South Point Arena & Equestrian Center Hosts “The Mane Event III” with Top Cutting Horses and Riders

South Point Arena & Equestrian Center Hosts “The Mane Event III” with Top Cutting Horses and Riders

The Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting takes over the South Point Arena on Saturday, Feb. 18

The South Point Arena & Equestrian Center will host “The Mane Event III,” a spectacular competition between some of the top Cutting horses and athletes in the United States, Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 19. Fans will witness this action-packed sport as riders and horses compete to direct their cow from rejoining its herd for the entire “run.”

The competition will include horses of all ages competing for cash and prizes every day. In addition, the Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting has been added to the exciting roster of events, which attracts some of the best horses and riders in the industry. Guests will have the opportunity to witness the Mercuria competition on Saturday evening (Feb. 18) where the winner will take home the $50,000 grand prize.

Cutting is based on traditional ranch work in which cowboys would separate or “cut” a cow from the herd. As the separated cow tries to rejoin its group, the each competitor works to keep their cow from rejoining the group. What distinguishes the cutting horse from other equine athletes is that it works on a loose rein, depends on “cow-sense” and athletic ability to do its job.

In addition to the main event, South Point will host a Western Gift Show on the arena concourse where fans can purchase Western style apparel, art, gifts and more. This event is free and open to the public. For additional information please visit South Point’s website.

World’s Largest Antique Motorcycle Auction Returns to South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa

World’s Largest Antique Motorcycle Auction Returns to
South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa
Mecum Auction to feature 1,000 antique motorcycles, Jan. 25-28

More than 1,000 antique, vintage and collectible motorcycles will cross the auction block Jan. 25-28, during the 26th annual Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction that will take place inside the South Point Arena and Priefert Pavilion. Consignments from across the country are highlighted by nine prestigious collections that will attract motorcycle buyers, sellers and spectators from around the world to the four-day event.

Among the featured collections are the last eight bikes owned by iconic rock ‘n’ roll and celebrity photographer Guy Webster that each represent the very rare, original and seemingly unobtainable vision of Italian art on two wheels. From a collection that had grown to as many as 400 motorcycles, these final eight bikes are each of early 1950s Italian vintage including a 1964 Ducati Twin Cam F-3 Racer (Lot S139), 1957 MV Augusta Squalo Formula Racer (Lot S140) and a 1956 Ceccato Grand Prix Single Cam (Lot S143).

Other collections include the nearly 80 consignments from a Major East Coast Collection, among them two “new in crate” 1992 Harley-Davidson Daytona 50th Anniversary bikes; 24 consignments all to be sold at no reserve from the Buddy Stubbs Collection; more than 60 bikes from the LaQuay Motorcycle Collection to be sold at no reserve including many rare and desirable prewar models; and six bikes formerly part of Hollywood-icon Steve McQueen’s collection.

“Even after 25 years, the motorcycle auction in Las Vegas continues to grow,” President of Mecum motorcycle division Ron Christenson said. “We sold 80 percent of the nearly 700 bikes on offer last year, and now we’ve eclipsed 1,000 bikes on offer for the 2017 event.”

Bidder registration for the auction is available online in advance for $100, $200 at the auction, and includes admission for two to each auction day. General admission tickets are available in advance online at Mecum.com for $20, and for $30 at the door and online once the auction begins. Four-day passes are available for $60. Children younger than 12 years of age will receive complimentary admission.

Doors open daily at 8 a.m., with the auction beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-28. Portions of the event will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network from 4 to 10 p.m. PST on Tuesday, Jan. 31. A live stream of the entire auction will be presented at Mecum.com.

Mecum’s website is updated daily with the latest consignments, including detailed descriptions and photographs of the motorcycles. To view the list, consign a motorcycle or register as a bidder, visit Mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.

Championship Bull Riding Returns to the South Point Arena

Tuff Hedeman Shootout on Saturday, April 19

The South Point Arena once again showcases some of the world’s most exciting bull riding action during the Tuff Hedeman Shootout, presented by Boot Barn, on Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m. Sanctioned by Championship Bull Riding (CBR), and benefitting Cox Charities, the event is the 13th of 14 stops on CBR’s Road to Cheyenne Tour where the world’s top bull riders test their skills against dynamic four-legged animal athletes.

CBR has become known for its action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats. That is largely due to the influence of four-time world champion bull rider Tuff Hedeman who coordinates every element and attends to the smallest details. From having premier bulls matched up with all-star riders, to upbeat entertainment and enthusiastic fans, the Tuff Hedeman Shootout has grown second to none.

Setting this competition apart from other bull riding events is the tournament-style format. The event’s structure appeals to new spectators and established fans alike as riders attempt to ride eight seconds and advance to the next round. Competitors may ride as many as three bulls in one night. The Tuff Hedeman Shootout starts with 24 riders competing for the opportunity to move onto the semifinals, in which 12 riders will advance. The Semifinals’ top four competitors will proceed to a Shootout round for the chance to win the bulk of a $30,000 prize pool.

Coinciding with the event is the CBR Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge, where stock contractors enter three bulls, which are also competing during the first two rounds of competition. The owner whose bulls have the highest total score will receive $25,000.

In addition, the Tuff Hedeman Shootout offers bull riders the advantage to accumulate significant points needed to qualify for the World Finals, scheduled for next July in Wyoming, which coincides with the historical Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration. The bull rider holding top standing position at the completion of the World Finals will be crowned the 2014 CBR World Champion and receive a $100,000 bonus.

Tickets for the Tuff Hedeman Shootout are now on sale, beginning at $20. Children under 12 years of age will receive a 50 percent discount on ticket pricing. Discount coupons are available at Boot Barn, Cox authorized retailers and other South Point sponsor locations. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 702-797-8055 or visit the South Point Arena event website or the CBR website.

Historic Army regiment puts on free mounted-horse exhibition

Throughout the afternoon, the 11th ACR will demonstrate honorable traditions of the American Cavalry by showcasing a variety of pistol demonstrations to display the art of weaponry used throughout history.
