Harrah’s Comedy-Magician Mac King made a special visit to four local elementary schools as part of Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2015. King held assemblies at each school, reading short stories to the students, performing tricks from his show and discussing the importance of reading. During his scheduled visits, King hand-delivered books collected from book drives held throughout February of this year with Savers of Las Vegas, the YMCA of Southern Nevada, Egg Works, The Egg & I, The Toy Box and Splashville. Donations benefitted The Public Education Foundation.

“I’d like to thank the community partners that helped make Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week 2015 really special,” said King. “I greatly enjoyed sharing the love of reading with my new pals and the enthusiasm was priceless. I look forward to making new pals next year.”

Mac King has been a long-time supporter of childhood literacy. For years, King has visited Las Vegas elementary schools to highlight the importance of literacy to students. In 2011, King launched Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour, a citywide literacy program to encourage reading for Las Vegas school children. Since then, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour has collected more than 20,000 books for local elementary school students.

Successful Canadian Toy Store Entrepreneur Expands to Las Vegas

The Toy Box Expands to U.S., Opens in Downtown Summerlin

2,717 square-foot retailer at the Valley’s most anticipated new retail center
features rare toys, pop-culture collectibles and unique finds

The Toy Box, an unordinary retail store featuring an eclectic array of toys, board games, action figures, pop culture collectibles and more, is scheduled to open in the heart of Downtown Summerlin by the end of this week. Expanding from Edmonton, Canada, entrepreneur Justin Archbold specifically chose Las Vegas to expand his unique brand, which has been established and growing since 1994.

Experienced entrepreneur with a knack for knowing the latest craze, Justin Archbold prides himself on carrying hard to find items that other stores don’t carry, and showcasing iconic pop-culture products. With 2,717 square feet in a prime central location within Downtown Summerlin, the store features a unique array of continually updated inventory including action hero figures, collectible card games such as Magic the Gathering®, Pokémon® and Yu-Gi-Oh!™, as well as popular figures and memorabilia based on your favorite video games, TV shows and movies such as Minecraft, “Dr. Who”, “The Walking Dead”, “Game of Thrones” and Marvel’s Avengers. In addition, the The Toy Box carries vinyl figures and bobble heads; a large selection of board games and dice including many different varieties of the classic game “Monopoly”; super-hero based figures; Lego® sets; trusted quality children’s toys such as Melissa & Doug®, Mattel® and Hasbro™; a great selection of stuffed animals from industry leaders TY® and Gund® toys; Lionel® trains and rare candies and sodas.

Relocating from Edmonton five years ago, Justin and his wife Nicole feel Las Vegas has so much to offer in growing their business and raising their two children. “It has been a six year goal to expand and open The Toy Box in Las Vegas,” says Justin. “After 20 years of success in Canada, we chose to broaden our reach to Las Vegas because of its diverse business climate and strong sense of community,” he added.

The Archbolds will continue to maintain their original store in Edmonton, but will focus on growing the new Las Vegas location with a key initiative of community involvement. Reaching out to the people they serve, The Toy Box plans to hold special themed holiday and character events, autograph sessions by special guests, costume theme nights and fundraising events for local schools and other non-profits.
