Piff the Magic Dragon Unveils His Shrunken Head at
The Golden Tiki

The loser of “America’s Got Talent,” Piff the Magic Dragon, unveiled his shrunken head last night at The Golden Tiki. His sidekick, Mr. Piffles, got in on the action too with a miniature stuffed version.

Piff enjoyed a Dole Whip while checking out the bar’s one-of-a-kind decor and Cabinet of Curiosities, stopping for a closer look at a mummified alligator, perhaps one of Piff’s ancestors.

The Baron of the Universe welcomed Piff, Mr. Piffles, and showgirl Jade Simone before Managing Partner Branden Powers unveiled the head. Smithsonian artist Terry Barr sculpted the head over the course of four weeks, referencing photos of Piff to ensure physical accuracies, including his dragon scales.

“Thank you for honoring us with a tiny, shrunken head, AKA a lifesize head,” said Piff.

The stars took a “shellfie” in the clamshell, before posing with fans, who showed up in Piff T-shirts.

Chippendales dancer James Davis was also in attendance.

Overhead in the crowd, “This is as Vegas as it gets.”

Piff joins the bar’s growing collection of famous shrunken heads, including Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach, Norm Clarke, Claire Sinclair, magician Murray Sawchuck, Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie, Monti Rock III, Lonnie Hammargren, and Rich Little.

Eagles of Death Metal Visit Evel Pie and The Golden Tiki

The American rock band Eagles of Death Metal visited Evel Pie and The Golden Tiki before and after their Evel Pie appearance in downtown Las Vegas last night.

To kick off the night, the band held a pre-show pizza party for fans and friends at Evel Pie, downtown Las Vegas’ Evel Knievel-themed pizzeria. Lead singer Jesse Hughes was joined by guitarists Dave Catching and Eden Galindo, bassist Jennie Vee and drummer Jorma Vik. The group dined on Evel Pie’s Hog Heaven pizza and the shop’s award-winning gluten-free pizza topped with mushrooms in between talking and signing autographs for fans. Hughes even jumped into the kitchen to help the staff shout out pizza orders and took the trash out before leaving for his show.

After their Mint 400 performance, the band continued the party into the early hours of Friday morning at The Golden Tiki in Chinatown. Hughes guest DJ’d alongside DJ After School Special spinning classic tunes, including “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago, “Never Been Any Reason” by Head East, “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow and “Shake Your Booty” by KC and The Sunshine Band. During the set, fans danced along to the music while the rest of the band enjoyed a variety of The Golden Tiki’s cocktails in a private booth.

“Music is such a large part of what makes Evel Pie and The Golden Tiki what they are, and the Eagles of Death Metal fit right in to both environments,” said Branden Powers, managing partner of Evel Pie and The Golden Tiki. “It was great hosting them tonight and giving them a space to celebrate their success with fans and friends.”

Celebrate the Godfather of Tiki at The Golden TIki on 2/22

The Golden Tiki Celebrates Tiki Legend Don The Beachcomber’s Birthday!

The Golden Tiki, Las Vegas’ world-famous premier tiki bar, has announced a special celebration for Don The Beachcomber’s birthday. On Thursday, Feb. 22 from 9 p.m. to midnight, The Golden Tiki will host a tribute to the founder of tiki cocktail culture with several of Las Vegas’ preeminent bartenders, a special performance by house band The Sharps, and more revelry. Guests are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian shirts and tiki wear. Admission is free.

“It’s pretty simple, there really wouldn’t be any tiki bars without Donn Beach,” said Branden Powers, managing partner of The Golden Tiki. “So why wouldn’t we throw him a birthday party? Every tiki bar should do it!”

Bartenders will be offering their original takes on Donn Beach classic cocktails for a special price during the event. Confirmed to participate are Rebecca Hayden (Fleur), Wendy Hodges (Fusion Bar), Adam Rains (Flock & Fowl), Jessica Lee Westergom (The Black Sheep), with others expected.

Earnest Gantt (later Donn Beach) serving at the original Hollywood Don The Beachcomber’s.

Born Feb. 22, 1907, Earnest Raymond Beaumont Gantt would be 111 if alive today. A Texas native, Gantt traveled the Caribbean and South Pacific, briefly working as a bootlegger, before opening the original Don’s Beachcomber in Hollywood in 1933. He is credited with creating cocktails including the Zombie, Tahitian Rum Punch, one version of the Mai Tai, and the Navy Grog (ironically, Gantt was a Major in the Air Force) among many others. Eventually, he would legally change his name to Donn Beach; create the Polynesian Villages and original International Marketplace in Waikiki; be instrumental in the careers of Martin Denny, Alfred Apaka, and Arthur Lyman; and see a string of Don The Beachcomber bars and restaurants open across the United States (although he did not retain ownership). He said his final ‘aloha’ in 1989.

The Golden Tiki Hosts “Charlie Brown” Thanksgiving for Thanksgiving ‘Orphans’

The Golden Tiki Celebrates Thanksgiving ‘Orphans’ With “Charlie Brown” Thanksgiving Celebration

The Golden Tiki, Las Vegas’ world-famous premier tiki bar, has announced the return of its “Charlie Brown” Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m. Mindful of Las Vegas’ many “Thanksgiving orphans” (hospitality workers unable to celebrate the holiday with their families), The Golden Tiki brought to life this irreverent celebration centering around a recreation of the 1973 Emmy-winning TV special’s holiday feast.

Just as Snoopy did, The Golden Tiki will be setting a ping pong table with buttered toast, popcorn, pretzel sticks and jelly beans served on frisbee plates. To enhance the spirit, the bar’s favorite jazz combo The Sharps will be performing a selection of numbers from the Peanuts films made famous by Vince Guaraldi.  The Golden Tiki’s menu of handcrafted tiki cocktails, sipping rums, craft beers and Dole Whip will also be available. Admission is free, and anyone dressed in Historic Pilgrim or Native American garb will enjoy free tiki punch.
