Jackson Browne
Friday, July 13 at 8 p.m.
One of popular music’s greatest legends.
Through his five-decade career, Jackson Browne has written and performed many of popular music’s most cherished hits, just a few including “The Pretender,” “Running On Empty,” “Somebody’s Baby” and “Doctor My Eyes.” An inductee of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Browne is credited with defining a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics.

With several Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum albums to his name, Browne will take the stage with his bandmates of many years, including acclaimed musicians on bass, drums, guitar, keyboard and vocals. Audiences won’t forget this once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience Browne’s infectious hits live.

Dave Koz Summer Horns Featuring Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot and Introducing Aubrey Logan
Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
“A musician of unflappable rhythmic aplomb.” – The New York Times
Returning to The Smith Center by popular demand, nine-time Grammy nominee Dave Koz performs his electrifying jazz-saxophone stylings with a powerhouse lineup of brass masters, including Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot and Aubrey Logan. Following Koz’s first two highly successful Summer Horns Tours, this year’s tour showcases the same high-energy delivery of swinging hits, including songs from the hotly anticipated new album, “Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns.” The first “Summer Horns” release debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.

Saxophonist Albright is acclaimed for his solo recordings and performances with legends such as Anita Baker, Whitney Houston and The Temptations. Braun, a chart-topping trumpeter, has collaborated with leading artists including Rod Stewart, Sade and REO Speedwagon. Elliot, also on saxophone, has forged a successful solo career since first starting out with the renowned horn-driven R&B band Tower of Power.

Logan, a wildly talented pop and jazz singer and trombone soloist, captivates audiences with her wild talent and fresh originality. She has quickly made a name for herself as a featured artist with musical sensation Postmodern Jukebox, as her music videos with the group have accrued millions of views online.

The show also features guitarist Adam Hawley, named both Smooth Jazz News and JazzTrax Debut Artist of the Year. Hawley has performed and recorded with the likes of Natalie Cole, Jennifer Lopez and The Backstreet Boys.

Showcasing new songs from the forthcoming “Summer Horns” album, plus hits from these versatile artists’ own catalogues, this will be among the summer’s hottest shows.

SCHOOL OF ROCK

SCHOOL OF ROCK is a New York Times Critics’ Pick and “AN INSPIRING JOLT OF ENERGY, JOY AND MAD SKILLZ!” (Entertainment Weekly). Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage. Vanity Fair raves, “FISTS OF ALL AGES SHALL BE PUMPING!”

Zeppelin USA – An American Tribute to Led Zeppelin
Friday, August 17
Zeppelin USA, fronted by Vegas veteran Brody Dolyniuk returns to Reynolds Hall with their sonically accurate, visually exciting tribute to the greatest rock band of all time, Led Zeppelin. The 2-hour show will include hits like Black Dog, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven, with fully synchronized lighting, video and lasers. A must see for any Led Zeppelin fan….

ON YOUR FEET!
Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Sunday, Sept. 9
From their humble beginnings in Cuba, Emilio and Gloria Estefan came to America and
broke through all barriers to become a crossover sensation at the very top of the pop music
world. But just when they thought they had it all, they almost lost everything.

ON YOUR FEET! takes you behind the music and inside the real story of this record-making and groundbreaking couple who, in the face of adversity, found a way to end up on their feet.

Directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography
by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and an original book by Academy
Award® winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), ON YOUR FEET! features some of the most
iconic songs of the past quarter-century — and one of the most inspiring stories in music
history.

Kenny G
Saturday, Sept. 29
One of the most iconic and best-selling instrumental musicians of all time.
With a prolific career spanning three decades and 23 albums, Grammy and American Music Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G has sold over 75 million records worldwide with his signature fusion of R&B, pop and Latin with a jazz foundation. As the premier artist in contemporary jazz, the multi-platinum artist has enchanted audiences across the globe with his chart-topping melodies like “Songbird,” “Silhouette” and “The Moment.” Kenny G has collaborated with pop music greats like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra, and his concerts remain wildly popular today.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Inquisitive minds of all ages won’t want to miss this rare chance to hear world-renowned astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, author of 10 bestselling books, host of FOX’s hit docuseries “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” and consummate expert on the cosmos. Tyson will give a riveting, multi-media presentation for the whole family that brings the expanses of modern science direct to audience members.

Also director of the Hayden Planetarium, Tyson previously hosted PBS-NOVA series “NOVA ScienceNOW” for five seasons, which provided an accessible look at the scientific frontier that shapes our understanding of the universe.

He has also given interviews with myriad national television shows, including “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Today Show” and “The Daily Show,” and has even guest starred on hit CBS show “The Big Bang Theory.”

The recipient of 18 honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, Tyson was appointed by NASA to serve on its prestigious Advisory Council to help guide the agency’s ongoing ambitious vision. He has also been appointed to federal commissions to study the U.S. aerospace industry and the implementation of new U.S. space exploration policy.

Recap/Photos: School of Rock Green Valley Grand Opening Weekend

School of Rock Green Valley

SCHOOL OF ROCK GREEN VALLEY CELEBRATES
GRAND OPENING IN THE HEART OF HENDERSON

Now Enrolling New Students for Performance-Based Music Programs

School of Rock Green Valley

School of Rock Green Valley, Nevada’s second School of Rock location at 55 S. Valle Verde Dr. #470, celebrated its Grand Opening Weekend with a VIP Night on Jan. 23 and a Community Day on Jan. 24. The area’s leading performance-based music education program, School of Rock has already enrolled hundreds of local youth and will continue to profoundly impact the lives of young people throughout the Valley for years to come.

The VIP Night included a hosted bar and small bites, stripped down musical performances from star students, tours of the school, meet & greets with the staff, a ribbon cutting, ceremonial “smashing of the guitar” and more. The following afternoon’s Community Day featured a similar open-house style setup, plus a rock ‘n roll styling station, full-band performances from current students and complimentary trial lessons. Dozens of new students and their families came by the Grand Opening Weekend, most of whom booked trial lessons or enrolled in one of the school’s numerous groundbreaking music programs.

School of Rock is an ingenious concept that gets kids and adults rocking out to classic and modern day hits while performing on stage with peers. Music programs are designed to create a supportive environment where music students of all skill levels are comfortable yet challenged at every turn. In addition to individual private music instruction on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums, students also contextualize what they learn through weekly jam sessions with other students. The team dynamic spawns a motivating and personally fulfilling setting where kids feel inspired to excel.

In addition to offering lessons and full band rehearsals, School of Rock differs from traditional music education by giving its students honest insight into the music industry. All staff are performing musicians, many of whom have toured the United States and abroad, offering invaluable knowledge about what a career and life in the music business can look like. Moreover, celebrity speakers often stop by the school to give the students an up-close and inspirational vantage point, helping guide their musical growth and fielding questions students have about the industry.

School of Rock Green ValleySchool of Rock Green Valley1
Overseeing the area’s schools is Regional Director Teddi Tarnoff. Tarnoff was one of the original 20 School of Rock students at the first school in Philadelphia. Years later, after more than 150 other schools have opened up around the world, she has remained an integral part of the mission and moved to Las Vegas two years ago to help School of Rock flourish throughout Southern Nevada. She is a daily source of motivation for the hundreds of students School of Rock serves in the Valley. In addition to operating the schools, Tarnoff spearheads three annual Mid-Season Scholarship Fundraiser concerts which provides local youth with access to quality music education, plans dozens of other performing opportunities each year, roots the students in the community so they can “rock on stage and in life,” hires and manages all staff, coordinates marketing efforts and more. School of Rock Las Vegas West, which opened in 2011, is among the top 10 best performing School of Rock locations in the world. Tarnoff hopes to echo that success with the opening of School of Rock Green Valley.

Students who enroll before the end of January will receive 30% off their first month of tuition. As always, School of Rock offers a complimentary 30-minute trial lesson to anyone who is interested in taking advantage of the school’s unique programming.

School of Rock Green Valley
is open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hours expected to expand as student enrollments, lessons and rehearsals continue to grow. ABOUT SCHOOL OF ROCK
School of Rock has been teaching kids to rock on stage and in life for more than 15 years. Taking students from the lesson room to the stage, School of Rock believes the best way to learn music is to perform in a rock band. In addition to rehearsals and performances, students at School of Rock experience one-on-one coaching, specialized workshops from staff and celebrity guests, and gain invaluable knowledge about working in the music industry. School of Rock develops confidence and musicianship with programs designed for all skill levels. Today, School of Rock operates 140 schools in eight countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexio, Panama, Chile, Brazil, Australia and the Philippines.  School of Rock, the leader in performance-based music education inspiring the world to rock on stage and in life, is now operating a second location in Nevada: School of Rock Green Valley at 55 S. Valle Verde Dr. #470 in the heart of Henderson.

Arriving just in time to help you give the most exciting gift any young person could get for the holidays, School of Rock Green Valley is currently enrolling students for its one-of-a-kind performance-based rock music programs. An ingenious concept that helps kids (and adults!) efficiently and passionately learn music – and the business of music – School of Rock Green Valley provides its students with opportunities to rock out to classic and contemporary jams in private lessons, group band rehearsals and on stage with peers in front of sold-out audiences. Students have the ability to become fluent on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums via their one-on-one sessions and then contextualize what they learned through the group rehearsals and performances. The team dynamic creates a supportive and motivating environment where students feel inspired to excel – a refreshing and rare departure from traditional music education.

School of Rock programs emphasize the message that music is not just about playing an instrument; it’s about teamwork, building confidence and creating leaders. The unique structure is largely focsed on youth ages 7-18 and includes “Rock 101,” which teaches basic skills to beginners as well as “Performance Program,” the second stage and heart and soul of School of Rock. After about 12 weeks of one-on-one lessons and structured group rehearsals, students transform into rock stars in a blowout concert in front of a real live audience. For even younger students, School of Rock Green Valley offers an enriching pre-school program called “Little Wing,” designed to introduce toddlers to the joys of music. Adult programs also exist, which cater to those over the age of 18. School of Rock Green Valley will also offer 5-10 day intensive summer, spring break and winter camps, which involve rehearsals and a grand finale show. These intensive camps are guaranteed to transform beginners into full-blown rock performers.

School of Rock Green Valley will also host a “Guest Performer Series,” where students have the opportunity to learn from and jam with some of music’s most iconic names. Previous visitors have included Jon Anderson, lead vocalist from the legendard rock band Yes, Earl Slick, David Bowie’s guitarist, seminal post-punk bass player Mike Watt, Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics and many others. With the amount of top-notch acts who tour through Las Vegas and have an affinity for School of Rock’s mission, School of Rock Green Valley is expecting a hefty list of renowned rock performers to visit the school.

Teddi Tarnoff,
the Regional Director for School of Rock in Las Vegas and Henderson, is in spearheading operations at School of Rock Green Valley and has been working on the project for nearly two years. More impressive yet, the 29-year-old singer/songwriter has been with the company since its inception in 1998. As one of the original 20 students at the first School of Rock location in Philadelphia, Tarnoff is a masterful musician who moved to Southern Nevada two years ago specifically to lead the Valley’s School of Rock endeavors. And lead she did. After the opening of School of Rock Las Vegas West located at 9340 W. Flamingo Rd. #117, the school quickly ascended to the top 10 best performing schools in the entire School of Rock system (there are currently 150 schools worldwide). Witnessing firsthand how ardently Southern Nevada responded to School of Rock Las Vegas West, Tarnoff knew right away there was a need for School of Rock Green Valley.

“School of Rock is the perfect way to unleash talent and confidence in young musicians while giving them a taste of what a professional music career is like. As a performing musician, I appreciate the valuable lessons music performance can bring to many aspects of your life,” said Tarnoff. “For the past 11 years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to play a role in building kids’ musical skills and aspirations through School of Rock. It’s been such a rewarding experience and I can’t wait to watch new students excel and thrive in our programs, and then subsequently succeed with the tools we provide them for the rest of their lives.”

At age 14, Tarnoff was one of the first School of Rock students. By 16, she was teaching vocals, directing shows and running the AllStar program (a nationwide touring opportunity for any School of Rock student). She also attended Temple University for Jazz Vocal Performance. As a touring musician, Tarnoff has had the opportunity to perform both in the U.S. and abroad with countless rock legends and also served as the lead singer and guitarist for two all-female tribute bands. Currently, she performs original music under her own name as well as with her band, The Northern Lights. With plans to open two additional locations in the Valley due to high demand for School of Rock’s unmatched training and performance opportunities, the young entrepreneur looks forward to spreading rock ‘n roll throughout the region and growing the musical community she has built in Nevada.

Stay tuned for School of Rock Green Valley’s Grand Opening Celebration, taking place on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2105. Leading up to its grand opening event, School of Rock Green Valley will be hosting an Open House every Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. where community members will have the chance to tour the new school, meet the expert staff and sign up for complimentary trial lessons. While everyone is encouraged to stop in at any point during operating hours, the Open House dates include: Dec. 16, 20, 27, 30 and Jan. 3, 6, 10, 13, 17 and 20.

Mötley Crüe continued its Mötley Crüe Invites you to an Intimate Evening in Hell residency inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Friday, Sept. 27 – Sunday, Sept. 29. The band brings back scorching pyrotechnics and a list of hits this week for its final run of shows on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 4 – Sunday Oct. 6.

On Friday, rocker Tommy Lee and DJ Aero hit the stage at Body English Nightclub & Afterhours for their dynamic, live DJ set. The duo spun a mix of electric and house music as partygoers danced into the early morning hours. Black Boots and DJ Pizzo also provided a soundtrack for the night’s party.

Street Drum Corps returned to Vinyl on Saturday to continue its Lost Vegas residency. The group started the evening off with its signature, nightly parade through the center of Hard Rock Hotel. The spectacle included a drum line and a cast of stilt walkers. Opening for the band were students from the local music program School of Rock and electronic pop act Electric Valentine. Following, the percussion enthusiasts took over the venue with their high-energy beats and were joined on stage by special guests Lee and Shannon Larkin of Godsmack. Fans went wild as the award-winning drummers concluded the night with another of its iconic, energetic parades through the casino floor.

Lee was back on Sunday when he was accompanied by DJ Aero on the poolside stage at REHAB. The Electro Mayhem pair turned up the noise as patrons celebrated at Las Vegas’ original dayclub. Resident DJs Richard Beynon, DJ Shift and DJ Wellman were also there spinning today’s best hits.

The Avril Lavigne Foundation Awards Easter Seals Nevada
With Noteworthy $10,000 Grant

Easter Seals teams up with School of Rock to provide year-long music series for youth with disabilities

Easter Seals Nevada, the nonprofit that serves more than 8,000 Nevadans with disabilities every year, was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from The Avril Lavigne Foundation to fund the Avril Lavigne Rockstar Club at Easter Seals, a series of recreational and musical programs for youth with disabilities. Easter Seals has teamed up with School of Rock, the local chapter of the music school inspiring kids to rock on stage and in life, to execute the new year-long programming.

“Every dollar counts at Easter Seals and we are so excited to share music with our youth through the Avril Lavigne Foundation grant,” said Brian Patchett, President and CEO of Easter Seals Nevada. “This programming gives kids with disabilities the chance to not only play musical instruments and learn the fundamentals, but express themselves through music.”

Through this new program at School of Rock, Easter Seals is helping youth with disabilities develop creatively by expressing themselves through music in a social and team-building environment. With an emphasis on song interpretation, rhythm, live singing, playing with a band and perfecting “rock star” poses, participants are encouraged to embrace their inner rock star while exploring and experiencing music through drums, keyboard, tambourines, egg shakers, microphones and more.

Groups of Easter Seals clients ages 10-18 are teamed up with house band members from School of Rock for a full integration experience. The programming focuses on a different musical artist each month, ranging from the classic Rock n’ Roll beats of Elvis and the King of Pop Michael Jackson to the hard rock sounds of AC/DC and the Pop Punk hits from Avril Lavigne.

Easter Seals Nevada strives to create solutions that help people with disabilities become self-sufficient through education, community partnerships and direct services.
