Original Teenage Idol Bobby Rydell Returns to the Suncoast Showroom Oct. 17-18

Bobby Rydell, all-American boy of the Baby Boom era, will perform his rock ‘n’ roll hits at the Suncoast Showroom Oct. 17 and 18.

With good looks, fame and talent, Robert Ridarelli – better known as Bobby Rydell – is considered an original American idol. Rydell launched his successful solo act in 1959 after a teenage gig as drummer for Rocco and the Saints, where he played with trumpet player Frankie Avalon. The hits flowed as Rydell rocked up the charts with “We Got Love,” “Kissin’ Time,” “Wild One,” “That Old Black Magic,” “I’ll Never Dance Again” and “Forget Him,” among others. Rydell recorded 34 Top 40 hits, and is recognized by Billboard as one of the “Top Five Artists” of the early 1960s.

Aside from selling millions of records, Rydell enjoyed fame as a regular on 1960s television, appearing on “American Bandstand,” “The Red Skelton Show” and “The Milton Berle Show.” In 1963, Rydell was also featured in the classic film “Bye Bye Birdie” as Ann-Margret’s boyfriend, Hugo Peabody.

Rydell began performing at a young age in Philadelphia doing impressions as a kindergartener. His interest in music developed thanks to the city’s big band hotspots, which he attended with his father. A storybook career followed, and Rydell is now celebrated for his profound influence on popular music. His impact on the era is evidenced in the hit movie “Grease,” where the producers chose Rydell High as the name of the school where the action takes place—a tribute to Rydell and the era in which the popular music was set.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are available from $29.95, plus tax and fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office, by calling 702.284.7777, or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.

R&B Crooner Bobby Brooks Wilson Performs at the Suncoast Showroom on May 1 and 3

suncoast

R&B Crooner Bobby Brooks Wilson Performs at the Suncoast Showroom on May 1 and 3

R&B and soul singer Bobby Brooks Wilson will entertain the audience at the Suncoast Showroom on May 1 and 3.

Wilson first made waves in the entertainment community for his remarkable impression of legendary Jackie Wilson – later to find out that the man he emulated onstage was actually his father. Wilson got his start in a talent show performing the James Ingram classic, “Just Once,” and became a regular at karaoke bars. After an impressive performance of the Motown classic “My Girl,” Peter Hernandez of Peter and the Love Notes approached Wilson and invited him to perform with the Hernandez family, including Hernandez’s son, pop icon Bruno Mars.

During a Hernandez family performance, 1960’s rocker Paul Revere of Paul Revere and the Raiders recognized Wilson’s talents and likeness as similar to those of Jackie Wilson, and later recommended him to perform as Jackie Wilson in an impersonator show in Las Vegas.

As his profile for impersonation grew, more and more industry professionals recognized him as a dead ringer for Jackie Wilson, down to his signature laugh; a blood test later confirmed they were father and son.

Today, Wilson performs impressions besides Wilson, including Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder and Little Richard. His album “It’s About Time” was released in 2012 and includes soulful covers of Jackie Wilson’s “I Get the Sweetest Feeling” and Otis Redding’s “I’ve been Loving You Too Long,” among others.

Showtime each evening is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from $15.95, plus tax and fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office by calling 702-284-7777, or by visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.

Piano Men: A Tribute to Sir Elton John & Billy Joel Returns to the Suncoast Showroom January 31

Piano Men, a high-energy tribute to Sir Elton John and Billy Joel, returns to the Suncoast Showroom on January 31.

The Piano Men tribute offers a night of songs, energetic performances, outrageous costumes and true rock and roll. Sir Elton John and Billy Joel tribute artists – Jeffery Allen and Matthew Banks – respectfully capture the prowess of the legendary musicians during their interactive show.

Just like the original tour, each artist performs a solo set with a backing band. The show culminates with a “Face to Face” set, featuring the tribute artists on stage together with two pianos trading off lyrics on each song they perform. The show captures the performers’ piano skills and outrageous costumes dating from the ‘70s to today.

Showtime each evening is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from $15.95, plus tax and fees. Tickets can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office, by calling 702.636.7075, or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
