GOLDEN NUGGET LAS VEGAS 52 FRIDAYS PERFOMERS
Feb. 5 – Blood, Sweat and Tears featuring Bo Bice
Founder Al Kooper conceived Blood, Sweat and Tears as an experiment in expanding the size and scope of the rock band with touches of jazz, blues, classical and folk music. When Kooper was forced out of the band soon after its eclectic debut, “Child Is Father to the Man,” Blood, Sweat and Tears became increasingly identified as a “jazz-rock” group. Now, featuring American Idol’s Bo Bice on vocals, Blood, Sweat and Tears is better than ever. Reestablishing themselves as one of the greatest touring acts around, this GRAMMY Award-winning group will perform their greatest hits including “You Made Me So Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel,” and “Hi-De-Ho.”
christopher cross
Feb. 12 – Christopher Cross
Singer-songwriter Christopher Cross was by far the biggest new star of 1980, virtually defining adult contemporary radio with a series of smoothly sophisticated ballads including the number one hit, “Sailing.” Christopher Cross’ 1980 self-titled debut album with the lead single “Ride Like the Wind” rocketed to the number two spot, and the massive success of the second single “Sailing” made Cross a superstar. In the wake of two more top twenty hits, “Never Be the Same” and “Say You’ll Be Mine,” he walked off with an unprecedented and record-setting five GRAMMYs in 1981, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year. To date, Cross is the only artist to have won Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist all in the same year.
Feb. 19 – J.T. Taylor: Voice of Kool & the Gang
James “J.T.” Taylor, lead singer for Kool & the Gang from 1979 to 1988, presided over the group’s commercial, if not artistic, peak of the early to mid-80s. Although top ten placements were frequent from 1982 through 1987, Taylor left the band for a solo career in 1988, thanks in large part to the band’s success. After signing to Epic Records in 1988, Taylor found success with several hits, including “All I Want Is Forever” and “Long Hot Summer Night.” Most recently, Taylor released a new version of the band’s 1983 song “Joanna,” in 2013.
Feb. 26 – Johnny Rivers
Renowned rock and roll singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer Johnny Rivers takes the stage for the first time at the Golden Nugget. With 17 songs in the Top 40, more than 25 million records sold in the ’60s and ’70s, and a powerful force in regaining an American foothold in the midst of Beatlemania, Rivers is an award-winning, world-class entertainer. Rivers was raised in Baton Rouge and, after learning to play the guitar from his father, began playing professionally at age 14, when he formed his first band. He went on to bring together the rhythm section that would define the West Coast sound of the ’60s. Don’t miss Rivers perform his top hits including “Baby I Need Your Lovin,” “Secret Agent Man,” and “Memphis.”
March 4 – Gin Blossoms
Formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona, the Gin Blossoms are a pop/rock band known for their southwestern sound and dominating the alternative rock era in the ’90s. With hits like “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You,” and “Follow You Down,” the Gin Blossoms have earned several platinum albums and a GRAMMY nomination.
March 11 – America
Formed in England in the ’70s, America achieved significant popularity for the trio’s close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk sound. Multi-instrumentalists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley debuted their self-titled album in 1971, which produced the transatlantic hits “A Horse with No Name” and “I Need You.” In 1974, America came roaring back into the forefront with chart toppers like “Tin Man” and “Lonely People” and again in 1975 with number one singles “Sister Golden Hair” and “Daisy Jane.”
eddie money
March 18 – Eddie Money
Legendary American rock guitarist, saxophonist and singer-songwriter, Eddie Money found success in the ’70s and ’80s with a string of Top 40 hits and platinum albums. Money continued his successes and took advantage of the MTV music video scene early with his humorous narrative videos for “Shakin'” and “Think I’m in Love.” In the mid ’80s, he returned to the spotlight with the album “Can’t Hold Back,” in which his hit song “Take Me Home Tonight” reached the Top 10, as did the hit “I Wanna Go Back.”
March 25 – Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan
American country music singer-songwriter Pam Tillis and country music singer Lorrie Morgan return to the Golden Nugget for an encore performance. Originally a demo singer in Nashville, Tennessee, Tillis was signed to Warner Bros. Records in 1981 and then went on to release three certified platinum records including “Homeward Looking Angel,” “Sweetheart’s Dance,” and a greatest hits compilation. Lorrie Morgan charted her first single in 1978 and has since then charted more than 25 singles including “Five Minutes,” “What Part of No” and “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.”
April 1 – Little Texas
As part of the Young Country movement of the early ’90s, Little Texas were responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused modern rock music with traditional country. The band sold over seven million albums and received three GRAMMY nominations plus honors from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. Their first radio release in 1991, “Some Guys Have All The Love,” became a Top 10 hit, as did their next single, “First Time For Everything.”
April 8 – Grand Funk Railroad
Originating from Flint, Michigan in 1969, this top selling American rock group of the ’70s is “Comin’ to Your Town to Help You Party It Down.” Grand Funk Railroad is excited to tour in 2016 marking a 46-year milestone in which they played to millions of fans on tours from 1969 to 2016.
April 15 – Richard Marx
As a performer, songwriter and producer, Richard Marx’s nearly three-decade-long career has had innumerable of highlights. The Chicago native has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide spawning four Top Five singles, “Hold on to the Nights,” and “Don’t Mean Nothing” which earned him a GRAMMY nomination. The follow-up, 1989’s “Repeat Offender,” was even more successful, going quadruple-platinum with two number one singles in “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting.” Marx achieved a seven-year string of triumphs that rivaled any in pop-rock music history. To this day, he is the only male artist in history to have his first seven singles reach the Top Five on the Billboard charts.
taylor dayne
April 22 – Taylor Dayne
From platinum pop songs to chart-topping dance hits, Taylor Dayne is one of the most popular vocalists of the modern age. She has enjoyed Top 10 hits in three consequent decades, selling a combined 75 million singles and albums along the way. With the release of her first two albums, Dayne racked up three number one singles, “Tell It to My Heart,” “Love Will Lead You Back” and “Prove Your Love to Me.”
April 29 – Atlanta Rhythm Section
The Atlanta Rhythm Section was paired with contemporaries like Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers – carrying the mantle of “Southern Rock” in the late ’70s. They’ve been part of the Southern Rock scene for more than 30 years. Their biggest hits include “So Into You,” “Champagne Jam,” “Imaginary Lover,” and “Spooky.” With 15 albums of outstanding songwriting and performances, The Atlanta Rhythm Section represents all the good things the phrase “classic rock” implies.
