MAGICIAN MAT FRANCO MAKES LARGE DONATION OF NEEDED SUPPLIES
TO THE ANIMAL FOUNDATION IN CELEBRATION OF FIRST ANNIVERSARY
OF MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY, SEPT. 9
Supply Drive Raises More than $5,000 in Animal Care Supplies, $1,680 in Monetary Donations

Today (Sept. 9, 2016), magician Mat Franco presented The Animal Foundation with a donation of more than $5,000 in much-needed animal care supplies and $1,680 in monetary gifts to benefit the more than 30,000 animals that are cared for annually by the organization. The master of sleight-of-hand met with representatives from the state’s largest open-admission animal shelter for a tour of the eight-acre property and to make the sizable donation, which was the product of a month-long, community-driven supply drive held in partnership with Sunny 106.5 FM and Petco in celebration of a tremendous year of continued success and sold-out audiences at MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY at The LINQ Hotel & Casino.

“Unlike humans, animals don’t have a voice to speak for themselves,” shared Franco. “So I was excited to find a way to help out our furry friends while thanking the community who’s been so supportive of our show in the process.”

Throughout the month of August, the young magician offered fans and community members the opportunity to receive a complimentary ticket voucher to experience MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY in return for the donation of a minimum of $10 worth of items from The Animal Foundation’s wish list, which was comprised of blankets, collars, harnesses, leashes, dog and cat treats and toys, and more.

“We are grateful for Mat’s generosity in organizing this donation drive on our behalf, and the community for the overwhelming number of donations,” said Elysia Sheldon, events manager at The Animal Foundation. “These donations will not only help the animals at The Animal Foundation, but also pets in under-served areas of the community.”

The Animal Foundation houses and provides care for thousands of lost, unwanted, neglected and abandoned animals of varying species each year, and is in constant need of supplies to continue providing top-quality care for its animals. To learn more about the needs of The Animal Foundation, visit AnimalFoundation.com.

Named “Best Strip Show” by Las Vegas Weekly, MAGIC REINVENTED NIGHTLY opened in August 2015 to rave reviews by critics and audiences alike. Vegas.com hails the production as “90 minutes of mind-bending magic,” and Las Vegas Sun has dubbed Franco as “a master magician for the millennial generation.” For tickets and more information, visit MatFranco.com and connect with the show on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – @MagicReinvented.

OWNERS DURING DOG (AND CAT) DAYS OF SUMMER

Summertime brings hotter temperatures, pool parties, and outdoor fun – but for dogs and cats, who have to wear fur coats year-round, it can mean trouble. This summer, The Animal Foundation wants to remind pet parents of some warm-weather safety tips to beat the heat, and keep furry friends cool, happy and safe throughout the season.

“Summer months can be very dangerous for pets,” said Michelle Quigley, Director of Operations at The Animal Foundation. “It’s important to remember that anytime your pet is outside, make sure he or she has protection from heat and sun, and has plenty of fresh cool water.”

Below are five tips for protecting pets from heat stroke this summer:

Don’t leave pets in unattended cars. Even with the windows cracked and the air conditioning on, pets can fatally overheat in cars in as little as 10 minutes. It is also unlawful – pet owners can be charged with a misdemeanor in Las Vegas for leaving pets in unattended cars during “periods of extreme heat.” To report pets locked in cars, contact the 311 nonemergency line.

Bring your pets indoors. Shady outdoor areas are no longer cooling when the temperature gets too high. Bring dogs and cats indoors to give them a place to escape the sun.

Provide plenty of clean, fresh water. Pets can get dehydrated quickly, and always having access to water will help keep them cool.

Walk pets at cooler times of the day. Walk pets during the early morning or late evening, when the sun is least harsh. You can also help avoid burning your pet’s sensitive paw pads by walking them on grass or dirt instead of asphalt, when available.

Know the signs of pet heat stroke. Symptoms of overheating in pets include excessive panting, increased heart and respiratory rate, difficulty breathing, drooling, mild weakness, stupor/fainting, and an elevated body temperature over 104 degrees. Pets may also have seizures, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Animals with flat faces, like pugs and Persian cats, as well as elderly or overweight pets, are more susceptible to heat stroke.

If a pet shows any signs of heat stroke, owners should move the pet to a cooler area, offer small amounts of water or ice cubes, and take the animal to a veterinarian immediately. The Animal Foundation is not a fullservice animal hospital; animals suffering from heat stroke should be brought to a fullservice veterinary facility for treatment.

This summer, pet lovers who are looking to adopt a furry friend are invited to visit The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. The Campus Adoption Center is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.and houses dogs, cats, and other pets. Adoptions start at $25 (prices vary depending on size, age and breed). Click here to view location information for both adoption centers, and click here to search adoptable pets at both locations online.

Chicken Soup for the Soul:  The Dog Did What? or Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Did What?

chicken soup for the soul dogchicken soup for the soul cat

Chicken Soup for the Soul, the world’s favorite and most recognized storyteller, will join forces with The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas to encourage pet adoptions beginning July 22 and throughout the month of August.

New pet parents who adopt a dog or cat from The Animal Foundation during this timeframe will receive a complimentary copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul’s newest books, Chicken Soup for the Soul:  The Dog Did What? or Chicken Soup for the Soul:  The Cat Did What? by Amy Newmark with a foreword written by country superstar Miranda Lambert; they’ll also be entered into a sweepstakes to win a year’s supply of Chicken Soup for the Soul pet food.

Chicken Soup for the Soul will be in Las Vegas for SuperZoo 2014, a national pet retail conference at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino (July 22 – 24). Its partnership with The Animal Foundation will extend beyond SuperZoo throughout the month of August in celebration of “Dog-ust,” the unofficial birthday month for all shelter dogs.

“Chicken Soup for the Soul makes every effort to support the work of shelters and to promote adoption of dogs and cats,” said Amy Newmark, publisher, editor-in-chief and author of the last 100 Chicken Soup for the Soul books. “We use rescue dogs and cats as models on the packaging for our pet food, and we have been contributing to shelters for years. We wanted to find a way to make an impact on the Las Vegas community while we’re in town participating in SuperZoo; we’re proud to play a role in The Animal Foundations’ efforts to increase pet adoption in the city.”

Andy Bischel, director of development of the Animal Foundation, commented, “We’re incredibly busy this time of year averaging more than 1,000 dog and cat adoptions monthly, but we’re always looking for ways to increase that number. Chicken Soup for the Soul’s new books are a great way to get people excited about our cause while emphasizing the heartwarming and memorable impact a pet can have on one’s life.”

Now available for pre-order on Amazon, Chicken Soup for the Soul:  The Dog Did What? and Chicken Soup for the Soul:  The Cat Did What?each feature 101 inspirational and often hysterical stories about our canine and feline companions and the magic they bring to our lives. Each book has a wonderful, authentic and heartfelt foreword by Miranda Lambert. Newmark noted, “Miranda is an incredibly dedicated and effective spokesperson for animal welfare and for the benefits of caring for and adopting rescue animals. She and we are big supporters of the American Humane Association and we are happy that the royalties from this book will go to the Association to further its good work.”

Along with its acclaimed book titles, Chicken Soup for the Soul offers a line of pet food that will be on display at its SuperZoo booth, including dry and wet food for dogs and cats for all life stages. All Chicken Soup for the Soul pet foods are made with four proteins – turkey, chicken, duck and salmon – as well fresh fruits and vegetables. Making wholesome and balanced pet food is part of Chicken Soup for the Soul’s mission to share happiness, inspiration and wellness in everything it does.

To continue its “Dog-ust” celebrations, Chicken Soup for the Soul will host a contest on its Instagram and Facebook pages from August 1 to August 31. Two new pet families and the two shelters they adopted from each will receive a free year of Chicken Soup for the Soul wholesome and balanced dog food for one canine companion; one of the two lucky families will be chosen from The Animal Foundation entrants. To enter, contestants much submit a photo or brief blurb about their pet to Facebook or include the hashtag #DOGust2014 in an Instagram post. Then they must rally their friends and family to vote for their furry friend to become the winner of this delicious prize.

THE ANIMAL FOUNDATION’S 10TH ANNUAL “BEST IN SHOW” RAISES MORE THAN $225,000 AND FINDS FOREVER HOMES FOR 52 DOGS

Clint Holmes, Holly Madison, Siegfried & Roy, Mayor Carolyn Goodman and More Support Community Event Benefiting Homeless Las Vegas Pets

On Sunday, April 28, local celebrities, philanthropists and supporters gathered at the Orleans Arena for The Animal Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event, the 10th Annual “Best In Show,” presented by Zappos.com. The American Kennel Club-style dog show was hosted by entertainment legend Clint Holmes and successfully found forever homes for all 52 contestants while raising more than $225,000 for the organization.

Guests were welcomed with a live performance by the cast of Tony® award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet, who performed hit show tunes including renditions of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash, “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley and more. Clint Holmes was joined by local news personalities who presented a variety of categories featuring incredible shelter dogs. Presenters included KVVU’s John Huck, KLAS’ Denise Valdez, KTNV’s Beth Fisher, KSNV’s Gerard Ramalho, and Univision’s Leticia Castro. The female presenters were accompanied onstage by two dashing gentlemen from Chippendales. Also in attendance was Mayor Carolyn Goodman who donated to The Animal Foundation earlier in the week as part of Nevada’s Big Give.

Longtime supporter of The Animal Foundation Holly Madison presided over the Special Needs category, which featured two unique tripod dogs seeking adoption. The new mom wowed in a colorful floral dress and strappy pink Charlotte Olympia shoes propped by mini poodle heels. Backstage, the blonde bombshell posed for photos with contestants from the Puppy Parade category while greeting fans. Siegfreid and Roy also stepped on stage where they were honored for their steadfast commitment to animals of all sizes and species as well as their vast contributions to The Animal Foundation’s community mission.

The Cinderella story of the day was the successful adoption of Chance, a Shih Tzu mix and Special Needs contestant, who underwent a generously donated surgery by Dr. David Mason of Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center. The surgery corrected a genetic condition in Chance’s hind legs and restored him back to official “tripod” status with full use of three legs. A local family bid on Chance and welcomed him into their home at the conclusion of the event.

Winners from each category were awarded by applause, and the coveted title of “Best In Show” went to Sharlie, a beautiful two-year-old female Mastiff mix. The show was concluded by an auction-style process, where interested attendees headed backstage to big on their favorite contestants. Each one of the 52 dogs found a new and loving home to call their own. Successful bidders were required to complete The Animal Foundation’s standard adoption process, in which they are evaluated for suitability by adoption counselors.

In addition to the fifty-two contestants with new homes, The Animal Foundation successfully found forever homes for 128 animals as part of the Best In Show Adoption Weekend, which offered discounted adoption fees on all dogs over two years and all cats over one year.

The Animal Foundation and Zappos.com Present 10th Annual “Best In Show” Hosted by Clint Holmes at the Orleans Arena Sunday, April 28

Las Vegas’ Most Famous Dog Show Celebrates a Decade with “Best In Show Adoption Weekend”

On Sunday, April 28, loveable pups in need of forever homes will compete in The Animal Foundation’s 10th annual “Best In Show” – Las Vegas’ most famous dog show held at the Orleans Arena and presented by Zappos.com. Singer, songwriter and entertainer Clint Holmes will host the event as more than 50 cuddly canine contestants from The Animal Foundation, Nevada’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center, vie for the audience’s hearts and homes in an American Kennel Club-style dog show.

“Best In Show” is The Animal Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event and in 2013 celebrates a decade of helping the more than 45,000 lost, unwanted and abandoned animals who pass through its shelter doors each year. Local news personalities will present a variety of unique and incredible shelter dogs from several categories (small, medium, large, variety pack, puppy parade and special needs). The pups with the most crowd applause will advance and compete for the coveted title of “Best In Show.” Even though there is only one crowned “Best in Show,” audience members are invited to bid to adopt each four-legged contestant giving them all the most coveted prize, a forever home.

For the past ten years, “Best In Show” has raised crucial dollars that allow The Animal Foundation to operate the largest animal shelter in Nevada while providing services such as adoptions, humane education and a low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

Sunday’s “Best In Show” commences with a pre-show VIP Sponsorship Brunch and silent auction at 11 a.m. At noon, doors to the Orleans Arena open for the vendor fair and for general admission seating to the highly anticipated show at 1 p.m. The 10-year milestone event will feature several exciting acts and personalities:

  • Singer, songwriter and entertainer Clint Holmes will host the event.
  • Siegfried & Roy will be honored for their vast contributions to “Best In Show” throughout the years.
  • Celebrity Judge Holly Madison will present the “Special Needs” category.
  • Las Vegas Valley news personalities will serve as individual category presenters.
  • The cast of Tony® award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet will provide live entertainment.
  • A vendor fair in the Orleans Arena from noon to 4 p.m. will showcase unique pet-friendly businesses such as luxury pet food and apparel boutiques, expert animal trainers, local animal advocacy non-profits and more.

The Animal Foundation’s Best In Show Adoption Weekend kicks off on Friday, April 26 for three days of celebrations and special discounts as the organization aims to find forever homes for 200 dogs and cats.

  • The Animal Foundation will offer $50 off all dogs two years and older and all cats one year and older at the Campus Adoption Center (655 N. Mojave Road, Las Vegas) and PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center (286 W. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson) beginning on Friday, April 26. Special pricing will be valid through Sunday at both locations.
  • The Campus Adoption Center will open doors for a fun-filled day including a vendor fair and carnival on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The vendor fair will showcase many of Sunday’s featured businesses and the family-friendly carnival will feature giveaways, raffles, shelter tours, games and more.
