History of The Melancholics:
In 1992, Dwight and Jayme became brother in-laws. Both were active in the music scene in Southern California and began writing and recording their own material. As a duo, they performed in coffee houses and nightclubs as Melancholics. They recorded their first independent release on URM Records and were finalists in Musician Magazine’s Best Unsigned Competition. The band expanded, adding drums and guitar when Ed Malik and Sharim Johnson joined. They recorded Scrumptdillyumptious at Digital Insight in Las Vegas and began performing live all over the west coast. In 2004 the group recorded an album in Tagalog for distribution in the Philippines and Asia, and joined super group River Maya on a compilation. With the addition of Phil Chamberlain on electronic guitars, the groove sound most familiar to fans began to develop. Live shows at House of Blues and The Joint at Hard Rock led to an invitation to open the very first show by Bay Area Jammers, Moonalice featuring GE Smith and Jack Cassady for the Las Vegas Jam Band Society. In 2007 the band released the self-produced Happy Ones, which garnered critical success and an invitation to open the 20th anniversary tour for Bare Naked Ladies. In the last few years, The Melancholics have added Brian Lusk, an accomplished guitarist and music instructor, to the band, as well as lead vocalist Talmadge Pearsall, a seasoned musician, song and score writer and producer. Presently, The Melancholics are working with producer Bill Mansfield to record new material for the upcoming release, It Could Be Worse, and plan to perform live shows later this year and a West Coast tour in 2015.
