Sighting: Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Gala Celebration brings stars out for a cause at ARIA Resort & Casino, Las Vegas 4.4.14

Last night, sports and entertainment stars including Michael Jordan, Aaron Rodgers, Bruce Jenner, Nick Jonas, Ken Griffey Jr., Juan Pablo Galavis & Nikki Ferrell, Boyz II Men, Josh Freeman, Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Adrian Young, among dozens of others, gathered at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 13th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Celebration.

The star-studded annual gala marked a night of celebration kicking off the two days of exclusive celebrity golf competition at Shadow Creek in the name of charitable fundraising. Also in attendance was eight-year-old Lucas, a Make-A-Wish “wish kid” who fulfilled his dream of meeting MJ earlier in the day. Lucas received celebrity treatment, following celebrities including Jesse Williams, Alan Thicke, Brandi Chastain, Gretchen Rossi, Slade Smiley, Vince Coleman, Ozzie Smith, Mario Umansky, Chris Chelios, Brian Baumgartner, Flex Alexander, Mike Piazza and many more, down the red carpet as dozens of cameras flashed away.

At the gala celebration inside ARIA, celebrities mingled over a multiple-course gourmet dinner from incredible ARIA restaurants including Jean Georges Steakhouse, Sage, & Julian Serrano.

Jordan sat front row and center at a table by the stage, alongside pals including Ahmad Rashad and Stuart Scott. Bill Cramsey, ARIA’s Executive Director of National Marketing, introduced the tournament host and welcomed him to the stage, crediting MJ’s celebrity invitational tournament for the role it has played in the success of the resort itself.

Jordan welcomed guests to the gala and thanked ARIA, Shadow Creek, sponsors and volunteers for their time and service. Jordan also thanked all of his friends for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend the tournament, reminding them that it’s not for him, but for the many people who receive support from the benefiting charities each year. He encouraged fellow celebs to find “wish kid” Lucas at the gala – telling the crowd how much fun they had together at the course and explaining that Lucas, and the many other children whose lives have been touched throughout MJCI’s thirteen years, are the true inspiration for holding events such as the celebration gala.

The celebrities and VIPs enjoyed an evening of entertainment hosted by magician, comedian, actor and television personality Justin Willman, a regular guest on The Tonight Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Chelsea Lately and host of Cupcake Wars.

Willman had the audience in stitches as he pulled Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant and former NFL halfback Jerome Bettis on stage for several magic tricks through his standup routine.

The gala’s headlining performer and GRAMMY Award-winning artist T-Pain brought the crowd to their feet as he launched his energetic set with hit song “Good Life” and thrilling the crowd with performances of some of his most famous collaborations including Jaime Foxx’s “Blame It,” Lil Wayne’s “Got Money,” Rick Ross’ “The Boss” and Flo Rida’s six-time, multi-platinum “Low,” among others.

Stars took to the dance floor to dance the night away, including actress Janet Jones-Gretzky who was spotted breaking it down to “Black And Yellow” alongside Alan Thicke’s wife and actress Tanya Callau.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and innovator of funk George Clinton surprised the crowd by joining T-Pain on stage for superstar collaboration of T-Pain and Maino’s 2009 hit, “All The Above.”

The legendary funk performer was next joined on stage by his band Parliament-Funkadelic to deliver signature songs “Bring The Funk,” “Flashlight” and more. Clinton, who has been performing for more than 50 years, put on an epic set, stepping off the stage and into the crowd numerous times to invigorate the dance floor and boogie with guests. The band jammed a continuous set featuring live saxophone, drums, soulful backup vocals and electric guitars and bases.

The celebration continued late into the night, as the ballroom transformed into a popup nightclub.

The celebrity-pro-am portion of the 13th annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI) hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas ended its first day earlier this evening with a spectacular 25-foot eagle putt on No. 18 by NFL All-Pro Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald.  The Arizona Cardinals’ fan favorite led his team to a Day One win with a score of -17 under par, 55, one stroke better than two other teams who were tied for second with a -16 under par, 56.

Today’s  morning kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with the second day of the celeb-amateur tournament. Today’s pairings and yesterdays’s scores are below.

Notable Moments from the Course:

  • To start his day, Michael Jordan rolled up in his North Carolina blue signature golf cart. He had fun with his group during the first day of the tournament, including daring one of his teammates to jump into the water at the 18th hole. His teammate willingly dove in which left the legend, along with the crowd, laughing hysterically. Throughout the day, Jordan bantered with fans on the course. One fan asked who he was taking in the Final Four to which he replied, “Wisconsin!”
  • Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald chest-bumped his teammates after making a 35-foot putt midway through his Thursday round and finished the day with an eagle on 18 to win Day One.
  • As Stuart Scott teed off on the first hole, a fan yelled from the crowd, “Cool as the other side of the pillow!,” referencing one of Scott’s famous SportsCenter catchphrases.
  • On Brandi Chastain’s 9th hole of the day, her second shot on the par 5 flew the green and hit a rake on the side of a sand trap. The ball bounced backwards onto the green and rolled into the hole for an amazing two. The crowd went nuts and Brandi pretended to take her shirt off, reminding fans of her infamous celebration after her game-winning penalty shootout kick against China in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
  • Real Housewives of Orange County Star Gretchen Rossi took pointers from fiancé Slade Smiley before teeing off at the first hole. As Smiley approached the tee box, he was introduced as the “sixth housewife,” to which he replied, “It’s okay, I’m proud of it!” His first shot only went a few feet so he took a mulligan and made the crowd laugh by saying, “Now that’s how you start off the day!” Rossi later posed beside her results on the scoreboard, proud of her performance for the day.
  • After finishing his 18 holes of golf, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw his golf ball into the MJCI bleachers at Shadow Creek’s 18th hole. Earlier in the day, he was spotted throwing a football around with his teammates on the 15th hole.
  • In true rock star fashion, Adrian Young’s group rolled up to each hole blasting music from their golf carts, playing everything from LMFAO’s “Party Rock” to “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones. But as he entered his backswing during his second shot, two large geese flew right over him, squawking and altering the shot. “I felt you!” he yelled jokingly at the birds

Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley Sweeten Up to Las Vegas at Sugar Factory

Gretchen Rossi and her longtime beau, Slade Smiley, of Bravo TV’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County” enjoyed lunch this afternoon at Sugar Factory American Brasserie ( ) at Paris Las Vegas. Rossi and Smiley took a walk around Sugar Factory’s attached flagship retail location after lunch, browsing the shop’s adorable merchandise, like the ceramic cupcake coin banks, key chains, trinket boxes and edgy Violent Lips temporary tattoos. The California beauty decided she just had to have one of the brand’s world-famous Couture Pops – she even grabbed a refill pack so she could always keep her treat sweet!
