Coco, a healthy dolphin calf, is swimming her way into the hearts of guests and staff alike at The Mirage. The female calf, born July 17 at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, was officially named this week after an employee contest that drew 300 entries.

Coco displays the initials of MGM Resorts International’s “One Company, One Culture” employee philosophy in reverse order.

Coco, her mother Huf n Puf, grandmother Duchess and sister Bella are in the Birthing and Research pool, which is open to public viewing during the facility’s operational hours. Together, these females represent three generations of dolphins at The Mirage. Sofi, an 11-year-old female, completes the female pod. The calf’s father, Lightning, is located in another pool.

Dolphin Calf Makes a Splash at The Mirage

DOLPHIN CALF MAKES A SPLASH AT THE MIRAGE

New Addition Joins Family of Bottlenose Dolphins at
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat

A healthy dolphin calf is getting into the “swim” of things to the delight of guests and staff alike at The Mirage . The energetic female calf was born July 17, to Huf n Puf, who was born at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat in March 2000.

Both mother and calf are doing well. Immediately after delivery, the calf swam unassisted to the water’s surface and took her first breath. The calf, which will soon be named, has quickly taken to her surroundings, is nursing well and bonding with her mother as she closely follows her around the habitat.

“Everyone at The Mirage is thrilled about the new calf and how well she is doing,” said David Blasko, Director of Animal Care at The Mirage. “We invite guests to see the calf and discover how our conservation efforts today will help preserve these beautiful animals in the wild for future generations to enjoy.”

As dolphin calves remain very delicate through their first year of life, the Animal Care staff continually monitors the calf as she tests her independence and explores her new world. While there are several milestones to pass in the coming days and weeks, the team remains cautiously optimistic that they have a healthy new member of their aquatic family.

Huf n Puf, an experienced mother, and her calf are in the Birthing and Research pool which is open to public viewing during the facility’s operational hours. Alongside the new mother and calf are Huf n Puf’s mother and daughter, Duchess and Bella. Together, these females represent three generations of dolphins at The Mirage. Sofi, an 11-year-old female, completes the female pod. The calf’s father, Lightning, is located in another pool.

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat has earned Humane Conservation™ certification from American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare and well-being. The Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage also is accredited by the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, an international association dedicated to the highest standards of care for marine mammals and to their conservation in the wild through public education, scientific study and wildlife presentations.

Committed to educating guests about the environment, the Sustainability Discovery Center at The Mirage provides information on plastic pollution, marine debris, water facts and how our daily decisions can greatly impact the world’s oceans and animal habitats. Additionally, through Trainer for a Day and VIP Tour experiences guests can acquire more in-depth knowledge about dolphin health and behavior, as well as the Dolphin Habitat’s research projects that aid in the survival of bottlenose dolphins in the wild.

Children take special delight in visiting the dolphins and new calves. As part of a continuing arrangement with the Clark County School District, The Mirage welcomes thousands of young students each year to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat during school field trips, at no charge, to view the animals up close.

The Mirage

SIEGFRIED & ROY MADE SPECIAL APPERANCE IN RECOGNITION
OF SARMOTI CUBS DAY
AND APPOINTED CHILD AMBASSADOR OR CONSERVATION

Today, in recognition of SARMOTI Cubs Day, Siegfried & Roy appointed 12-year-old Emma Goldsberry of Make-A-Wish Foundation as the SARMOTI Cubs Child Ambassador of Conservation. At a private event at The Mirage Hotel & Casino, Trevor Scherrer, President & COO of The Mirage Hotel & Casino, welcomed notable officials including Lisa Levine, who attended on behalf of Congresswoman Dina Titus and Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick. Both officials presented proclamations to mark the occasion and though unable to attend, Senator Harry Reid also made statement about the SARMOTI cubs in the congressional record.

Born on August 5, Hirah, Maharani, Liberty and Justice were dubbed the SARMOTI Cubs after Siegfried & Roy’s SARMOTI Foundation, which is dedicated to the protection, conservation and preservation of endangered animals, with a particular focus on big cats: tigers, lions, cheetahs, panthers and leopards. The siblings can be seen daily from noon to 4 p.m. at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat and followed on Twitter and Instagram at @SARMOTIcubs and on Facebook at Facebook.com/SARMOTIcubs.

Born on August 5 at the Secret Garden to mother Indira and father Svengali, these are the first tiger cubs to be introduced at The Mirage in five years. Animal lovers from around the world will be able to watch and follow the cubs’ journey using the Twitter and Instagram handle @SARMOTIcubs and on Facebook at Facebook.com/SARMOTIcubs.

“Our newest ‘Ambassadors of Conservation’ play an important role in our never-ending quest to protect these animals,” said Roy. “It is imperative to continue our conservation efforts to save these magnificent tigers for future generations to enjoy and cherish.”

“It is always exciting to welcome new members to our family at The Mirage,” said Siegfried. “We are pleased to introduce these magical creatures to the world to relish in their beauty and are thrilled that people across the world can watch the cubs grow and learn on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.”

Starting September 12, the siblings will be available for guests to see and range in color: Liberty, a pure white female; Maharani, a striped white female; Hirah, a striped golden female and Justice, a light golden boy. The new clan has been dubbed the #SARMOTIcubs after the world-renowned magicians’ SARMOTI Foundation, which is dedicated to protect, conserve and preserve endangered and threatened animals globally, with particular focus on the big cats: tigers, lions, cheetahs, panthers and leopards.

The cubs will be available to view in a specially-designed nursery starting at noon daily.

“Without Siegfried & Roy’s conservation efforts, we would not be able to offer guests of The Mirage this unique and informative experience,” said Franz Kallao, vice president of hotel operations for The Mirage. “We are excited to welcome these four lovable tiger cubs to their new home at the Secret Garden.”

Siegfried & Roy Introduce Three White Lion Cubs to Their New Home at The Mirage

The Mirage

HELLO WORLD

Siegfried & Roy Introduce Three White Lion Cubs to Their New Home at The Mirage

Freedom, Madiba and Timba-Masai to Make Debut Friday, July 18

Three new white lion cubs, the latest additions to the Siegfried & Roy animal family, will appear for the first time in public on Friday, July 18 at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage.

The cubs – Freedom, Timba-Masai and Madiba – are brothers and were born just over 12 weeks ago in Johannesburg, South Africa. They join more than 30 other endangered and majestic animals at the Secret Garden at The Mirage.

“These boys, our newest Lion Kings, are truly our Ambassadors of Conservation and Preservation,” said Roy. “They are the living embodiment of the work of our SARMOTI Foundation which provides support for the plight of endangered species around the world. As you know the color white signifies hope and we have faith that these magnificent young lions will inspire you to join us in ensuring that the Lion’s roar is not silenced.”

There is significance to their names, all picked by Siegfried & Roy. Madiba is the tribal name of Nelson Mandela, who encouraged the magicians to keep the great lions and tigers of South Africa alive for future generations. Timba-Masai is for the Timbavati region of South Africa where the lions come from and Masai is the African tribe of the area.

“Millions of people each year visit the Secret Garden and are awed by these great creatures,” said Siegfried. “One by one, we are raising awareness for the plight of rare and endangered animals – our true mission.”

The cubs are scheduled to appear daily from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Franz Kallao, vice president of hotel operations for The Mirage, said, “We are delighted to welcome these three adorable lion cubs to their new home at the Secret Garden. As a supporter of wildlife education and discovery, The Mirage’s partnership with Siegfried & Roy has allowed us to create an opportunity for our guests to view these majestic animals up close in a unique environment.”

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost for an all-day Adventure Pass is $19.95 for adults; $14.95 for children 4 – 12; and children 3 and under are free.
