WORLD OCEANS DAY MAKES A SPLASH AT SHARK REEF AQUARIUM AND
SIEGFRIED & ROY’S SECRET GARDEN AND DOLPHIN HABITAT JUNE 6-8
Each year on June 8, The Ocean Project and The World Ocean Network globally promote and coordinate World Oceans Day – a day to celebrate and honor the majestic oceans that link us together. Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage and Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay invite guests to participate in educational activities designed to demonstrate the importance of keeping our oceans debris free. This year’s theme is “Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet” with a focus on reducing marine debris and plastic pollution.
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat
Explore this sanctuary and participate in multiple educational activities that focus on ocean conservation efforts, such as the “Better Bag Challenge” by making a promise not to use disposable bags for a year. Visit the new Sustainability Discovery Center to get a first-hand look at the role people play in protecting the oceans even in the Las Vegas desert. There also will be a watercolor activity in the underwater viewing area in which the creations will be put on display as part of a mural called “What A Healthy Ocean Looks Like To You.”
Along with other activities and education stations, artwork, essays and poems created by students from Estes McDoniel Elementary School will be available for viewing. Visitors can engage in a scavenger hunt called “Journey To A Healthy Ocean” in which they will receive forms with questions to fill out as they make their way through the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat to find answers. Guests will receive gifts to take home at the end of their visit.
