Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Nashville Unplugged is once again bringing country music fans “the story behind the song” as the longest-running songwriter series outside of Nashville returns to Mizuya Lounge at Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song . Shows take place Friday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Each week Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song brings the southern charm of Nashville to Las Vegas. The complimentary show gives songwriters of some of the biggest country music hits the chance to showcase their music and provide the stories behind their famous lyrics. The intimate, all-acoustic show offers an interactive experience that allows songwriters and the audience to connect through music. With different entertainers on the roster each week, guests have the unique opportunity to see an original show every Friday night.

Nashville Unplugged has become the place to go in Las Vegas for an impromptu, country music performance. Over the last nine years the acoustic series has included performances from the writers of Garth Brooks’ “More than a Memory,” Gary Allan’s “Nothing on But the Radio” and Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water.”

Upcoming performances include:

Tyler Hilton and Courtney Cole: Friday, Oct. 27

  • Born and raised in Palm Springs, Calif., Tyler Hilton made the move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. He released his first album The Tracks of Tyler Hilton in 2004, the same year he landed a recurring role on The CW’s “One Tree Hill.” He recently released his new single “Overtime” and is embarking on an Australian tour with Kate Voegele in December.
  • The world got its first look at Courtney Cole in 2011 on “CMT: The Next Superstar.” After the last episode aired, she was offered a full-time publishing deal. As she has pursued songwriting, Cole has opened for Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney, Chris Young, Kip Moore, Old Dominion, Granger Smith, Kane Brown, Thompson Square and more at venues across the country. In 2015, Cole released her self-titled EP and was singled out as a Spotify Spotlight Artist while The Huffington Post named her one of its “Country Artists to Watch in 2015.”
Wynn Varble: Friday, Nov. 3

  • Wynn Varble landed his first No. 1 song, “Have You Forgotten” with Darryl Worley, in 2003. The song was nominated for “Song of the Year” by the Country Music Association (CMA). Varble has had two additional songs earn “Song of the Year” nominations by the CMA: “Waitin on a Woman” and “I’m a Little More Country Than That.” Varble’s songs have been recorded by artists such as Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack, Brad Paisley, Kellie Pickler, Montgomery Gentry, Gary Allan and Trace Adkins.

Danny Myrick and Tim James: Friday, Nov. 10

  • Myrick achieved his first No. 1 gospel song as a writer at age 17 before moving to Nashville and spending the ‘90s singing lead in country rock band, Western Flyer. He has penned hits such as “Truck Yeah” by Tim McGraw and “I Love This Life” by LoCash.
  • Tennessee native Tim James has had an affinity for writing since childhood. He has two No. 1 hits under his belt including Toby Keith’s “My List” and Lee Brice’s “Love Like Crazy.” He also wrote “All I Ask For Anymore” by Trace Adkins, which was nominated for Best Country Song at the 2010 GRAMMY Awards.

Matt Warren: Friday, Nov. 24

  • Being a Nashville-native makes Matt Warren a rarity in Music City. His first cut as a writer was “Puttin’ Memories Away,” co-written with and performed by Gary Allan. This was be the first of Warren’s 15 songs recorded by Allan, including No. 1 hit “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” which was nominated for “Song of the Year” at the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards.
