With three years of sold out shows at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the superstar known worldwide as The King of Country is now set to expand his “Strait to Vegas” shows into 2020. Original Band Member Gary Rossington Recovers from Heart Surgery

 

Due to illness, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour Las Vegas date, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16 at T-Mobile Arena, has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 18. Bad Company will remain as special guest co-headliner for the rescheduled date. Tickets purchased for the original August 16 date will be honored for the rescheduled October 18 date.

 

Guitarist and original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington, has been experiencing fatigue and other symptoms related to a leaky heart valve. Rossington underwent a procedure on July 31 to repair the valve. To allow him proper time to recover, the band must reschedule the upcoming tour dates. Rossington is expected to make a full recovery.

 

“We all appreciate the well wishes for Gary and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” said Johnny Van Zant, the band’s lead vocalist. “But he can’t wait to come back and perform at 100% for the fans. We will see you all soon!” 

 

Last year, the Southern Rock icons announced that after a career that has spanned more than 40 years and includes a catalog of more than 60 albums with more than 30 million units sold, they would embark on their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour. Produced by Live Nation, the career-concluding farewell tour logged over 50 stops by the end of 2018 and has continued throughout 2019 taking the band across the country and around the globe giving fans one last unforgettable night of classic American Rock-and-Roll. 
 

 

The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour marks a big moment for generations of fans, as Lynyrd Skynyrd has been touring consistently since the 90s. Original members Ronnie Van Zant, Bob Burns, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, and Larry Junstrom formed the band in 1964, originally known as My Backyard, the band changed to its famous name in the early 1970s, and became popular in the Jacksonville, FL area, where the original members were from. They signed with Sounds of the South Records in 1972, and released their self-titled disc the following year. Freed’s Bakery, the subject of Food Network’s hit show, “Vegas Cakes,” is bringing more sweets to the Las Vegas Valley with the opening of Freed’s Dessert Shop, the company’s new boutique patisserie concept offering an array of decadent pastries, cookies and more. A grand opening celebration will be held in October.

 

Located at 10870 W. Charleston #110 in Summerlin, this will be the company’s fourth location and its third Freed’s Dessert Shop. The first Freed’s Dessert Shop opened last year in Northwest Las Vegas at 6475 N. Decatur and in May, Freed’s opened a second Freed’s Dessert Shop location inside T-Mobile Arena. The family-owned bakery was established in Las Vegas in 1959.

Due to popular demand, T-Mobile Arena is extending its venue tour dates into September with a ‘cool’ new tour experience for guests. Guests attending the Special Edition T-Mobile Arena Tours will not only experience the normal 60-minute behind-the-scenes guided experience through the No. 1 venue on Billboard Magazine’s 2018 Arena Power List, but also will see the installation of the ice that will be used during the upcoming 2019-2020 hockey season.

From the stage to the cage, T-Mobile Arena is home of the city’s first professional sports team, the Vegas Golden Knights, and also known for hosting more than 100 events annually including major headline entertainment, awards shows, UFC, boxing, basketball and a variety of special events. T-Mobile Arena Tours feature multiple locations throughout the 20,000-seat venue guests may have never seen before while attending an event.

Grant a Gift Autism Foundation Joined Vegas Golden Knights for Autism Awareness Night on 4/1

Yesterday, April 1, marked the first day of Autism Awareness Month. To help the more than 8,500 children and families in Nevada living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), local nonprofit Grant a Gift Autism Foundation partnered with the Vegas Golden Knights for Autism Awareness Night. Leo (17), a Grant a Gift Autism Foundation client, and Roberto, a therapist with UNLV Medicine Ackerman Autism Center, participated in the ceremonial puck drop. Nonprofit representatives and children also welcomed players back onto the ice from intermission with a rally raid siren during the game.

The UNLV men’s basketball team will return home to the Thomas & Mack Center for the first time in a month and host Colorado State in both teams’ Mountain West opener this Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Since last playing on its home floor Dec. 1, UNLV has played at Illinois (Dec. 8), vs. BYU at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Dec. 15), and in Honolulu at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic (Dec. 22-25). 
 
UNLV is led in scoring by senior guard Kris Clyburn and sophomore guard Amauri Hardy. They are both averaging 12.4 ppg, while senior forward Shakur Juiston (10.8 ppg), who is out with a knee injury, and freshman forward Joel Ntambwe (10.5 ppg) have also averaged double figures in scoring. Juiston (8.8 rpg) and sophomore forward Mbacke Diong (6.4 rpg) have been the team’s leading rebounders. Senior guard Noah Robotham is the team’s assist leader (3.3 apg).
 
CSU is coming off an 88-68 home loss to New Mexico State on Sunday. The Rams are led in scoring by J.D. Paige with 15.8 ppg.

A rivalry will be renewed on Saturday, Dec. 15, when the UNLV men’s basketball team (4-4) faces BYU (8-4) in the Neon Hoops Showcase, benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at 5:30 p.m. The game is the first of a doubleheader with LSU vs. Saint Mary’s to follow.
 
Saturday will mark the first meeting between UNLV and BYU in men’s basketball since 2011 when the Cougars were also members of the Mountain West. Tickets for the Neon Hoops Showcase may be purchased at RunninRebelsOnTheStrip.com.
 
UNLV had won four straight games from Nov. 13-23, but have now lost their last three. The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off a 77-74 defeat at Illinois last Saturday, which was also their first road game of the year. Prior to that, UNLV dropped a 65-61 decision to Cincinnati on Dec. 1, which closed its season-opening seven-game homestand. The National Finals Rodeo is currently occupying the Thomas & Mack Center and UNLV will go 31 days between home games.

George Strait has announced a late summer addition of two 2019 shows in Las Vegas, Nevada. The King of Country will appear at T-Mobile Arena as part of his overwhelmingly successful “Strait to Vegas” series on August 23 and 24, 2019 joined by special guest Ashley McBryde. The iconic entertainer will play his final shows of 2018 this December 7 and 8 in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena.
