Queen Bee Market Buzzes into Holiday Shopping with First Fall Expo in Las Vegas

Queen Bee Market Buzzes into Holiday Shopping with First Fall Expo in Las Vegas

Shoppers will make a ‘bee-line’ for Queen Bee Market to get a head start on holiday shopping at the popular handmade market’s fall expo on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6 at The Conference Center of Las Vegas. Described as “Etsy comes to life,” Queen Bee Market is feminine and fun, hosting more than 70 vendors who make their products by hand and display their products from booths that are designed with flair.

This will be the 25th Queen Bee Market since its creation in 2010, and the third one in Las Vegas. Originally vendors at the popular Queen Bee Market, sisters Kellie Dooley and Allison Gharst became the owners in 2014 and hand-select the vendors who participate in each expo. Vendors will showcase and sell an array of handmade home décor, accessories, clothing, paper arts, vintage items, natural skin care products and more. A sampling of the confirmed participants thus far includes: Averie Lane Boutique, Tiny Seamstress, Bare Naked Botanicals, Marcella Taylor Design and more.

Attendees can also expect live demonstrations, make-and-take stations, live music and may purchase tickets to workshops. The market will also host local food trucks and beverage vendors on-site, with items available for purchase.

Tickets will be priced at $5 per person and will be available for purchase at the door. Children 12 years old and younger and military with ID receive free entry. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local non-profit organization.

Ahead of the expo, Queen Bee Market will also host a Craft Night, held at The Conference Center of Las Vegas from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4. The Craft Night will feature food, drinks, giveaways, swag bags and three take-home crafts led by celebrity guest crafter Heidi Swapp. Tickets to Craft Night are priced at $85 and are available for purchase beginning Thursday, Aug. 16 at www.TheQueenBeeMarket.com.

About Queen Bee Market

Queen Bee Market was originally founded in 2010, when it caught the attention of sisters, Kellie Dooley and Allison Gharst, who participated through their Etsy-based company, Peabody & Sassafras. The sisters purchased Queen Bee Market in 2014 and have continued to grow Queen Bee Market, amassing a strong following of vendors and visitors throughout the southwest. In 2017, Dooley and Gharst hosted their first Queen Bee Market in Las Vegas, which has since become an annual event. Both San Diego natives, the sisters balance their roles as business owners with parenthood as mothers to three small children, each. Queen Bee Market has made charitable donations to Operation Smile, Children of the Nations, Ronald McDonald House of Southern California, The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and others through its events.

Nellis Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center Moves to New & Larger Location on Feb. 22

Goodwill of Southern Nevada

Nellis Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center Moves to New & Larger Location
Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting on February 22, 2013

After sixteen years in the same location, Goodwill of Southern Nevada is moving its popular Goodwill Nellis Retail Store to a brand new location at 348 N. Nellis Blvd. (near E. Stewart Ave.) that will more than double the sales floor of the original store and offer a convenient Drive-up Donation Center.

The move means shoppers can find even more bargains and, in turn, help more people in our community find work.

The new Goodwill Nellis Retail Store and Donation Center at 348 N. Nellis Blvd. will open to shoppers at 9am on Friday, February 22, 2013, following a brief ribbon cutting.
The first 100 customers will receive a $5 off coupon to shop. Customers can enter a raffle for free prize giveaways on Friday and Saturday.

With 13,122 square feet of selling space, the new store will feature a wide variety of men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, furniture, kitchenware, home decor and other goods.  The new store will also debut a new concept for Goodwill of Southern Nevada called “Kids Korner”, a specially designated space featuring children’s toys, books, clothing, shoes and accessories.

The original Goodwill Nellis Retail Store was located at 31 N. Nellis, near Charleston. This move to a newer, larger location is part of Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s plan to open new or relocate existing stores to offer a better shopping experience and a more convenient opportunity for donating gently used merchandise.

“The relocation of the Nellis store is especially meaningful to me because the Nellis store was the first store I helped open in Southern Nevada,” said Steve Chartrand, President & CEO of Goodwill of Southern Nevada.  “That was back in 1997.  Since then, our Goodwill has grown significantly and because of the strength of our retail stores we have been able to help thousands of people find employment.”

By expanding operations at the new Nellis Retail Store & Donation Center, Goodwill of Southern Nevada is creating eight new jobs in our community, and – like all Goodwill Retail Stores & Donation Centers – revenue from the sale of gently used items at the larger new store will be used to fund Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s job placement and training programs.   Last year, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped a record 1,800 people find employment through its Career Connections program.

In June of 2012, Goodwill of Southern Nevada opened its first brand-new retail store and drive-thru donation center in six years on the corner of South Fort Apache and West Flamingo.  Four months later, in October of 2012, Goodwill relocated its Sahara store and drive-thru donation center to a larger location on Sahara near Decatur.

Goodwill currently has nine full-scale retail stores in Southern Nevada and one “Goodwill Select” store located inside the Albertsons at Maryland Parkway & Silverado Ranch.   For locations, please visit www.sngoodwill.org.

New Nellis Retail Store Hours:  Monday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm; Sunday, 10am to 6pm

Donation Center Hours: Monday through Saturday, 7am to 9pm; Sunday 8am to 6pm

EPICUREAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CONTINUES CLOTHING AND LAPTOP DRIVE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH AUGUST

EPICUREAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CONTINUES CLOTHING AND LAPTOP DRIVE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH AUGUST

Epicurean Charitable Foundation Las Vegas (ECFLV) is continuing to accept donations of new and gently used laptops and new professional business attire for students the entire month of August before the 2011 fall semester begins.

While ECFLV offers financial assistance through scholarships, many of these students do not have the resources to purchase laptops and other necessities, such as appropriate attire for professional networking functions.

“The majority of students within our scholarship program do not have their own computer, or even professional attire to wear to a job interview,” said Kevin Dimond, president of the Epicurean Charitable Foundation. “While our program provides funding for tuition, books and fees; there is still much more that our students need to be successful. Plus, this is an opportunity for our community to come together to help benefit the education of these bright, young students.

Sting Systems, a local leading provider of advanced security and monitoring systems, is donating services to repair and uncover any operating system issues, remove viruses and spyware, and optimize all student laptops for improved performance.

ECFLV will collect laptops and new professional business attire donations for the month of July at the following locations in the Las Vegas Valley. Any remaining clothing and laptops will be re-donated to other children’s and educational foundations by the Epicurean Charitable Foundation.
