UFC® today announced that the 9th Annual UFC International Fight Weekwill take place in Las Vegas from Tuesday, July 7, through Sunday, July 12. The week-long series of events will be headlined by UFC® 252, presented by Modelo, the 2020 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and a two-day, interactive UFC Fan Experience®.

Among the highlights, the prestigious 2020 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Toyo Tires® will be held on Thursday, July 9, at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort. The event will honor specific achievements and contributions to UFC and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, as well as recognize the global brand’s inaugural Forrest Griffin Community Award recipient.

 

On Friday, July 10, and continuing on Saturday, July 11, fans will be able to take part in a fully interactive and easily accessible free, two-day UFC Fan Experience at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. The two-day experience will feature meet and greets, autograph sessions, and partner activations that provide unparalleled access to UFC champions, Hall of Famers, top-ranked contenders, and other UFC personalities.

 Two marquee matchups are set for WWE Crown Jewel – WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and WWE Superstar Braun Strowman vs. the undefeated lineal Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury – taking place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday, October 31 at 8 pm AST/1 pm ET.

WWE Crown Jewel will also feature Team Hogan (Seth Rollins, Rusev) vs. Team Flair (Randy Orton, King Corbin) as the two WWE Hall of Famers will coach a hand-picked team of five Superstars for a five-on-five tag team match.

WWE Superstars Roman Reigns, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, The New Day and AJ Styles are also scheduled to compete. Mansoor, WWE’s first Saudi Arabian Superstar who was born in Riyadh and won the largest Battle Royal Match in WWE history at Super ShowDown in Jeddah this past June will return home.

UNLV ATHLETICS NEWS: UFC Legend Forrest Griffin Leads Self-Defense Workshop

UFC LEGEND FORREST GRIFFIN LEADS SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOP

Student-athletes and staff participated on campus Monday morning
 
 
UNLV Athletics began the first full week of November with a special self-defense workshop Monday morning, led by UFC fighting legend Forrest Griffin. Student-athletes and staff gathered at the Paul McDermott Physical Education Complex to learn tactics and strategies from the UFC Hall of Famer for self defense from potential assaults.
 
The workshop was part of a larger initiative by the athletics department to offer resources and to educate student-athletes on important and relevant topics in their day-to-day lives and personal development.
 
“We are continually exploring creative partnerships that help our student-athletes,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois. “It was our privilege to work with the UFC, UFC Champion Forrest Griffin and our UNLV Police Department to put on this self-defense workshop for our student-athletes, equipping them with resources to keep them safe. We appreciate our Rebel Academy team, including Sarah Wattenberg and Mallory Poole for leading this initiative. It was an engaging and innovative way to learn important preventative measures.”
 
The hour-long session began with Griffin and UNLV Police Detective Paul Velez explaining the importance of being aware of ones surroundings at all times and being prepared for dangerous situations if they arise, while Velez provided information about campus resources available to all students in case or an emergency or assault. Griffin discussed multiple scenarios that could arise and demonstrated movements and tactics on how to react initially to escape from the danger, then asked participants to practice the moves on each other.
 
Griffin has been leading these workshops for over 16 years and credits his background as a police officer, UFC fighter and his training in jiu jitsu for helping him teach others how to protect themselves.
 
“I was a police officer, but I wasn’t certified to teach defensive tactics,” he said. “I was the only one actively doing jiu jitsu and fighting and competing, so they said let’s get this kid over here who knows what he is doing, so I’ve been doing this for a while now.”
 
The former UFC Champion gave several informative tips about what to do if someone finds oneself in an assault situation, but his main message was about how to prevent these kind of events from happening in the first place.
 
“Since it’s only an hour class, what we’re really trying to teach them about is mentality,” Griffin said. “Situational awareness is key. It’s easier to prevent these things before they happen, but if they do, it’s not time to be a victim, you are in a fight, this is happening and you’ve got to defend yourself.”

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor’s upcoming rematch “UFC 202 Bad Blood: Diaz vs. McGregor 2” has been immortalized forever in Brent Benger’s newest creation. The original painting of Diaz and McGregor measures 36″ by 72″ and is currently on display and available for acquisition at Jeff Mitchum Galleries, MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

 

The stunningly realistic painting captures the essence of McGregor in amazing detail, who is putting everything into the rematch in the hopes of finding redemption and erasing the devastating memories of his last fight with Diaz. Known for his durability, Diaz is portrayed in the middle of the Octagon seeking respect in the most highly anticipated rematch in UFC history.

UFC® LIP SYNC CHALLENGE AT LAGASSE’S STADIUM INSIDE THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS ENDS IN A TIE


 

On Wednesday, July 6, fight fans were delighted to the lip syncing abilities of some of their favorite fighters in the UFC® Lip Sync Challenge at Lagasse’s Stadium® inside The Palazzo® Las Vegas. The event was part of the 5th annual UFC International Fight Week™. UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans, UFC middleweight Uriah Hall and Bruce Buffer, the Veteran Voice of the Octagon® participated in the competition. UFC Octagon Girl® Arianny Celeste was also on hand to provide her thoughts on the performances and UFC correspondent Megan Olivi hosted the event. UFC resident DJ AL3 provided all of the music for the challenge.

 

The lip sync challenge was held in a four-man bracket-style format with Buffer going up against Miocic and Evans taking on Hall in the first round. Buffer performed “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol complete with rock ‘n’ roll moves and sunglasses. For Miocic’s performance, he asked Buffer to come back on stage and serenaded him with “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago. The fans picked Miocic to move on to the second round where he faced the winner of Rashad Evans and Uriah Hall.

 

Evans charmed the crowd with Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places,” prompting Megan Olivi to give Evans a new nickname – “Country Rashad Evans.” Hall danced around the stage to “1,000 Miles” by Vanessa Carlton even serenading Arianny Celeste in the hopes of swaying the vote. In the end, Olivi called an audible and moved both Evans and Hall into the second and final round to face Miocic.

 

The athletes pulled out all the stops for the second round. Miocic performed Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” Evans went with “Black” by Pearl Jam, and Hall had the crowd cheering him on with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.”

 

The final vote was too close to call, leaving Stipe Miocic and Uriah Hall as co-Lip Sync Challenge champions.

In the featherweight (145 pounds) main event of the six-bout, live NBC Universo telecast, two-time UFC Veteran Ramiro “Junior” Hernandez (17-6) of Muscatine, Iowa will square off with hard-hitting KO artist Max Ceniceros (7-2) of La Mirada, Calif. Ceniceros is seeking his seventh consecutive victory, after finishing four of his last six opponents by way of (T)KO or submission.

 

In other action on the telecast, Combate Americas reality series stars J.C. Llamas (5-5) and Ricky “El Gallero” Palacios (3-1) will make their respective, second starts in the Combate Americas cage.

 

The runner-up in the reality series competition, Llamas of Bakersfield, Calif. will square off with aggressive-minded finisher Ozzie “The Outlaw” Alvarez (6-2) of Brea, Calif. via Miami, Fla. in a welterweight (170 pounds) contest, and Palacios of Mission, Texas will face Benji “The Brawler” Gomez (4-4) of Ventura, Calif. in a bantamweight (135 pounds) matchup.

 

In a featured women’s strawweight (115 pounds) bout, Invicta FC veteran Nicdali “The Night Queen” Rivera-Calanoc (8-8) of Tulsa, Okla. will collide with power puncher Katy “Red Dragon” Collins (2-1) of Branson, Mo.

 

Rising star John “Sexy Mexy” Castaneda (6-2) of Mankato, Minn. will meet an opponent to be announced, at bantamweight.

 

In the opening bout on the live telecast, undefeated KO artist Jonathan Martinez (7-0) will battle an opponent to be announced, at flyweight (125 pounds).

Saturday night, Jan. 3, was a victorious evening at Hakkasan Nightclub as UF fighter Jon “Bones” Jones celebrated after defeating opponent Daniel Cormier at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to defend his Light Heavyweight title. Jones arrived around 1:30 a.m. with an impressive entourage. The victor was spotted high-fiving fans and posing for photos as he made his way to his VIP table located on the main stage of the nightspot’s fourth-level main room. Shortly after his arrival, Jones was surrounded by friends and fans as he was greeted by a parade of cocktail waitresses fitted in fighting robes showcasing his nickname “Bones” on giant letter cards to congratulate him on the big win. The famed fighter kicked the celebration into high gear as aerialists danced above with confetti raining from the ceiling. Jones and friends were seen sipping cocktails and talking with fellow clubgoers in good spirits as Hakkasan regular Afrojack took to the DJ booth with fan-favorite hits for an evening of musical perfection. The heightened energy became contagious and conquered the nightclub as UFC fans and partygoers alike danced and mingled into the night for an unforgettable evening of bliss. Jones celebrated into the early hours of the morning, leaving the venue around 3:30 a.m.

Jamba Juice Las Vegas will celebrate the grand opening of its 10th location in the Las Vegas Valley on Saturday April 12, 2014, featuring a special meet and greet with 5-time World Champion and UFC Hall of Fame member Randy Couture.

The new Jamba Juice Las Vegas location at 6925 S. Rainbow Boulevard (On Rainbow south of the 215), expands the nutritious and whole food experience to a growing number of customers in the southwest valley who are seeking convenient and healthy meal options, including fruit and veggie juice choices.

The new location is also the only Jamba Juice outlet in the world equipped with a convenient drive-thru window.

UFC GYM Hires Hannibal Myers as President

UFC GYM® has appointed Hannibal Myers as the President of its franchise division, effective immediately. Last January, UFC GYM announced the acquisition of LA Boxing, converting over 80 locations in the last 12 months and growing to 100 locations worldwide currently. Myers will play an integral role in developing the overall franchise strategy for UFC GYM to capitalize on opportunities in the health and fitness marketplace.

 

Myers brings more than 20 years of executive franchise experience, both domestically and internationally, for companies such as Taco Bell, KFC, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Quizno’s and Shoney’s. The Texas native has pioneered non-traditional franchise development, contributing various articles to trade publications and delivering a number of related industry speeches. In this position, Myers will oversee all facets of franchise development, strategy, marketing, operations and finances.
