In September, Winder Farms partnered with Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour and Clark County READS for The Second Annual Delivering Magic Book Drive to provide local public elementary schools with much needed funds and books. This year’s first place winner, Charity Kerr, chose Gordon McCaw Elementary School to win the donation and special assembly.

Winder Farms presented a $2,500 check to the school’s principal, Jennifer Furman-Born, during the special assembly. Then students were treated to a special performance by Harrah’s Headliner and Comedy Magician Mac King, where he performed some magic tricks and talked with the students about the importance of reading and the impact it had on his life. After the assembly, Winder Farms representatives were on site to hand out fresh fruit and chocolate milk and students were able to meet “Mookie” the Winder Farms Mascot.

Winder Farms Partners with Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour
to Provide Books and Money for Local Schools

Winder Farms, Las Vegas’ “Farmers Market on Wheels,” is partnering with Comedy-Magician Mac King and Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour to provide local public elementary schools with much needed funds and books. The “Delivering Magic” Book Drive will collect new or gently used books for local elementary schools for Clark County READS, an initiative of The Public Education Foundation.   Additionally, book donors will have a chance to win free groceries for a year and the opportunity to direct money to the public elementary school of their choice.  The “Delivering Magic” Book Drive will take place Oct. 3 – Oct. 22.

“We wanted to find a way to say thank you to the Las Vegas community for welcoming us into their homes for the past five years,” said Mike Dutton, chief executive officer for Winder Farms. “Giving kids a chance early on is so important and by partnering with Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour and The Public Education Foundation for the ‘Delivering Magic’ Book Drive we hope to give more children the tools they need to achieve success.”

“Every child should have the opportunity to discover the magic of reading,” said Mac King, Harrah’s Las Vegas Headliner. “With the help of Winder Farms and the Las Vegas community we will be able to further the goals of the Magical Literacy Tour and provide even more reading opportunities to local school children.”

How it Works
It is simple, during the weeks of Oct. 3 – Oct. 22 Winder Farms’ customers just leave the book donations in the coolers on the front porch and the Winder Farms deliveryman will pick them up on the regularly scheduled visit.  As a bonus, for a donation of three new or gently used books each household will receive two free tickets to see The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrah’s Las Vegas (limit two tickets per household).

Additionally, for every three books donated, an entry into a Grand Prize drawing will be generated.  Each household can donate as many books as they would like to generate multiple Grand Prize entries.  Three winners will be selected at random on Monday, Oct. 24.

“In light of recent budget cuts, allowing those directly affected to determine where the fund are needed most is a great way to empower the community,” Dutton added.
