Photos: “Ring of Fire” with Jewel / 4.5.13

On  April 5th packed audience at The Orleans Showroom in The Orleans Hotel and Casino, Jewel entertained the crowd with an acoustic set and a Q&A that included a sneak peek of scenes from the Lifetime Original Movie “Ring of Fire, in which she stars as June Carter Cash.  As part of THE ACM EXPERIENCE, the evening was moderated by CMT Radio Live’s Cody Alan, with Reba, Kelly Clarkson and Kix Brooks watching from the audience.  Jewel talked about the influences that June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash had on country music and how she prepared for the role while balancing being a new mom (her first project after having a baby). Contrary to initial fan belief, Jewel did not straighten her teeth in order to transform into June, but she did wear dentures so viewers wouldn’t be distracted by her trademark “snaggletooth.” “I was smiling like a beauty queen in the mirror because I had never seen myself with straight teeth!”  John Carter Cash joined her for a performance of “Storms Are On The Ocean,” and talked about how he “felt the spirit of his mom in the room” and the immediate calm he felt upon hearing Jewel would be playing the role.  In addition to singing “Wildflower,” Jewel performed “My Father’s Daughter,” which was prefaced with humorous tales about performing with her father at an early age – “I was the only 4th grader who went straight from school to the bar.”  She brought the house down at the end of the night by singing “Ring of Fire” and yodeling an old folk song from her childhood.

“Ring of Fire” will make its world premiere on Lifetime on Monday, May 27 at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Yesterday, the ACM Party for a Cause Festival, hosted by Kix Brooks, was a full day of show-stopping performances and a dedication to the military in the East Parking Lot of the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.  The outdoor music festival, which was part of THE ACM EXPERIENCE, was headlined by Dierks Bentley, with performances by Lee Brice, Kix Brooks, Hunter Hayes, Dustin Lynch, Eli Young Band and Love and Theft, and included surprise guests Sheryl Crow and Tim McGraw

Lee Brice, who is getting married in 2 weeks and “cannot wait for that honeymoon,” performed “Ring in My Pocket,” and ended his set fittingly on “Parking Lot Party.”  Hunter Hayes sang a country music-inflected version of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” and Eli Young Band thrilled fans by tossing out guitar picks, sweaty towels and drums sticks after their set. Angie Johnson, who was a contestant on Season Two of “The Voice,” and is also a military veteran, belted out the National Anthem with the honor guard in the background.

Kix then introduced Willie, Jep, Korie and Jessica Robertson from A&E’s “Ducky Dynasty” to greet fans before bringing out Academy of Country Music CEO Bob Romeo, along with the ACM Lifting Lives® team, to present a $10,000 check to Nellis Air Force Base Force Support Squadron, $25,000 to Wounded Warrior Project® and $25,000 to Folds of Honor.

Dierks Bentley was all about the fans during his headlining performance. Not only did he bring an overjoyed fan up on stage to “play guitar,” but he proceeded to hop off the stage and greet fans and also hand out a signed guitar to a very lucky girl at the end of the concert.  The surprises and fun continued when Sheryl Crow came out to perform a song with him, as well as her hit song “If It Makes You Happy.”  While Dierks started singing “Home,” Tim McGraw appeared to introduce the crowd to Army Sgt. Mathew Pickar and his wife, who received a brand new home through Operation Homefront. He then proceeded to shock them by awarding an additional $10,000 to get them started in their new home.

ACM Awards co-host Luke Bryan hosted the ACM & Cabela’s Great Outdoors Archery Event at THE ACM EXPERIENCE in the East Parking Lot of the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. This unique event brought together country music artists, military personnel and fans in an archery exhibition featuring 3D and traditional targets. ACM Awards nominee Jason Aldean, country music artists Kix Brooks, Easton Corbin, Chris Janson, Angie Johnson, Dustin Lynch, Justin Moore, Jon Pardi, Danielle Peck and Thomas Rhett and A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” stars Willie Robertson and Jep Robertson tested their skills and knowledge on bow hunting, using Cabela’s state-of-the-art archery equipment, while fans cheered them on. Luke Bryan warmed up by aiming his arrows at a picture of his ACM Awards co-host Blake Shelton. Afterwards, he engaged a little friendly competition with Jason Aldean and Willie & Jep Robertson. Luke, Jason, Willie and Jep stayed long afterwards to sign autographs and take photos with their fans.
