THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER FINALE: EDGAR VS. PENN
The 19th edition of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) long-running reality series “The Ultimate Fighter” will culminate in a live finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Sunday, July 6. In the main event, the season’s coaches, former lightweight champions Frankie Edgar (15-4-1, fighting out of Toms River, N.J.) and BJ Penn (16-9-2, fighting out of Hilo, Hawaii), will face each other in the Octagon for the third time—a meeting which marks their first in the featherweight division. American rock band 311 will return to the stage at the Mandalay Bay Beach for a performance scheduled for Saturday, June 28. The multi-platinum rock group will play an extended set list of hits, rarities, covers and classics; backed by a state-of-the-art light and special effects show. Past shows have included appearances by circus performers, aerial acrobats, fire twirlers, stilt walkers, drumlines and marching bands, making the experience energetic and entertaining. 311’s album Universal Pulse was released in July 2011 and debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Top 200 with the group’s first single “Sunset in July” reaching No. 7 on the Alternative radio chart. SHARK REEF AQUARIUM
Not your typical aquarium, Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is a total sensory experience designed to transport visitors to an undersea ocean of fantastic sights, sounds and encounters. See sharks, sawfish, giant rays, green sea turtles, piranhas, rare Komodo Dragons, a Giant Pacific Octopus, a Shark Ray and Golden Crocodiles in North America’s only predator-based aquarium. There are more than 2,000 animals in 1.6 million gallons of seawater including 15 species of sharks! Shark Reef Aquarium’s newest members include a rehabilitated sea turtle from the Florida Keys as well as two juvenile Komodo Dragons direct from Prague.
