ABOUT MARTY ALLEN
At 92 and then some, Marty Allen still remains the reigning champion of comedians, along with the sensational vocal cords of stage partner and wife of 30 years, Karon Kate Blackwell.  Together they celebrate Marty’s 100th birthday…give or take a few. Marty is among the last generation of the Vegas vintage performers that include Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Nat King Cole.

Upon graduating high school in Pittsburgh, Marty immediately joined the Air Force. While stationed in Italy, he attained the rank of Sergeant and earned a Soldier’s Medal of Valor. His heroism earned him a full-dress parade. After the war and to supplement his GI Bill allotment, he became the first door-to-door dance salesman.

During the 1950s, Marty worked as an opening act for stars such as Sarah Vaughan, Eydie Gorme and Nat King Cole. It was at this time he became part of the comedy team of Allen & Rossi. The duo comedy team produced a string of hit comedy albums, made 40 appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and starred in the film The Last of the Secret Agents. Allen & Rossi appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show” the same night as The Beatles.

Throughout the 1970s and into the 80s, Marty made hundreds of television appearances, becoming a regular on “Hollywood Squares”. He also appeared on “Circus of the Stars”, on games shows such as “Password” and in ten made-for-television movies.

Karon Kate Blackwell was born and raised near Ellisville, Mississippi. As a vocalist, she can glide effortlessly from country to rhythm and blues and gospel to a ballad by Irving Berlin. As a musician, she can pound out a rock ‘n’ roll song on the piano Jerry Lee Lewis style or take an old-fashioned ragtime tune and really make it swing. Several of the songs she sings are her own compositions.

Karon Kate’s boogie-woogie at the piano brings the house to their feet every time. She sings a number of nostalgic favorites, and often includes her own compositions such as “Wedding Vows”, a song she wrote for Marty for their wedding day. One of Karon Kate’s singles entitled, “I Can’t Laugh” was a Cashbox “pick of the week” selection in 1994. Together, Marty and Karon Kate explode with a passion for entertaining.

“Opening The Venue Las Vegas has been a longtime goal of mine and I am excited that the time is finally here,” said Perrillo. “As a company, we are at an exciting milestone, expanding our offerings and locations.”

Noticing an untapped opportunity in the downtown area, Perrillo broke ground on The Venue Las Vegas during the summer of 2014. His vision of developing a premier location for special events, meetings, weddings, conferences and live entertainment is the driving force behind The Venue Las Vegas, which is estimated to create approximately 200 new jobs.

“Bringing corporate and special events to Downtown Las Vegas is a boon for all downtown businesses,” said Jeff Victor, President of Fremont Street Experience. “I’m excited for the opening of The Venue Las Vegas.”

With drywall closing off this week and the start of interior painting next week, the facility’s plans include a main floor ballroom with a built-in stage, a first level lounge and bar that will be open to the public, a second level with three multifunctional event spaces and outdoor patio, and a rooftop lounge and bar that overlooks Downtown Las Vegas.

“The soon-to-be-completed construction of The Venue Las Vegas marks a new era,” Perrillo said. “We’re giving brides, event planners and destination management companies even more options to consider for their lavish private events by bringing our full-service capabilities to the heart of Downtown Las Vegas.”

Showcasing urban chic décor and rustic charm with a modern twist, The Venue Las Vegas will bring an old world Tuscan feel to the hip, contemporary landscape of downtown.

Early bird tickets on sale Thursday, Jan. 30

The 2014 Great Vegas Festival of Beer, Nevada’s largest independent craft beer festival, is joining the ranks of Downtown Las Vegas’ bustling community and introducing major upgrades when it hits the revitalized Fremont East Entertainment District on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Motley Brews will once again expand the Great Vegas Festival of Beer to accommodate the growing local beer scene and attract more breweries and beer tourists than ever before. The extensive beer list will offer attendees a selection in excess of 250 brews from more than 80 breweries and the festival will feature new focus areas for beer-inspired culinary menus, mixology, educational elements, interactive exhibits, and live music entertainment.

“We are challenging perceptions of the traditional beer festival,” says Brian Chapin, founder at Motley Brews. “Being in the middle of Downtown Las Vegas sets the stage for an unparalleled experience.”

The move to Downtown Las Vegas will offer expansive festival grounds and reduce crowd density for better access to beer, food, and the music stage.  The festival will also provide beer fans with a unique integration into the local community, ensuring a variety of entertainment options at Downtown Las Vegas establishments.

Sales for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer will begin this Thursday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. Early Bird Tickets provide the best value for festival participants and will only be available for a short time before adjusted standard pricing takes effect on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Motley Brews is once again working with the Nevada Craft Brewers Association, a nonprofit advocacy group, to support local craftsmen and prominently feature great Nevada beers at the festival.  A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Nevada Craft Brewers Association and their involvement will introduce some rare specialty beers brewed just for the Great Vegas Festival of Beer.
