Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Announces Details for Little Big Town Exhibition

LITTLE BIG TOWN TO APPEAR JUNE 26 AT
COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME® AND MUSEUM
IN SUPPORT OF NEW EXHIBIT LITTLE BIG TOWN: THE POWER OF FOUR

Exhibition opens June 29 with artifacts including neon signs used on album cover for Pain Killer, Karen Fairchild’s wedding dress, costumes lined with LED lighting from the 2014 CMA Awards and more

Grammy-winning vocal group Little Big Town will be the subject of a special exhibit, Little Big Town: The Power of Four, opening June 29, 2018, and continuing through June 9, 2019, at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. The popular foursome will participate in a special program Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in connection with the exhibit. Details for the program appear below.

Little Big Town members are Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook. Many of their albums have been top sellers, including The Road to Here (2005), Tornado (2012), Pain Killer (2014), and, most recently, The Breaker (2017). Little Big Town has received six CMA awards for Vocal Group of the Year and three Grammys, among many other honors.

The new exhibit tells the group’s story from the very beginning, and includes keepsakes and photos from each member’s childhood. The narrative recounts the development of individual talents that eventually brought the four together to form contemporary country music’s first two-woman, two-man vocal group. The exhibit storyline recalls early career struggles that ultimately strengthened the group’s bond and solidified their resolve to succeed on their own terms. By making bold musical decisions, the members of Little Big Town have joined the top echelon of country music stardom.

“Karen, Kimberly, Phillip, and Jimi—Little Big Town—build their music on a foundation of beautiful vocal harmonies seldom heard in country music,” said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “The group has enjoyed best-selling, award-winning success, but achieving that success required uncommon dedication and courage—and the willingness to make records for four different labels—before Little Big Town became consistent hit makers. Their journey has been a long one, and we embrace the opportunity to share Little Big Town’s story with our visitors.”

“Having an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is something we would never have thought to dream of for ourselves. It is beyond a dream come true,” said Fairchild. “We are honored to be a part of country music, and are so thankful to all our fans, the music community here in Nashville and the museum for this privilege.”

The exhibit includes many unique items that illuminate the personalities of group members. Artifacts include a handmade Afghan ceramic pitcher, given to Sweet by an American soldier after Little Big Town performed at a small military base in isolated Tarinkot, Afghanistan. The pitcher broke on Sweet’s long trip home, and his wife, Becky, repaired it. Usually displayed in the family dining room, the pitcher is on loan to the museum.

Additional highlights of the exhibition include:

  • Neon signs used for the cover photo of the album Pain Killer (2014).
  • Instruments used in underwater scenes in the music video for “Pain Killer” (2014) including:

o   Fender DG-60 used by Jimi Westbrook

o   Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus used by Phillip Sweet

  • BCBG Max Azria linen sundress with crochet detail and Golden Goose boots worn by Fairchild when she married Westbrook in a private ceremony in Nashville, May 31, 2006.
  • Clothes fitted with glow-in-the-dark, LED tube lighting, worn by Little Big Town for their appearance at the 2014 CMA Awards. After they performed “Day Drinking,” the group was joined on stage by pop star Ariana Grande for a performance of her hit “Bang Bang.”
  • Gretsch Electromatic with silver-sparkle top played by Kimberly Schlapman in performances of “Your Side of the Bed.”
  • Childhood memorabilia, including Fairchild’s high school cheerleading uniform, Westbrook’s trumpet, Schlapman’s recital costume and a drawing by Sweet.

Special programming surrounding the opening of the exhibit will include:

  • Tuesday, June 26                                         3:30 p.m.

Interview: Little Big Town
Fairchild, Schlapman, Sweet, and Westbrook will discuss their musical inspirations, creative process, and career milestones, as well as their personal histories and the joys and challenges of collaboration. The multi-media program will take place in the museum’s CMA Theater. Tickets can be reserved by clicking here.

  • Saturday, June 30                                         11:30 a.m.

Songwriter Session: Liz Rose
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Liz Rose has gained an extensive list of credits throughout her career including the Little Big Town hits “Sober,” and “Girl Crush” winning CMA and Grammy awards for the later. Rose also wrote “Crazy Girl” (Eli Young Band); “God Made Girls” (RaeLynn); “Fearless,” “Tim McGraw,” “You Belong with Me,” and Grammy Country Song of the Year winner “White Horse” (Taylor Swift); and songs recorded by Dan + Shay, Tyler Farr, Alison Krauss, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Lee Ann Womack, and Chris Young. The program, presented by SunTrust will take place in the museum’s Ford Theater and will be streamed live at countrymusichalloffame.org

Both programs are included with museum admission and are free to museum members. Limited seating is available, and a program pass is required. For more information on how to reserve a program pass visit www.countrymusichalloffame.org.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Awards counts for artists reflect categories in which they have been recognized as individuals or as part of their duo or group. In some cases, an artist may receive more than one nomination which factors into their official count. For example, Keith Urban received two nominations in the Album of the Year category—one each as artist and producer—because that category recognizes both.

Award recipients in each category are noted above parenthetically in the Album of the Year, Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year.

The official red carpet pre-show for the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards will live stream exclusively on Twitter on April 2, starting at 3pm PT/6pm ET. The pre-show will be available to logged-in and logged-out audiences on Twitter and connected devices.

REBA McENTIRE, FAITH HILL, TIM McGRAW, AARON LEWIS, DOLLY PARTON AND MORE FEATURED IN THE LATEST EPISODE OF ‘THE PICKUP’

Continuing the tradition of presenting the top stories in country music, another all-new episode of the “The Pickup” features a look inside the performance list announced for the 50th Annual Country Music Awards, the birthday sing-along for the Grand Ole Opry’s 91st birthday, Dolly Parton’s new children’s book as well as stories featuring Aaron Lewis, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

The 50th Annual Country Music Awards will air November 2 on ABC. The first list of performers have been announced and include some of the hottest acts in country music, including Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Maren Morris, Keith Urban and more.

The Grand Ole Opry, the largest house that country music built, celebrated its 91st birthday on October 7 and 8. The birthday celebration involved a star-studded rendition of “Happy Birthday.” This sing along included Larry Gatlin, Jeannie Seely, Jan Howard, Riders In The Sky, and many, many more.

From a song to a movie, Dolly Parton is now bringing her classic “Coat of Many Colors” to a children’s picture book. Parton released the book as the latest part of her mission to improve childhood literacy. You can find the book in stores beginning October 18.

As Halloween approaches, artists have been known to get in the spirit with their costumes. This includes Tanya Tucker dressing as Dolly Parton on stage singing “I Will Always Love You,” Lady Antebellum dressed as Reba and Brooks and Dunn and more.

Aaron Lewis had a big month with the release of his newest studio album, “Sinner.” The Pickup was on hand to celebrate with him and a packed house at SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour with Buzz Brainard at Margaritaville on Nashville’s famous Broadway strip.

Reba McEntire recently received another accolade. McEntire was named Nashville Business Journal’s 2016 Artist of the Year. “The Pickup” was on hand to speak and celebrate with McEntire at The Women In Music City Awards.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are celebrating after receiving stars in Nashville’s elite Walk of Fame Park. In the same week that the power couple received their stars, Tim and Faith announced their Soul 2 Soul World Tour kicking off in New Orleans in April. Big & Rich Rise Into Top 10 on Country Radio With Latest Single, “Lovin’ Lately” Featuring Tim McGraw

The duo Big & Rich have always marched to the beat of their own drum, but now it seems that Big Kenny and John Rich are bucking the musical trends more than ever. With the entry of their latest single, “Lovin’ Lately,” into the Top 10 this week, the award-winning duo can claim a “hat trick” of three straight singles in that portion of the chart in their decade-plus history. But, the story doesn’t end there.

The singles – all from their Gravity album – were released on the group’s own Big & Rich Records label and promoted by their own independent promotion team at New Revolution – a rarity in today’s scene, controlled mainly by the majors. The duo had been part of the Warner Brothers roster for well over a decade when they decided to tackle a new way of doing things business-wise. Rich admits it was a little scary, but it’s paying off quite well.

“It’s terrifying and exciting all at the same time. You take on all the business and marketing side yourself, but there’s a big team of people that we have assembled that are helping us do this. But at the end of the day, our board meeting consists of two guys. If we agree, it will happen, and if we don’t, it doesn’t.”

The single features a vocal cameo from fellow hit maker Tim McGraw, who actually gave them the idea for the song. “He told it to us in a parking lot in Canada, where we were doing a show with him. He said he had a song title — ‘Who You Been Loving Lately?’ We thought it was brilliant. We wrote it, recorded it, and emailed it to him. His response was a video treatment — he wrote an entire video script for the song. I looked at Kenny and said, ‘I guess he likes it.’ Kenny said, ‘Apparently so, we should ask him if he wants to sing on it.’ He said, ‘Sure! What are you doing next Thursday at 3pm?’ We said, ‘Recording you, Brother Tim.”

And, the rest, as they say…..is another part of the Big & Rich story! For more information about the duo, visit www.BigandRich.com

The first single, “Look At You,” from their latest studio album, Gravity, smashed into the top 10 on the Country chart. The follow-up single, “Run Away With You,” kept the momentum rolling, also hitting the top 10, and the latest single, “Lovin’ Lately” featuring Tim McGraw also broke into the top 10. The Country superstars’ first studio album, Horse of a Different Color, includes their hit infectious single, “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).” Other hits include “Comin’ to Your City,” “8th of November” and their No. 1 hit, “Lost in this Moment.” Meanwhile, “Comin’ to Your City” is nearing a decade as the theme song for ESPN’s “College GameDay.

Featuring contributions by country music’s biggest stars from the 1960s to the present day, including Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Loretta Lynn, Alabama’s Randy Owen, Reba, Blake Shelton, George Strait, and Marty Stuart, and commentary from Kenny Chesney, Merle Haggard, Faith Hill, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and many more, This Is Country is a must-have for fans of music everywhere.

From the first informal ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium in the mid-’60s to today’s star-studded LIVE telecast viewed by millions, generations of country’s biggest superstars have graced the Academy of Country Music Awards stage.  Now, in anticipation of the 50th ACM Awards telecast next spring, the Academy has opened its archive for the first time ever to reveal candid, never-before-seen photographs and memorabilia capturing some of the greatest moments in the history of country music. Rich with backstage and performance photographs, compelling behind-the-scenes stories, and firsthand accounts from country legends and contemporary artists, This Is Country: A Backstage Pass to the Academy of Country Music Awards (Insight Editions / $50.00 / September 2014) offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the past, present, and evolution of the Academy.

“For five decades, the Academy of Country Music Awards has proudly showcased the best in country music, to the delight of millions of viewers,” said Bob Romeo, CEO of the Academy of Country Music. “We are so excited to share some of the most candid moments in our history with music fans. ‘This Is Country’ truly is a backstage pass to the ACM Awards.”

“It’s an incredible honor to help tell the story of the Academy as well as the stories of the amazing artists and people behind the scenes who have built it over the last 50 years,” said Lee.  “To flip through the pages and watch the show evolve from a Southern California banquet to a network television powerhouse is a sight to behold.”

“It’s been a wonderful experience working with the Academy and Lisa Lee,” said Robbie Schmidt, Insight Editions’ acquisitions editor. “The ACM has an incredibly rich history and we’re excited to offer country music fans this intimate look behind the scenes. A special thank you to the iconic artists whose participation and support made this book possible.”

All of the Academy’s proceeds from sales of the book will go to ACM Lifting Lives, the philanthropic arm of the Academy of Country Music, dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.  Through partnerships with artists and strong ties in the music industry, ACM Lifting Lives develops and funds music-related therapy and education programs, and serves members of the community who face unexpected hardships through its Diane Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund. Through generous donations and the support of artists and fans, ACM Lifting Lives is able to fund everything from disaster relief and helping communities in need, to music education in schools and music camps for those with disabilities, to supporting programs that use music therapy as a means to help our veterans and wounded warriors, while providing grants to help them ease back into life.  For more details on the book or for more information on ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy of Country Music, please visit www.ACMcountry.com or www.ACMLiftingLives.org.
