent release on URM Records and were finalists in Musician Magazine’s Best Unsigned Competition. The band expanded, adding drums and guitar when Ed Malik and Sharim Johnson joined. They recorded Scrumptdillyumptious at Digital Insight in Las Vegas and began performing live all over the west coast. In 2004 the group recorded an album in Tagalog for distribution in the Philippines and Asia, and joined super group River Maya on a compilation. With the addition of Phil Chamberlain on electronic guitars, the groove sound most familiar to fans began to develop. Live shows at House of Blues and The Joint at Hard Rock led to an invitation to open the very first show by Bay Area Jammers, Moonalice featuring GE Smith and Jack Cassady for the Las Vegas Jam Band Society. In 2007 the band released the self-produced Happy Ones, which garnered critical success and an invitation to open the 20th anniversary tour for Bare Naked Ladies. In the last few years, The Melancholics have added Brian Lusk, an accomplished guitarist and music instructor, to the band, as well as lead vocalist Talmadge Pearsall, a seasoned musician, song and score writer and producer. Presently, The Melancholics are working with producer Bill Mansfield to record new material for the upcoming release, It Could Be Worse, and plan to perform live shows later this year and a West Coast tour in 2015.

HARD ROCK ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES IN GLOBAL HARD ROCK RISING COMPETITION

Battle of the Bands Competition Gives Emerging Artists the Chance to Take the Stage in Rome

Hard Rock is on the search for rising rock stars to take the stage in the heart of the Roman Empire! Hard Rock Rising, the world’s largest and most far-reaching battle of the bands competition, will give one local band the chance of a lifetime – an all-expenses paid trip to Rome, Italy to perform at the first Hard Rock Live Rome music festival this summer! The selected runner-up bands will each receive new music equipment and gear valued at $10,000.

Hard Rock, in partnership with the online musician community ReverbNation, will host open registration for bands wishing to participate in the global battle starting on Monday, January 6, 2014, through Friday, January 27, 2014. The combination of Hard Rock’s iconic brand and ReverbNation’s extensive network of more than 3.3 million artists in 250 countries worldwide will provide undiscovered bands with an international stage to jumpstart their careers.

“Hard Rock is committed to discovering new musical talent and supporting the emerging artists of tomorrow through the Hard Rock Rising program,” said John Galloway, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Hard Rock International. “Over the past two years, more than 24,000 artists entered to compete in Hard Rock Rising where more than one million songs from these up and coming artists were downloaded by fans – we’re honored to welcome these artists to Hard Rock’s global stage and look forward to discovering more talent in 2014.”

“Like Hard Rock, we believe that great music should be heard,” said Mike Doernberg, CEO and Co-founder of ReverbNation. “In everything we do, we work to expose our community of undiscovered and largely independent musicians to opportunities to get heard, get discovered, and find new fans. The Hard Rock Rising program continues to be the perfect execution of our mission.”

Rising to the Occasion – The Road to Rome

To register, hopeful bands can visit one of 81 participating Hard Rock Cafe Facebook pages. Following open registration, fans decide who moves on to the live performance phase of the program by voting on the Hard Rock city-specific Facebook page and downloading free tracks from bands of their choice. Bands that are not within a 100 mile radius of a Hard Rock Cafe can enter into a virtual battle online where a panel of judges will review the band’s social content to determine the top five bands that will compete against the winning bands from participating cafes. After voting online, fans are encouraged to visit a participating cafe where they can “triple their vote” by using a custom barcode at the cafe’s host stand.  Upon “check-in” at the cafe, guests who are 21 and older are automatically entered into a sweepstakes to win a trip for two to the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. For full rules and a list of participating locations, visit www.hardrock.com.

After fan favorites are chosen, participating Hard Rock Cafe locations around the world will host a series of live competitions featuring the local bands. One winner will be selected from each location by a panel of local industry judges. Selected local winners will be narrowed down to the top twenty-five bands worldwide following a second round of fan voting on participating Hard Rock Facebook pages.

Once the top 25 finalists are determined, a panel of music industry professionals, including Steven Van Zandt, producer, songwriter, creator of the world’s most successful radio rock show “Little Steven’s Underground Garage,” founding member of the E Street Band and soon to be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee; singer and hit songwriter Bonnie McKee, known for her hit single “American Girl” as well as hit songs for Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears; Laura Taylor of Everybody’s Management, who currently works with Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons; Scott Hutchison of acclaimed indie-band, Frightened Rabbit; Stone, guitarist of Taiwanese band Mayday and Hard Rock Records’ Artist Relations Executives James Buell and Blake Smith, will help select the grand prize winner and two runner-up bands.

Committed to supporting music and emerging artists around the globe, Hard Rock International hosted more than 25,000 live music events worldwide in 2013.  The brand continues its dedication to support of up-and-coming artists in 2013 with the Hard Rock Rising Battle of the Bands, providing a forum for today’s hottest new talent.

Rock Out in Rome
Hard Rock Live Rome is a free outdoor music festival that will take place on July 12 2014, in the Piazza del Popolo, in the heart of the Roman Empire – just a stones-throw away from the Spanish Steps and the Roman Coliseum! This unique and historic musical event will embrace more than 50,000 fans from across Italy and give music lovers the opportunity to experience the first-ever Hard Rock Live Rome festival.  Winners of Hard Rock Rising will be flown to Italy and receive the ultimate rock star experience – the chance to visit the historic city of Rome and open up the main stage festivities!
