YES BRINGS OLD SOUNDS, NEW FACES IN A ROUSING NIGHT AT
DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS EVENTS CENTER, AUGUST 27

Progressive rock legends, YES, took over Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) on Saturday, August 27. The memorable evening unfolded as the group performed a number of renowned hits from their colorful musical past.

With 48 years to their name, this classic group is no stranger to putting on a good show. Combining a seminal blend of progressive, art and symphonic rock music, YES started the evening with an energetic opening of their cherished hit “Machine Messiah,” followed by “Into the Lens” and “I’ve Seen All Good People.” Several of the recent YES tours have featured renditions of two or three vintage albums. The present tour focuses on 1973’s sprawling, double-LP, 4-song, “Tales from Topographic Oceans” and 1980’s “Drama.”

The Grammy Award-winning band has seen a blend of veteran and new musicians throughout the years. Founded in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late Chris Squire, they were joined by Steve Howe, now the band’s last-standing early member. YES has sold nearly 40 million albums, with iconic songs such as “Roundabout,” “Starship Trooper” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” The band now consists of Howe (guitar), Jon Davison (vocals), Alan White (drums), Billy Sherwood (bass) and Geoff Downes (keyboards).

Finishing their Las Vegas performance with sonics and style, the London-based band delighted fans with a medley of their greatest hits, including fan favorites like “Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper.”

YES’ last set of new material, “Heaven & Earth,” came out in 2014. They have released 21 albums over the years, 14 of which have ended as metallic milestones by reaching gold or platinum status.

“We are proud to present the American public with forward-looking albums from the past,” says guitarist Steve Howe. “Promoting Drama at Madison Square Garden on multi-nights was a career milestone in 1980 and we are especially looking forward to performing both the opening and closing sides to ‘Topographic Oceans.’”

The band’s tenth studio album Drama marked a new sound and more aggressive direction for YES in 1980 with the use of modern keyboards and a vocoder. NOW OPEN: School of Rock Green Valley Enrolling Students for Performance-Based Music Education Programs; Open Houses & Complimentary Trial Lessons Underway

School of Rock Green Valley

***NOW OPEN***NOW OPEN***NOW OPEN***

SCHOOL OF ROCK GREEN VALLEY NOW ENROLLING STUDENTS
FOR PERFORMANCE-BASED MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Open Houses and Complimentary Trial Lessons Currently Underway

School of Rock, the leader in performance-based music education inspiring the world to rock on stage and in life, is now operating a second location in Nevada: School of Rock Green Valley at 55 S. Valle Verde Dr. #470 in the heart of Henderson.

Arriving just in time to help you give the most exciting gift any young person could get for the holidays, School of Rock Green Valley is currently enrolling students for its one-of-a-kind performance-based rock music programs. An ingenious concept that helps kids (and adults!) efficiently and passionately learn music – and the business of music – School of Rock Green Valley provides its students with opportunities to rock out to classic and contemporary jams in private lessons, group band rehearsals and on stage with peers in front of sold-out audiences. Students have the ability to become fluent on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums via their one-on-one sessions and then contextualize what they learned through the group rehearsals and performances. The team dynamic creates a supportive and motivating environment where students feel inspired to excel – a refreshing and rare departure from traditional music education.

School of Rock programs emphasize the message that music is not just about playing an instrument; it’s about teamwork, building confidence and creating leaders. The unique structure is largely focsed on youth ages 7-18 and includes “Rock 101,” which teaches basic skills to beginners as well as “Performance Program,” the second stage and heart and soul of School of Rock. After about 12 weeks of one-on-one lessons and structured group rehearsals, students transform into rock stars in a blowout concert in front of a real live audience. For even younger students, School of Rock Green Valley offers an enriching pre-school program called “Little Wing,” designed to introduce toddlers to the joys of music. Adult programs also exist, which cater to those over the age of 18. School of Rock Green Valley will also offer 5-10 day intensive summer, spring break and winter camps, which involve rehearsals and a grand finale show. These intensive camps are guaranteed to transform beginners into full-blown rock performers.

School of Rock Green Valley will also host a “Guest Performer Series,” where students have the opportunity to learn from and jam with some of music’s most iconic names. Previous visitors have included Jon Anderson, lead vocalist from the legendard rock band Yes, Earl Slick, David Bowie’s guitarist, seminal post-punk bass player Mike Watt, Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics and many others. With the amount of top-notch acts who tour through Las Vegas and have an affinity for School of Rock’s mission, School of Rock Green Valley is expecting a hefty list of renowned rock performers to visit the school.

Teddi Tarnoff,
the Regional Director for School of Rock in Las Vegas and Henderson, is in spearheading operations at School of Rock Green Valley and has been working on the project for nearly two years. More impressive yet, the 29-year-old singer/songwriter has been with the company since its inception in 1998. As one of the original 20 students at the first School of Rock location in Philadelphia, Tarnoff is a masterful musician who moved to Southern Nevada two years ago specifically to lead the Valley’s School of Rock endeavors. And lead she did. After the opening of School of Rock Las Vegas West located at 9340 W. Flamingo Rd. #117, the school quickly ascended to the top 10 best performing schools in the entire School of Rock system (there are currently 150 schools worldwide). Witnessing firsthand how ardently Southern Nevada responded to School of Rock Las Vegas West, Tarnoff knew right away there was a need for School of Rock Green Valley.

“School of Rock is the perfect way to unleash talent and confidence in young musicians while giving them a taste of what a professional music career is like. As a performing musician, I appreciate the valuable lessons music performance can bring to many aspects of your life,” said Tarnoff. “For the past 11 years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to play a role in building kids’ musical skills and aspirations through School of Rock. It’s been such a rewarding experience and I can’t wait to watch new students excel and thrive in our programs, and then subsequently succeed with the tools we provide them for the rest of their lives.”

At age 14, Tarnoff was one of the first School of Rock students. By 16, she was teaching vocals, directing shows and running the AllStar program (a nationwide touring opportunity for any School of Rock student). She also attended Temple University for Jazz Vocal Performance. As a touring musician, Tarnoff has had the opportunity to perform both in the U.S. and abroad with countless rock legends and also served as the lead singer and guitarist for two all-female tribute bands. Currently, she performs original music under her own name as well as with her band, The Northern Lights. With plans to open two additional locations in the Valley due to high demand for School of Rock’s unmatched training and performance opportunities, the young entrepreneur looks forward to spreading rock ‘n roll throughout the region and growing the musical community she has built in Nevada.

Stay tuned for School of Rock Green Valley’s Grand Opening Celebration, taking place on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2105. Leading up to its grand opening event, School of Rock Green Valley will be hosting an Open House every Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. where community members will have the chance to tour the new school, meet the expert staff and sign up for complimentary trial lessons. While everyone is encouraged to stop in at any point during operating hours, the Open House dates include: Dec. 16, 20, 27, 30 and Jan. 3, 6, 10, 13, 17 and 20.

School of Rock Green Valley is open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hours expected to expand as lessons and rehearsals continue to grow. For mor information on the school, please e-mail Tarnoff at ttarnoff@schoolofrock.com or visit http://greenvalley.schoolofrock.com. To schedule a trial lesson, please call 702.778.1400.

For information on the Valley’s first location, School of Rock Las Vegas West, please visit http://lasvegaswest.schoolofrock.com or call 702.778.9382.

About School of Rock
School of Rock has been teaching kids to rock on stage and in life for more than 15 years. Taking students from the lesson room to the stage, School of Rock believes the best way to learn music is to perform in a rock band. In addition to rehearsals and performances, students at School of Rock experience one-on-one coaching, specialized workshops from staff and celebrity guests, and gain invaluable knowledge about working in the music industry. School of Rock develops confidence and musicianship with programs designed for all skill levels. Today, School of Rock operates 140 schools in eight countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Panama, Chile, Brazil, Australia and the Philippines. Las Vegas is now home to two School of Rock locations: School of Rock Las Vegas West (930 W. Flamingo Rd. #117, which opened in the fall of 2011) and the new School of Rock Green Valley (55 S. Valley Verde Dr., opening this month). For more information about School of Rock, please visit www.schoolofrock.com.
