¡Viva Ska Vegas! skanks into Henderson April 28

The Aquabats and The Skatalites headline day-long Ska Music Festival

Smash Magazine & Miller Lite present ¡Viva Ska Vegas! highlighting some of the biggest bands in ska during an day-long music festival. ¡Viva Ska Vegas! takes over the Henderson Events Plaza (200 S. Water St.) on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from noon until 10:30 p.m. This is an all-ages show.

Tickets are on sale now. General admission tickets are available for $22, with a limited number of VIP tickets available for $42. VIP tickets include an event t-shirt and poster, as well as discounted bar access (must be 21+ and have valid ID for bar access). Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketfly.com.

¡Viva Ska Vegas! will feature bands including headliners Aquabats and The Skatalites along with Voodoo Glow Skulls, MU330, La Banda Skalavera, My Superhero, Monkey, GoGo13, The Remedies, Tuesday After School, with more bands joining the roster as the event approaches.

Sponsors include: Miller Lite, Smash Magazine, Sailor Jerry, Milagro, Stoli, Vitamin Water, Gold Mine Tavern – who will serve as host for the official after party immediately following the event.

The Aquabats, headlining this year, formed in 1994 in Orange County, Calif. The first all-crime fighting all-surfing rock supergroup in history, The Aquabats seek to destroy boredom and seek justice for all! They have released five full-length studio albums and have toured internationally. Aquabats albums have even made it onto the Billboard 200, a great feat for independent artists.

Also headlining, The Skatalites formed in 1963 in Jamaica and are pioneers of the ska movement. Their best-known songs were recorded between 1963 and 1965, including “Guns of Navarone.” After splitting up in 1965, the band reformed in 1983 and received a Grammy nomination for the 1994 album Hi-Bop Ska: The 30th Anniversary Recording. In 1996, the band received their second Grammy nomination for Greetings From Skamania. Known for their ska, rocksteady and reggae-infused style, The Skatalites continue to create original and timeless music.

West Coast ska punk band, Voodoo Glow Skulls, formed in 1988 in Riverside, Calif. Formed by brothers Frank, Eddie and Jorge Casillas, the band’s drummer, Jerry O’Neill, and Brodie Johnson on trombone, the Voodoo Glow Skulls have sold 1 million albums worldwide spanning their twenty-four year career. The Voodoo Glow Skulls are currently working on their ninth studio album.

MU330 (pronounced “em-you-three-thirty,” or “muso” as in musically aware) is a ska band formed in 1988 in St. Louis, Mo. The five members: Dan Potthast, Ted Moll, Robert Bell, Gerry Lundquist, and Chris Diebolt all met in high school music class.

La Banda Skalavera is a West Coast Latin/reggae/ska band who notably won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Breakout Los Angeles Artist during the 2009 awards ceremony

Monkey is an energetic organ-driven band out of San Francisco, Calif. “The hardest working Ska band” plays more than 200 shows a year and has won the prestigious California Music Award.

My Superhero, part of the late ’90s Orange County ska scene, released several albums and toured the U.S. many times, including touring with the Warped Tour in 1999 and 2000.

GoGo13 formed in St. George, Utah in 1993. After a brief split, the band reunited in Los Angeles in 2002 and has played sold out shows throughout the LA/OC music scene.

Sacramento Magazine calls The Remedies “…fun loving rock/funk/blues/R&B band…” The Remedies feature Walt Simmons and Thomas Mcllraith on lead vocals and lead guitar, David Pai on bass guitar, and Greg Marquis on percussion

Residing in Las Vegas, Tuesday After School is a seven-piece ska band. They are currently in the process of writing and playing local shows.

The official after party will be held immediately following the show at The Goldmine Tavern, located at 23 South Water Street in Henderson featuring Warsaw and The Delirians.

The do-it-yourself dub/punk/ska band, Warsaw Poland Brothers, tour with an ever-changing cast of characters easily moving through a wide range of styles. With a DIY attitude they’ve nationally distributed albums fueled by their indie start up label, Invisible Mass Records and continue to keep fans partying all around the country.

Los Angeles based reggae, ska and funky soul band, The Delirians formed together back in 2007. After a brief merge with Brite Spot Collective, the band reemerged again as their own band jointly under Steady Beat and Moondust Records. They have since toured nationally bringing fans an original yet familiar sound that is altogether fire for your heart, and ice for your soul.
