Vegans, Baby Presents Las Vegas’ First Vegan Food Tour

Vegans, Baby, Las Vegas’ only comprehensive guide to vegan living in Las Vegas, will launch its inaugural ‘Vegans, Baby Vegan Food Tour’ on Saturday, June 2. As the vegan dining scene in Las Vegas continues to grow exponentially and put the city on the map for its plant-based options, the latest vegan attraction will take participants on a three-hour guided tour to some of Downtown’s most vegan-friendly restaurants.

“I am constantly asked where to go for amazing vegan food in Las Vegas,” explains Vegans, Baby Founder Diana Edelman. “After the release of the Las Vegas Vegan Food Guide, I decided the next logical step would be to actually take people to some of the places I recommend in the book and also highlight other restaurants that are working hard to cater to the plant-based community.”

The first tour includes stops at five restaurants in Downtown Las Vegas, including a dessert collaboration from two of Downtown’s most popular spots, DonutBar and VegeNation.

“I’ve handpicked the restaurants on the Downtown Vegans, Baby Vegan Food Tour and love every item being served,” Edelman said. “The tour is for people who are vegan, but also for those who simply want to eat really good food. I want people on the tours to see how fun and flavorful vegan food can be. I certainly encourage those who aren’t vegan to give it a try, the dishes are that good.”

Edelman plans on running the Downtown tour biweekly on Saturdays starting in July and will also provide special tours by request for parties of seven or more. Later this summer, Vegans, Baby Vegan Food Tours will expand to The Strip to highlight vegan-friendly restaurants in select properties.

“The Vegans, Baby Vegan Food Tour is just the start,” says Edelman. “I’m eager to kick off Strip tours in the near future and offer even more opportunities for people to see how dynamic the vegan dining scene is in Las Vegas, as well as raise awareness about the restaurants in the resorts that are working to cater to this growing audience.”

Tickets for the first event are $87 and can be purchased at vegansbaby.com/las-vegas-vegan-food-tours/.

Today, Insomniac released details surrounding a brand-new partnership for shuttle services that will provide transportation for fans attending the 22nd annual EDC Las Vegas taking place May 18 – 20 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The third-party company taking control of the massive shuttle operation for North America’s largest dance music festival will update and improve services to provide air-conditioned vehicles, a dedicated customer service team open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT, seven-days a week with extended coverage during the week of the show, and on-site shuttle support for fans traveling to and from EDC from a variety of Strip and Downtown locations. Shuttle passes will be available for purchase on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m. PT, here.

“Transporting Headliners to and from the Speedway safely and conveniently remains a top priority for us,” said Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac. “This year, for the first time ever, we have laid down the foundation for a third party company to come in and run our shuttle operation. They are specialized in handling the largest music and sporting events in the world, and I’m confident they are going to improve the experience for Headliners.”

The official EDC Shuttles are the easiest way to get to and from the Speedway and the only charter bus option that drops fans off right at the festival gates. EDC Shuttles use a dedicated route to bypass regular traffic, and feature security pre-checks at each shuttle stop so fans can scan their festival wristband and walk straight into the event once they arrive each day.

Three-day Standard Shuttle passes begin at $90 before fees, while three-day Premier Shuttle passes start at $199 plus fees. All shuttle passes include three-day round-trip transportation to and from EDC with designated stops throughout Las Vegas. Standard in-bound service will begin daily at 6 p.m., with out-bound rides starting at 3 a.m. Headliners looking to attend the Opening Ceremonies at the festival can RSVP for early shuttles from 2 to 6 p.m. for a small additional cost of $5 per day. The gates to cosmicMEADOW will open at 3 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 4 p.m. Premier pass holders will be able to reserve their Las Vegas Strip and EDC departure times each day and receive one premium merchandise pack, as well as other daily goodies to enjoy on their ride and at the festival. Additional perks for both services include restrooms prior to boarding, security pre-checks to eliminate wait times upon arrival at EDC, and water at each location. On and off-site guest service teams will be available to help field questions and address concerns.

Standard shuttle locations include Downtown, MGM Festival Grounds, Mid-strip and the Rio Hotel and Casino. Premier shuttle locations include MGM Grand Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, and the Stratosphere. Premier shuttle pass holders will have earlier departure times than ever before, now beginning at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m.

Punk Rock Bowling

Punk Rock Bowling was started back in 1999 as a way to bring the independent music community together for an annual party. It has since grown into a four day festival in downtown Las Vegas that brings out fans and bands alike from all over the world. Now in its 15th year, more than 8,000 punk rock music lovers flock to Las Vegas to partake in the “biggest punk rock party of the year!”

Three days and four nights of outdoor festivals and late night club shows overtake the Downtown Fremont East District with more than 70 bands performing throughout the weekend, many special guests, reunions and rare appearances. With 1,000 punk rock bowlers competing for over $15,000 in prize money during the day, over 1,000 downtown hotel rooms, pool parties, comedy shows and a poker tournament, this is a marathon party that never stops in the City Of Sin.

“Being fans of music ourselves, we like to take all the things we dislike about festivals and eliminate them from our event,” says festival organizer Stern. “We want this to be a big party and we want everyone to have a great time. We offer good food with vegan and vegetarian options, and our drinks are probably half the price of most festivals. We also limit the capacity so it still sounds great and because our audience are such die hard fans of punk rock, we have little to no problems in the crowd. It’s like one big family enjoying a debauchery filled weekend in Las Vegas like any normal family! Ha!”

This year, organizers are very excited to announce the initial lineup for the 15th Annual Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival which will feature one of the first full performances of none other than the godfathers of west coast punk rock themselves! Taking their cue from the black flag of anarchy, let us present FLAG. Long may they wave. Featuring original members Keith Morris (vocals), Chuck Dukowski (bass), Bill Stevenson (drums 1981-1985) along with SST labelmate and Descendents guitarist Stephen Egerton (guitar) performing the music of Black Flag.

The festival is also very honored to have, for their very first time at PRB, preeminent punk band BAD RELIGION, who will be releasing their new album True North Jan. 22 on Epitaph Records. In a world still brimming with rampant anti intellectualism, inequality and oppression, the band’s signature brand of sonically charged humanist dissent seems as relevant as ever. A free download of the new song “Fuck Off” is available here. http://emailunlock.com/epitaph-records/bad-religion-f-you/

Also appearing, one of the pioneers of British punk rock, THE DAMNED, Hardcore innovators D.R.I, UK’s politically charged SUBHUMANS, ’90s pop punk phenomena LAGWAGON, New Jersey’s lovable BOUNCING SOULS, San Francisco’s finest street punks SWINGIN UTTERS, and Texas’ LOWER CLASS BRATS. This is just the beginning, with more bands to be announced.

About Flag (original members Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski and Bill Stevenson, with Stephen Egerton performing the music of Black Flag):

On Jan. 27, 1979, at a Moose Lodge in Redondo Beach, California, Black Flag took the stage for the first time. Whipping up as much meat energy as possible, they didn’t so much play songs as create rapid-fire, rhythmic drives. Everything was short. Stripped-down. A wall of distortion, built on a relentless series of riffs. And vocalist Keith Morris ran around the stage like an escaped lunatic, eventually wrapping himself in one of the venue’s American flags like it was a straitjacket. It was hardcore punk-rock before anyone ever started calling it that. It was great. You could ask anyone who was there.

Although Black Flag’s line-up — Morris, bassist Chuck Dukowski, guitarist Greg Ginn, and drummer Robo — would splinter within a year, the band’s ever-shifting membership released a half-dozen LPs (including the now-classic Damaged, My War, and Slip It In), two live albums, two compilations (Everything Went Black and The First Four Years), and several EPs that incorporated heavy metal, free jazz, and break-beats into the mix before they finally imploded in 1986.

Along the way, Black Flag wrote dozens of enduring songs, ranging from the sarcastic (“TV Party” and the Morris co-write “Wasted”) to the anthemic (“Rise Above” and the Dukowski-authored “My War”) to “Gimme Gimme Gimme” and “Nervous Breakdown.” Black Flag also headlined sold-out shows at L.A.’s Olympic Auditorium, the Hollywood Palladium, and the Santa Monica Civic, and saw an early live performance immortalized in the ground-breaking 1979 punk-rock documentary, The Decline Of Western Civilization.

Meanwhile, Dukowski served as co-owner and booking agent at the band’s own SST Records label, which became one of America’s most influential independent labels, issuing more than 100 records from such future stars as the Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, Hüsker Dü, Bad Brains, and the Meat Puppets, for openers. More importantly, Black Flag and SST’s acts hit the road, building a nationwide touring circuit for indie recording artists that continues to this day. This D.I.Y. ethos, along with the band’s anti-rock-star attitude and refusal to follow any fashion dictates, would be their greatest legacy. At least until Morris, Dukowski, drummer Bill Stevenson (who played in Black Flag from 1981 to 1985), and guitarist Stephen Egerton (who’s been a member of the Stevenson-founded Descendents and ALL since 1985) reunited for a surprise performance at L.A. promoter Goldenvoice’s 30th anniversary concert in December 2011.

Inspired by the crowd’s enthusiastic reaction, Morris (whose post-Black Flag career includes fronting the Circle Jerks and, most recently, hardcore revivalists OFF!), Dukowski (who, after exiting Black Flag in 1983, founded SWA, Würm, United Gang Members, October Faction, and, his current outfit, the Chuck Dukowski Sextet), Stevenson, and Egerton decided to extend the legacy, working up a repertoire of 30 classic Black Flag songs with an eye toward future live performances.

Taking their cue from the black flag of anarchy, they’re calling themselves FLAG. Long may they wave.

The Las Vegas Chapter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Presents  the First Traveling Hearts of Las Vegas Collection in Partnership with El Cortez Hotel & Casino

Ten heart sculptures will be unveiled on Jackie Gaughan Plaza Thursday, Dec. 6 at 12 p.m.

El Cortez Hotel & Casino and the Las Vegas Chapter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have partnered to host the first traveling Hearts of Las Vegasexhibit, featuring a collection of 10 artistic human-heart sculptures, throughout December on El Cortez’s Jackie Gaughan Plaza. To celebrate the exhibit’s launch downtown and kickoff El Cortez’s December First Friday activities, El Cortez and members of the local St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will host an unveiling ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 12 p.m.

Hearts of Las Vegas is a breathtaking exhibit of three-dimensional, five-foot tall heart sculptures crafted by local artists to help bring awareness to the treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening childhood diseases. Each artist created an original design for their hearts, which have each been charitably sponsored by local businesses to help spread awareness and support for the work of St. Jude.

“We are honored to host the first traveling Hearts of Las Vegas exhibit,” said Alexandra Epstein, executive vice president for El Cortez. “This is an amazing program in support of an important cause, and we are proud to be a part of an innovative effort to raise awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”

Prior to the formation of the traveling display, the Hearts of Las Vegas were featured individually throughout the streets of Las Vegas. In May 2012, a selection of hearts were auctioned to local individuals at the third annual “Las Vegas Honors St. Jude: An Affair of the Art” event. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the collection benefit the children of St. Jude.

The iconic property can be found in historic downtown Las Vegas at 600 East Fremont Street and is the only casino in the city’s burgeoning Fremont East Entertainment District. With 300 newly remodeled hotel rooms, including four uniquely themed suites that resulted from the 2010 Design A Suite Downtown Contest, El Cortez offers some of the best accommodations in downtown Las Vegas. In May 2009, the property opened the El Cortez Cabana Suites, a 64-room boutique hotel offering vintage South Beach style in the heart of downtown. The casino features full-pay 3-2 single deck blackjack, 10 times odds on craps, state-of-the-art roulette and more than 1,000 slot machines. El Cortez also offers a full range of sports betting options and is proudly affiliated with Michael Gaughan’s South Point Sports Book. The Las Vegas Review-Journal voted El Cortez “Best Downtown Hotel” in 2009; “Best Blackjack in Las Vegas” in 2007 and from 2009-2011; “Best Video Poker” in 2008 and “Best Keno in Las Vegas” from 2005-2006 and 2008-2011. Dining options at El Cortez include: Café Cortez and The Flame Steakhouse, a vintage favorite among Las Vegas locals. The property’s other amenities include: Subway, Dreyer’s Ice Cream Shop, Seattle’s Best Coffee, El Cortez Gift Shop and a full-service beauty and barber shop.
